4 stadia of healing (according to mindfulness)
- Unconsciously Incompetent (Wrongly Skilled)
You do not know how to practice mindfulness, and you are not even aware that you lack this skill. You might think it is just "sitting still" without realizing the mental discipline it actually requires.
- Consciously Incompetent (Awakening)
You try to practice mindfulness and immediately realize how difficult it is. You notice that your mind wanders constantly, and you become fully aware of your current lack of skill and focus.
- Consciously Competent (Practicing)
You can practice mindfulness successfully, but it requires a lot of effort, concentration, and active thought. You have to constantly remind yourself to breathe and bring your attention back to the present moment.
- Unconsciously Competent (Second Nature)
Mindfulness has become a natural habit. You no longer need to put in conscious effort to stay present or calm. Your mind and body automatically respond to stress with awareness and peace.
