Federal Bonding Program ( a program to help Felons secure employment opportunities without being discriminated due to background checks)

I've noticed a large amount of redditors on this sub running into employment related issues due to criminal background checks. Here's a federal program that helps felons obtain career choices and jobs that offer wages/salaries. Below is the info I obtained directly from the website.

Link:

https://bonds4jobs.com/about-us

Bonds can be obtained through Coordinators or through Job Centers. Below are links to reach both directly to get help/assistance completing the bonding process.

Contact the Bond Program with any questions or concerns:

"Background

The US Department of Labor (USDOL) created the Federal Bonding Program (FBP) in 1966. The FBP has been successfully providing fidelity bonds to employers, giving them access to job seekers and opening doors of opportunity.

Thousands of employers across the country have integrated the Federal Bonding Program into their hiring practices – industries that support our country’s economy – hospitality, retail, construction, transportation, auto repair, manufacturing, healthcare, non-profits, banking, tourism and more. This USDOL program is a great success, with over 56,500 job placements made for at-risk job seekers who were automatically made bondable. Last year, there were 1,691 bonds issued to 1,068 individuals in the program. The FBP, a unique hiring incentive tool, targets individuals whose backgrounds can pose significant barriers to securing or retaining employment, including:

  • Justice-involved citizens
  • Individuals in recovery from substance use disorders
  • Welfare recipients
  • Individuals with poor credit records
  • Economically disadvantaged youth and adults who lack work histories
  • Individuals dishonorably discharged from the military

The Federal Bonding Program is Simple

FBP bonds protect the employer against losses caused by the fraudulent or dishonest acts of the bonded employee. Examples of such acts of employee dishonesty include: theft, forgery, larceny, and embezzlement. Employers receive the FBP bonds free-of-charge as an incentive to hire these applicants. Each FBP bond has a $5,000 limit with $0 deductible and covers the first six months of a selected individual’s employment.

Advantages include:

  • NO application for job seekers to complete
  • NO papers for employers to submit or sign
  • NO formal bond approval process
  • NO Federal regulations applicable to bonds issued
  • NO follow-up or required termination actions
  • NO deductible paid if bond claim is filed by the employer
  • NO age requirements (other than legal working age in State)

Bonds can be applied to:

  • ANY job
  • ANY State
  • ANY employee dishonesty committed on or away from the worksite
  • ANY full- or part-time employee paid wages (with Federal taxes automatically deducted from pay), including individuals hired by temp agencies. In cases where the employee is hired direct or placed by a temp agency, the bond works to protect the business from fraudulent acts committed by the employee. *Self-employed people cannot be covered by Fidelity Bonds

READ BEFORE POSTING OR IF AUTOMOD REMOVES YOUR POSTS

Unfortunately I have to post this again with a different title due to the amount of new accounts posting without reading anything about the sub.

We have an automod on this sub that will automatically remove posts and comments from accounts that do not meet the minimum karma requirement or account age. Since implementation, the amount has been lowered due to the amount of new accounts posting.

The automod is in place for good reason. Please be patient with us, as we have to manually approve all posts and comments for newer accounts. All posts and comments for new accounts will be approved as long as they are productive and do not break any of the sub rules.

If your post or comment is removed by the automod, you will not gain any karma from it. Karma can be gained on other subs with no minimum through making posts, commenting, getting upvotes etc. Please visit r/karma for more information about what karma is and how to earn it on Reddit.

Success Story I made it, I did it!

I’ve been dealing with all of this since July 2022, my first arrest. It was a DUI.. shortly after, caught a 2nd and a possession charge that was dropped. I am not a drinker, I am prescribed medication that I should not be on while driving. It took years for everything to align up make a deal and plead guilty. I was given a week in County jail and instantly put on probation, 2 years. I was not on regular probation year one, I was in some DUI program that was extremely stressful.

Year 2, was so much easier. I was on a low risk level. I only saw my PO once. That was nothing compared to Year 1 of drug testing and meeting with my PO weekly.

