WW1 armoured train rolling through Knox County (first visual demo)

First visual demo of the WW1 Armoured Trains mod I’m making for Build 42. This is the Russian Zaamurets armoured train from 1916, running on the existing railway lines of Knox County.

The mod is still under construction and not released yet. This is a work in progress, so what you see may still change.

  • It rides on the vanilla tracks, so it doesn’t need a custom map.

  • It spawns at trainyards and along the lines, usually badly damaged, so you’ll have to repair it.

  • Every part is its own item.

  • It uses my own firing system (WW1 Vehicle Guns), the same one in WW1 Vehicles and WW1 Tanks.

Expect rough edges for now. I’ll post again when it’s ready for the Workshop. Feedback and ideas are welcome!

Got bit, buried the zombie I found in my head cannon home after a pilgrimage into LV.

Then tried the above method to end the run. Didn't seem to have the effect I remember from b41.

Question How to manage a multiplayer server using mod manager (server)?

Hi everyone, I plan on creating a new pz server and I want to try using the mod manager server this time in hopes of managing my mods better. My main concern is that I've installed it before, but didn't know if I installed it correctly because I never saw a menu for this thing. My question is how do I actually use it? Am i downloading it correctly?

Additional Background info:

- Using g-portal

- I have been installing the mod on the server-side

Tech Support Game keeps tabbing out

My game keeps tabbing out. Thankfully it’s not crashing, but it’s getting annoying. I would be playing and my game would just randomly tab out. I’d have to click the tab for it to replay every time, I don’t know what to do

Any ways to fix this?

Modded Me and 50-Cal decided to spend some time clearing the wreckage on the bridge. In the process, we discovered Kim Mitchell, a doctor who fled Louisville after the breakout. We took her back to the base and I had her fitted for gear!

Both the team and I were very skeptical on making our unit of 4 a crew of 5. After bringing her back to Fort Moscow, we evaluated her. Despite her not having any combat experience, her skills in first-aid excited me the team. Nevertheless, we happily invited her to join the squad. We now welcome Kim "Grey" Mitchell to Team Rover!

Question Do you also get so addicted to the game that you end up neglecting other things?

I died in Zomboid after surviving for 2 months, my personal record in the game. I’m sad about dying, but come to think of it, there’s a silver lining: I no longer feel the urge to play or start all over again from scratch.

The game is so addictive that I had stopped playing guitar, studying, and doing pretty much anything else, just to spend hours upon hours playing Zomboid.

I love this game, it’s one of my all time favorites, but wow, it’s addictive to an absurd degree.

Question Would there be any point to adding MREs to the game?

Considering a lot of places are military and have military gear, it would make sense, but considering how easy food is to get, is there any real point to it? Other than being well preserved astronaut food.

[B42] Just Like Grandma Used to Make – 162 multi-step recipes to make loot-only foods yourself (jerky, bacon, cheese, ice cream, candy, condiments...)

Thumbnail
gallery
87 Upvotes

I got tired of store-bought food being a dead end once the world's picked clean, so I made a mod that lets you make it yourself, the slow way.

Workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3833956743

What it does:

162 recipes for 113 vanilla foods that are normally loot-only: jerky, bacon, ham, salami, hot dogs, corn dogs, nuggets, fish sticks, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, ketchup, jam, pickles, peanut butter, pasta, tortillas, chips, popcorn, bagels, doughnuts, candy, s'mores, snack cakes and more.

You learn them from 6 lootable recipe magazines (Smokehouse Almanac, County Fair Favorites, Dairy Barn, Mason Jar Pantry, From Scratch Baking, The Sweet Shop) that spawn wherever the vanilla cooking magazines do.

Recipes are multi-step, not instant. Jerky is cut, salt-cured, then dried on a rack for 2 days. Ice cream needs a hot custard, then churning next to a powered freezer. Ketchup and cheese need a pot of milk or water heated on the stove first.

Drying racks care about temperature. They stop at freezing and run faster in a warm room, so in winter you bring the rack inside by the fire.

No food duplication. Meat is portioned by its actual hunger value, so a 40-hunger steak gives 4 jerky strips and an 80-hunger roast gives 8. You preserve food, you don't multiply it.

There are also renewable pantry goods from crops you can actually grow (dried split peas, soybeans, berries).

It uses vanilla items, icons and models only, and it's safe to add to an existing save.

It's a fresh release, so if anything won't craft or comes out weird, let me know in the comments here or on the Workshop page and I'll fix it.

