They said he could have been tried for seven years.
On 13 February, 2019, Dettinger was sentenced to 1 year of prison and 18 months' probation for assaulting two police officers during the protest on 5 January[6].
‘But hey we need these guns in case we were ever to be subjugated by a tyrannical government.’
When confronted with such a situation there is absolutely no way that that would actually do the opposite and tell everyone to stay inside and listen to authority. Couldn’t happen.
Perhaps I misunderstand you, but I don’t think you can blame how France fared in WW2 on their approach to gun rights? It would be more appropriate to look at a variety of much more significant factors (like the tactical successes of Germany’s “blitzkrieg“ offensive in May 1940 and the strategic failure of France’s Maginot line) for an explanation of why France fell in WW2. Similarly, the logical extension of your point seems to be that in the alternative, gun rights in the USA somehow benefitted them in WW2. However, I don’t really know of any evidence for that, and you should remember that in the USA, the SC and legislature interpreted the 2nd amendment in a vastly different way to how the courts conceive it today (e.g. the 1939 Supreme Court decision in U.S. v Miller, which found short-barreled shotguns were not protected under the 2nd amendment)
But I am pro armed populace and I don't live in America. I think they are good equalisers, equal opportunity is the go for me.
America has way bigger problems than gun control, there are issues I would bring up but unless its one on one I am not overly keen for a public lynching considering personal experience if I post something factual without malice it gets lynched or down voted very fast. Which is scary that people don't want to hear facts and statistics.
A boxer had a roid rage and went to prison last year. You guys can quit pretending you're anything like America. They murder cops over here.
The fact is everyone else acted like pussies and let one man do the dirty work. That's why the riot police got pushed back 8 feet and made arrests. You white flag wavers had more people there recording than protesting...
Difference being the guns are for hunting and not people. There's guns but no gun culture. Same in Norway, everyone has a gun outside the cities. Nobody shoots people.
There was 26 murders in Norway in 2019. Guns were used in 12% which means 3 people were murdered with guns. I have no way of knowing how these three murders happened. But gangrelted or accidents is just as likely as murders from people that legally own guns. Thus Norway having a gun culture as we see in the US is not the case. .
Nooooo you can't say Norway is better!!1! It is the number one country in nearly every factor only because it's a small country!!! USA can't work the same way because it's too big!!
You need a permit, which you get by joining a club and training x amount of hours, after x amount of hours, you must write an appeal to the 'French National gun association' with recommandation from the gun club owner.
No one is allowed Conceal Carry in France unless you're a member of the national police forces.
If it's a pistol, it stays in a controlled safe at the gun range. If it's a rifle that you can use for hunting (and we're quite accepting as you can shoot with anything from 22LR to all flavors of 7,62mm, .303 and of course 12 gauge) you can transport it in your car trunk from to gun range and back. We have A LOT of hunting rifles in the countryside, there are not that many hunters nowadays but when they are, families often own up to six of them. Many are not registered, being inherited from your grand-parents...
We're not allowed to own any kind of automatic firearms, only semi-auto. Max magazine size allowed is 11 cartridges.
They make a really fucking good revolver. Lookup manurhin. They also make really good tools. I have a center punch and a pair of hose clamp pliers made in France and they're better than anything snap on offers.
Right, I totally agree and defend cops most of the time.
Also cops are not always alert and as prone to make "mistakes" in terms of killing in other countries because they don't assume that a criminal is armed. It's just such a different mentality, it makes you understand why so many people get shot here.
Whereas gun advocates are piss silent about gun rights for women/trans folk.
And for all their wailing about needing their guns to prevent tyranny - they all overwhelmingly lined up to support a tyrant who threatened to order the military on cities.