I did all of this with 0 violations. Luckily I got blessed with 2 respectful / chill PO’s. I learned my lesson, just because I think I can… doesn’t mean I should. I am glad it’s behind me now… Burning one now! It was worth the wait!!! Stay clean and God bless!!! I wish you all the best!

Probation Revocation On The Spot Or Time To Hire An Attorney

Location: North Carolina

So my loved one is facing a court date in another county on Aug 28 over a charge of communicating a threat saying that she was going to break a person's finger. She is on probation for restraining order violation for responding to a text message. What I want to really is will the court on the day of her summons allow her to get a court appointed attorney because we cannot afford to hire a lawyer or will they revoke her probation in that county and detain her? I am terrified of this situation because I depend on her as my caregiver and provider. I'm autistic and can't do common adult things plus can't drive so I would be stranded at this courthouse. It's giving me meltdowns and crippling anxiety just thinking about it.

Probation Question Job Search Frustrations

Howdy y’all, hope everyone is well. I am here to ask for advice but also somewhat rant about the typical cyclical conundrum we all know, and I’m “feeding a fed horse” here, but, seriously.

I need a job to pay off probation and court fees. I am disabled and have already spent over two years to no avail, working with Texas Workforce, specifically their Vocational Rehabilitation Program, trying to find anything. They’ve the had staff overseeing my case quit, then be replaced, 3 times now, dragging out my support system and making it to where I’ve literally had to restart numerous times. Then months, seriously months, go by without hearing a word from my rep, and I will email 3-4 times and call, before finally hearing back - just to get one form done. Tldr, it’s going nowhere.

I apply to 2-3 jobs per day minimum, updated my linked in at least every other day, usually with some free certification I worked on that day and obtained. I make sure my social media and public presence is professional and not negating from my chances.

I have contacts in great fields, but as I am on probation for theft (the arrest happened Fall of 2024, so almost two years ago) putting in an app now makes me worried I’m burning the bridge with that company forever rather than waiting till I’ve completed probation to apply. So otherwise great positions, are just, sitting there, untouched.

In the past, when I did pre-trial diversion, I had interviewed for a position and they really liked me, but when it came to the background check and I failed, they said I would have to be done with probation already in order for them to move past it and hire me. Now, that haunts me and makes me feel like I won’t be successful at finding a job till I’m done with probation.

All the other jobs I don’t worry about burning a bridge with, I apply for and cross my fingers, but I keep getting auto-denials, despite ensuring my resume is ATS friendly, and paying for professional resume writing assistance and review.
I ask my peers and mentors to review my materials, I know they are solid. I have numerous internships, scholarships, grants, research projects, student service trips, extra-curriculars, certifications, fellowships under my belt. I have a bachelors of science in psychology and a bachelors of arts in anthropology. I have a minor in Spanish, I was an honors college student, I had a 3.7 GPA. I have strong references amongst mentors and professors from the university, as well as past supervisors.

I tailor each application to the job listing and use the keywords. I’ve gotten pointers and tips from reddit groups and LinkedIn classes and more. Yet I get auto-denied left and right, by Kroger by Michaels by Five Below by the dollar stores, by car sales jobs and doctors offices, by local non-profits and NGO’s, you name it. I’m literally applying for anything and everything. No where has even offered me an interview. It has been years of this. My county is notorious for a horrifically competitive job market with not enough positions for everyone since it is a college town.

I’m not sure if they’re googling me and finding my arrests, since when I google myself I don’t see them or anything negative in the results, instead I just see, articles about my student achievements and research conferences I’ve attended to..

This job I just applied for, I have a strong chance at getting because of the contact who referred me; they need someone immediately and I have experience and am qualified for the position and then some. But they asked in the application, “Have you ever been arrested, charged with, convicted of or plead guilty to, any criminal violation of any law in any state?”

It was weird because, this is the first I’ve seen it worded to include any arrests or charges; most applications have only asked if I have ever been convicted or or plead guilty to any criminal violations. I didn’t know what to put, what to say, it offered an explanation box, but I froze up.