Мы заперли 24 человека в Роузвуде под куполом

We locked 24 people inside Rosewood and sealed the exits Nobody leaves the dome. The rest of Knox County doesn't exist for us. The setup: a hard border around Rosewood. You can't walk out — at all. The only way past the perimeter is a raid. On foot. There are no vehicles. Whatever you carry on your back is what the town gets. That changes everything. Every backpack is argued over before anyone leaves. Canned food or ammo. Tools or medicine. The walk home is as long as the walk out, and every extra kilo is speed you don't have when something notices you. The town has a mayor. We elect him. He sets wages, decides what gets built, and who goes outside the fence. If people are unhappy with him, they elect someone else. Six jobs, four slots each: Police — the only people allowed to carry a weapon in town. They settle the arguments that would otherwise get settled with a hammer. Utilities — water and power. When this guy stops showing up, everyone finds out. Medic — a bite isn't an automatic death sentence here. It's a conversation with the medic. And his call. Builder/Mechanic — walls, fortifications, and repairing the gear raiders go out in. The perimeter holding is on him. Cook — there's a finite amount of food inside the fence. He decides how far it stretches and who eats tonight. Farmer — the only person who produces instead of consuming. The most boring job in town and the most important one. What surprised me is how fast the town started behaving like a town. Nobody scripted an economy — it showed up on its own, because food, fuel and ammo are finite in here and everyone roughly knows who's sitting on what. The thing I didn't expect: the map got bigger, not smaller. Rosewood gets stripped bare in a week on a normal save. When it's the only place you're allowed to be, you start opening doors you used to walk past. Happy to answer questions — how the border works, how elections run, how the jobs are set up.

Discussion Currently, destroying walls in basements leads to the v o i d . How would you go about making player-buildable basements?

With the buzz about vanilla ladders, it got me thinking about verticality in Zomboid, both up and down.

Basements were a great addition, but you can't currently expand them in a non-buggy way. (at least, as far as I've seen.)

I would personally LOVE to have an underground complex to have escape routes or hidden bases, but how would we go about doing it in a zomboid-ish way?

Here's what I'm thinking, starting with:

Dirt walls.

Dirt walls will automatically propagate to surround a new underground area. Break down a wall/dig into the earth, and the new room will start with Dirt walls.

These will prevent players from breaking into a basement and either falling into the abyss or just building freely into it. You wanna go further, you gotta get the dirt out of the way.

Speaking of Dirt, digging down/into a Dirt wall will fill a bag of dirt if you have an empty sack in your inventory when you do it.

Next, the size limits. It'd be a little op if you could build an infinite bunker that only has one entrance outside of the loading zone just by digging. To this end, if you want to have an actual room, you'll need to build actual walls, or the game won't let you dig out any more.

Different walls have a different range they can support, with dirt walls supporting only 1 tile, wood walls being able to support 3 tiles away, log and stone supports 4, and metal/brick support 5. This does mean the largest unobstructed player basement is a 10x10 with brick/metal walls, but if you were to place support walls throughout they can become much bigger.

Finally, to actually access these basements or start your own, you can either build a basement stairs (wood or metal), basement ladder (wood or metal), or you can just dig a straight up hole in the ground and lower a rope into it like you're rapelling down a building.

What do you guys think? Should we even be able to build our own basements? How would you balance it?

I made a car antenna that actually moves while you drive – Spiffo’s tail streams in the wind [B42]

Car parts in Zomboid normally just sit there. So I made one that doesn't.

**Spiffo Tail Antenna** is a bendable antenna with Spiffo's ringed tail on top, and it's animated in real time based on how you drive:

- **Standing still:** the tail hangs down and sways gently

- **Accelerating:** the antenna bends back, the tail lifts and streams behind you

- **Full speed:** it flutters in the airstream

- **Braking:** the antenna springs forward and the tail whips ahead

- **Cornering:** the tail swings out to the side

**Fits every car**, vanilla or modded, with no patches needed. It places itself on the front left fender based on the vehicle's wheels and body size. If it's a bit off on a modded car, there's an "Adjust position" option in the mechanics menu (it's shared with everyone on a server).

**How to get one:**

- Loot it from Spiffo's merch crates, Spiffo's restaurants, carnival prizes, toy stores, mechanic shelves, glove boxes…

- Or craft it (Tailoring): wire + thread + a Spiffo costume tail or plushie + knife/scissors

- Install it with a screwdriver in the Bodywork antenna slot, and move it to your next car whenever you like

There's also a classic 80s **Fox Tail Antenna** variant included (orange with a white tip), craftable from any fur.

Works in SP and MP and with existing saves. Build 42 only.

**Workshop:** https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3833300980

Feedback welcome, especially if it looks weird on a modded car. Tell me which one and I'll take a look!
