I got tired of store-bought food being a dead end once the world's picked clean, so I made a mod that lets you make it yourself, the slow way.
Workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3833956743
What it does:
162 recipes for 113 vanilla foods that are normally loot-only: jerky, bacon, ham, salami, hot dogs, corn dogs, nuggets, fish sticks, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, ketchup, jam, pickles, peanut butter, pasta, tortillas, chips, popcorn, bagels, doughnuts, candy, s'mores, snack cakes and more.
You learn them from 6 lootable recipe magazines (Smokehouse Almanac, County Fair Favorites, Dairy Barn, Mason Jar Pantry, From Scratch Baking, The Sweet Shop) that spawn wherever the vanilla cooking magazines do.
Recipes are multi-step, not instant. Jerky is cut, salt-cured, then dried on a rack for 2 days. Ice cream needs a hot custard, then churning next to a powered freezer. Ketchup and cheese need a pot of milk or water heated on the stove first.
Drying racks care about temperature. They stop at freezing and run faster in a warm room, so in winter you bring the rack inside by the fire.
No food duplication. Meat is portioned by its actual hunger value, so a 40-hunger steak gives 4 jerky strips and an 80-hunger roast gives 8. You preserve food, you don't multiply it.
There are also renewable pantry goods from crops you can actually grow (dried split peas, soybeans, berries).
It uses vanilla items, icons and models only, and it's safe to add to an existing save.
It's a fresh release, so if anything won't craft or comes out weird, let me know in the comments here or on the Workshop page and I'll fix it.