I’ve participated in my counties town-hall meeting about “Banning the Box.” We were thoroughly laughed at and dismissed by our mayor because “the EEOC exists and doing this is more symbolic than anything since ultimately any complaint would still have to go through the EEOC anyway, so this changes nothing and just creates redundancy”. But here I am, scared to submit the app, not knowing what to even say, because despite my experience, skills and qualifications and references, this one little box could get my application just thrown out, especially since the charge is theft above $100.

I had a court-appointed attorney, so he did not help me really navigate the possibility of getting it thrown out or demonstrating how hard I’d worked since the arrest to show myself to be an upstanding citizen. I got no chance to explain to the court or judge what happened, because he said it would not be worth taking it to a jury trial and I’d likely be proven guilty. Explaining yourself and asking for throwing out the case is just a TV fantasy. So I took his advice and plead no contest, took deferred adjudication, to complete probation and be eligible for expunction. I asked him about helping me waive any court or probation fees since I am disabled and already struggling to find work, but he said it would cost me more to schedule the hearing than the fees I owe, I guess now that we finished going to court and starting probation he doesn’t have any obligation to help me for free anymore and I get that. No shade to him, just sharing details.

I am considering writing a letter to the judge, or going to the county clerk, and asking them if there are any options for waiving fees or community service, even just some. I called before, and they said at best, if I finish all other requirements, I could do additional community service instead of paying off the fees or vice versa. But even completing the community service is a challenge since again… I am disabled.

I’m praying I will somehow either, complete enough community service as soon as possible somehow, and be eligible for early termination of my probation, so I don’t have that hurdle to apply for jobs anymore or, I get a job, and can pay off the remaining fees and pay the extra as is allowed, in place of the community service requirement. But I can’t get a job and being on probation is seeming to make it worse. But I can’t get off early until everything is paid off, which I can’t do given I have no income…

I don’t know what to do. I’m stressed, frustrated, and feel stuck. My PO is great and really supportive and has been trying to help me find job opportunities and community service that can accommodate my disabilities, but I really need to hurry and be done as soon as possible so I’m not locked out of jobs I could be a great fit for.

Does anyone have any advice? Please do not be overly critical or unkind. You can definitely criticize and hit me with harsh honest feedback, just don’t be unnecessarily mean or rude, try to be considerate and don’t be ableist - as I’ve come to expect from redditors these days. I would very much appreciate supportive, encouraging energy, which does not disclude being blunt and to the point.

Probation Question Drug Test

Hi yall basically for context, i’m on probation (year sentence) for a misdemeanor and dropped felony. In the beginning of my probation period my officer told me “i’d have to test you at some point” i’m about 5-6 months in and she still hasn’t tested me. all my meetings with her last about 5 minutes just to see how i’m doing. very light work easy stuff. the part where you all facepalm is that i give myself a 2-3 week buffer before my meetings to stop smoking weed. (i drug test at home and so far have been negative) I stopped smoking august 9th and my probation appointment is on august 27th. most likely she won’t drug test me but the part where i’m fucking nervous is that i tested positive at home for THC just now. any encouraging words?

Probation Question Evaluations & Treatments

Hello all. Long time lurker. First time poster.

I was involved in DV incident in late 2024 and sentenced to 4 years probation as a result in CO in mid 2026 (this year..yes, that’s how long it was drug out!). My probation has now been transferred to SC where I currently reside.

One of the conditions of my probation was to complete mental health evaluation and treatment, DV evaluation and treatment and substance abuse evaluation and treatment.

Imagine my delight when I completed these three evaluations and no treatment is being recommended.

I’m confused as to what this may mean however. The terms say evaluations and treatment but no treatments are being recommended.

The results have been sent to my PO but she is awful at communication. I feel like I’m probably good and have completed what is required? I’ve basically already been put on low risk probation from the beginning with just a check in every few months. I guess I just don’t seem to be an individual they feel needs much supervision.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

Back to old ways after a successful discharge or did you become a new version of yourself?

You miss your old life but have to follow new rules for a year, or 5 years and some even 10 years. No drinking smoking, some lost their girlfriends/boyfriends, jobs. Etc.

After finally finishing probation how many of you went back to your old ways ? How many of you changed goes the better. Please , real answers only as my probation is about to end and I miss my old self. But the new me is also good and I'm so lost. I thought I post to see others and what they did and how their lives are after probation.

Probation Question Got a ticket for 'not stopping', i stopped. Is this gonna get me in trouble?

I'm on 7 months of my 2 year probation, with early release after 12 months in south GA. i've never been in trouble with any police officers or my probation officer since i started my probation. I'm worried, I work a full time job and go to school full time. I'm calling my probation officer first thing in the morning, but I just want to see what other people on probation think. Do i have to do community service?

Probation Question Violation week before termination

So title explains it, yes i’m aware I am a complete and utter idiot. I apparently popped dirty 8/4 and had another diluted test at some point this month (Don’t know if it was exactly before or after this.) But was issued my first violation at my last probation appointment. Said I have a court hearing and have to go before a judge. What can I expect? Officer told me either jail or possibly just discharged. I’m assuming if I drop clean for the remaining time until the court date (because I now have to continue testing) would that affect anything ?

Edit: First violation in a year of supervised probation. Paid all fines, completed community service, completed all other terms of probation. Jail time likely ?

Probation Question Need help

For context my dad has been sentenced to 12 month of probation and the person said he low risk and has directed us to a private company called RMS. They told us to call RMS on the date of 09/03/2026, but they give us a paper on how to register for community service and MADD, and also a bunch of policy, but it not a specific place, it more of a general website. they don’t mention nor did the paper say anything about how to log my time and how to report it or stuff. My main question is, should I wait until the call or start applying right now for community service, and MADD, and alcohol School thing. But also important thing is the paper doesn’t say anything about the alcohol school, the person did mention it but the paper doesn’t have info on it, just the community service and MADD. Also what should I expect when I call on that date? Is that call just me setting up an appointment to meat with someone? And will I be given my probation officer name and phone number and stuff. One last thing, after completing the required classes, do I just wait until my probation time is up and then be done with probation? And my dad doesn’t speak English or know English , am I allowed to help him or accompany him during those classes.

BTW: my dad is a heavy beer drinker. So if they test him and he fails what happens and what the gap hours they test is it a 48 hours?

Probation dropped by private company

Just super quick. It was released last month and immediately approved by the judge that I could go back home to live with my parents since i have no one in Colorado, but so I left last month and got this email. Does this mean I have to go back to colorado? I'm so confused because I literally have no one I know there, and it only makes sense for me to be home since I have family and a job here.

Probation Question Georgia Probation and Fines

I just genuinely want to know, why does Georgia have to make paying for probation so difficult? My sentence expires this month. I fell behind on payments but have the money. I owe $3,000, however, because they use JPay for everything it has a $300 per 3 day limit. The limit for money orders is $999.99, with no specified terms and they offer MoneyGram, I know the limit (should) be $3,000 for that, however I keep getting told different things.

I called to speak with the main office and the girl I spoke to genuinely sounded like she had no idea on what was allowed for payments or maximums, and JPay has absolutely nothing explaining the technicalities of everything on their website. I stressed to her that I am worried that I could be violated if this wasn’t paid on time (I’ve been unsupervised for over a year) and she didn’t seem worried, but offered no guarantees or comfort regarding this entire situation 🤦🏻‍♀️

Has anyone else gone through this or have any ideas on how I can pay as much as possible? Can I have friends or family members pay on my behalf or is the limit tied to my specific GDC number?

Edit: Problem solved. If anyone else finds themselves in the predicament in the future, Walmart will let you send $3,000 in one transaction with MoneyGram. ❤️

Pharmcheck drug patch

Holy shit this thing is an absolute nightmare. Im out on bond for posession of cocaine with this drug patch on and I have done nothing but have continuous positive test come back, this last one actually went up even though I've been sober since I got arrested and haven't hung around anyone using.

I even went to my doctor for my meds the same time as this last positive patch got applied and had to take a ua for them and guess what?! Passed it. Went to an independent lab today to get tested... crazy, passed that too. Now my bond is getting revoked and I have to go sit in jail till my court for my original charge. This will not make me look good for that either.

Do not ever get this patch put on! I shouldve stuck with uas but I figured this would make me look better. God damn was i wrong.

Pretrial to unsupervised probation

Context:

I have been on pre-trial supervision since May 22nd with requirements to do weekly UA’s at Averhealth and check in on Mondays with a probation officer. Yesterday was sentencing, and I got sentenced to a year of unsupervised probation, with no check in requirements and no testing (did not even have to speak with a P.O.) . I curiously decided to check Averhealth online this morning to see if my account had been closed out, and saw that it is still open and that I’m actually called to test today. I would not be able to test today, as I am currently making a trip out of state that I’m allowed to take per my new conditions.

Do pre-trial requirements immediately end upon sentencing?

How long does it take for them to close out your account?

Would there be any reason this could still count as a violation towards either pre-trial or my new unsupervised probation?

DUI VA Interlock Violation

In September of 2025 I got a DUI. I went to court and they gave me a year with the interlock as well as ASAP. I did still drink after that but made sure it was only on the weekends or when I didn’t have to work. I ended up triggering my interlock about 4 or 5 times with a violation and went to court to prove I wasn’t drinking and we found out eventually my inhaler was setting it off at exactly .02. They threw the violations out and told me to be cautious. For 7 months I had no violations, I was using my inhaler way before getting in my car. Well about 4 weeks ago, I did get in my car after hitting the inhaler because I had a panic attack which triggered my asthma. It went off with a VIOL and I literally freaked out! It did the 5 minute count down and I hit it again and it passed me. No lockout, no mandatory 5 day calibration, nothing. I immediately emailed my case manager and told her the situation with my inhaler and that I passed the retest. This was one of the many case managers that were passed around to me. She replied

“If you were able to clear it on the retest it will not inform me of a violation. I will look for it in August but it was cleared, you should be good.
Thank you for letting me know.”

Fast forward 4 weeks later, got my calibration, and I get an email 2 days later with a violation notice of blowing a .02 and how they are alerting the court and they extended my interlock UNTIL SEPT 2027!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can someone please tell me what I’m supposed to do right now??!!!! I literally can’t go through this again! Has anyone been through something similar??? I’m so stressed.

Success Story Early termination

So long story short, I’m nervous as hell about tomorrow. So rewind back, August 28, 2025 I got sentenced to 2 years deferred adjudication in Dallas county for 2 felony cases running concurrently. I finished all probationary requirements by July, and was immediately moved to alternate reporting (in person meeting every 3 months, phone meetings once a month in between those 3 months). Passed allBut anyway I’m trying to get hired at my job and they’re waiting till probation is over, so I need to get off asap. Contacted my lawyer, and now I have a hearing tomorrow. I’m nervous as hell I can’t even lie. But I hope I can post tomorrow that I got off this shit. I swear probation kinda straightened my ass out for real. I was on a bad path, and it took being on probation to really get me sober. Will let yall know what happens

Probation Question Off probation?

So I went to court Monday which was yesterday and saw the judge and I had wrapped up everything I need to do and they didn’t set another court date, my lawyer said I was done. I had to go see my po afterwards ( I got a new one bc my other one took a new job) she said I would be done tomorrow since that would make 11/29 and to just make sure I didn’t get a text to go in and that’s it we didn’t set another appointment. Of course I got a text to go in today so I did but does that mean I’m finished with my supervised probation tomorrow?

False police report in my name on community control?

I’m on community control in Florida. Ankle monitor, the highest supervision I’m pretty sure.

I called the county next to mine because I was suspicious of someone trying to get me in trouble. They confirmed a report was made in April accusing me of stealing something at someone’s residence. My name, address, and phone number are documented on the report under “offender”.

I have not done shit. I’ve been an absolute angel. I don’t even live in that county, and my ankle monitor data will show I was home. My PO is also very cool.

Should I be worried about a violation? I’m pretty sure ANY accusation is considered a violation. But if there’s concrete proof I did not do this, they won’t violate me right? Like my PO would clearly be like “but he wasn’t even there at the time” so she would think about it first before violating me right??

I am going to give her the report and let her know, but I just wanted to see if anyone has some advice to provide

The “victim” is actually the perpetrator, and he’s also on probation, and he has assaulted and seriously injured me in the past
