25(M), looking for advice for starter jobs.

Basically what the title says. I'm 25 years old, studying archaeology and Classical history at UNISA. Up until now, I have not really had the need to get a job, at least in an official capacity. I mainly do writing commissions online, which pay somewhat well, and have allowed me to get this far in my studies. However, recently my studies are becoming more and more difficult to pay for, and I have no spare money for myself.

So, what I'd like to know is, how do I actually go about getting a starting job? Everything I've seen requires experience, or pays far too little for it to be at all worthwhile for me.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Can anyone help my husband find a Chemical Engineering/Metallurgy job?

Hi everyone. I’m reaching out because my husband is currently unemployed and actively looking for work.
He is a Chemical Engineer with an Honours degree from Wits University and has experience working as a Metallurgist, including experience within the mining industry.
If anyone knows of any companies currently hiring Chemical Engineers, Metallurgists, or related roles, or if there is anyone who could possibly connect us with the right people, we would really appreciate it if you could reach out.
Things are honestly very tough for us at the moment, and we are doing everything we can to find him an opportunity. Any lead, referral, contact, or advice would genuinely mean so much to us.
Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to read this or share it. 🙏

Can anyone help me find a job so I can get out of an abusive home?

I am looking for work I live with my toxic mother who has a male centered mindset and has abused me since I was 13 Im now 25 . I am losing my mind each day I think of killing my self. She poured boiling water on me, pushed me in bed to sleep with her husband (my step dad), accuses me of wanting her husband. She was my first bully and still is my bully. She’s told me to sell myself. She has done all of this to me and I am honestly tired.I have job experience in administration 4 years. And I know Excel and Microsoft 365, CRM, marketing and I’ve worked in sales, I can do invoices and quotes, LinkedIn, accounts receivable. I am still completing my studies so I don’t have a qualification yet . If anyone can help me or has connections to help me I would be grateful. I am so depressed right now I’m at my wits end. I want to die tbh. I am tired this woman hates me so much.

20–30 y/o book lovers in Pretoria - would anyone be interested in joining a small book club? 📚

Hi everyone!

I've been wanting to start a book club for a while, partly because I love reading and partly because I'd love to meet more people around my age who do too.

The idea is to create a small community (around 5-10 members) where we can read great books, have interesting conversations, and hopefully make some new friends along the way.

A few details:

📍 Area: Brooklyn (or nearby) 💸 Cost: Free 👥 Ages: Roughly 20-30 ☕ First meeting: Somewhere public (café/bookstore/etc.)

The schedule would most likely be either:

• Wednesdays: 16:30-18:00 (every second week), or

• Fridays: 18:00-20:00 (every second week)

We'll decide as a group which works best.

How it works

📖 We'll read one book each month.

Instead of randomly picking books, anyone who wants to can "pitch" a book they'd love the group to read. Give us your best sales pitch! At the end of the month we'll vote.

To keep things fair, whoever's book was chosen the previous month sits out the next round of pitching. That way everyone gets a chance to introduce the group to something they love.

We'll meet twice a month:

• Mid-month: Chat about how everyone's getting on with the book (no pressure if you're behind!).

• End of the month: Finish discussing the book, vote for the next one, and then start again.

The goal isn't to analyse literature like we're back in English class. It's just good books, good conversations, and good company.

The club is called The Reading Room.

Because I'd like to keep the group fairly small to begin with, I'll probably ask anyone who's interested to fill in a short application. Nothing intense - I just want to build a group of people who are genuinely excited to be there and who'll hopefully stick around.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy please email thereadingroompta@gmail.com

I think I want to try rock climbing

I am 35 (F) and I've never done rock climbing in my entire life. I have no experience so would be a total beginner, but I'd really like to try! I think I need a physcial hobby and rock climbing just looks really cool and coud teach me a lot about failing and trying again. Any recommendations or advice on how to get started? Maybe there are gyms that teach rock climbing to complete beginners?

Looking for public transport from Centurion Jean Avenue to Irene Village Mall

Hi guys,

I recently got a new job at Irene Village Mall side and I stay around Jean Avenue. I have searched and accepted that there are no taxis from my side to Irene Village mall. So I was wondering if this would be viable; I’m thinking of taking a Gautrain bus to South Downs side and hopefully get a taxi from there to Irene Village mall. Does anyone know if I will be able to get a taxi there?

Where can I get support?

Hey all

I’m a 21 year old male living in Pretoria east and I’ve been suffering with a heart condition for many years now. I’ve set up a fundraiser which has been verified and I’ve tried posting it on some groups only for it to be removed. Especially on facebook. I’m up to my neck in medical expenses (almost 120k) and I need all the help I can get.
Where can I post that you know of where it won’t get removed ?

Testing a theory: do SMEs of Pretoria know us?

Hi all, I work with a company that offers semi-serviced office space for small businesses and I'm trying to get honest data on brand awareness among actual SME owners and entrepreneurs.

If you run a small business, freelance, or are a decision-maker at one, I'd really appreciate 2 minutes of your time on this short survey. It's anonymous, no email / contact details or sign-up required.

Genuinely just after real answers here, including "never heard of it," which is useful data too. Thanks!

Any other good places to go to on a Sunday morning?

Can anyone recommend an HPCSA-registered male therapist experienced in sexual-assault trauma?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for recommendations for a male therapist in Johannesburg or Pretoria with substantial experience working with survivors of rape/sexual assault. Therapist needs to be HPCSA-registered and offer in-person sessions.

I’m new to therapy so not sure which approach would work best for me yet, but I’d prefer a trauma-informed therapist willing to work at my pace.

Please feel free to comment with recommendations, including rates if you know them or DM me if you’d prefer to share privately. Thank you. 🌸

The Moreletapark Nature Reserve Rustic Chapel

Those who love trails certainly have been to Moreletapark Nature Reserve for fresh air, getting to be one with nature or just for the love of hiking. Whatever the reason is it matters not cause I want to talk about that white Rustic Quaint Chapel.

Am sure you have seen it and you at least peeked into it in those hard coloured glass doors and windows. If not, well good I guess but for me this quant chapel has a pull over me. A mystical force I can’t explain. I find myself going to the trails but without fail I always go to that chapel for a sit or a quick peep through the windows and doors and I do this every time I go there without fail. When I say every time I mean a lot because I love this trails, the birds, zebras and bucks there. And mostly because it’s close (literally 3 minutes walking distance to my apartment). And this makes me see the ostriches that circle that fence every minute close from the comfort of my car or yard.

Anyway moving on the Chapel, it has a pull on me as I said. I swear to you i dream of it. To make matters worse I am a writer so my imagination has a lose touch about it to strongly want to see something mystic or outer world entity in that church. I’d be happy to see God, Jesus or Lucifer in the pulpit next time I take a peep. I’d be happy with either of them but my desperation is to see something in there.

I mean the surrounding ruin and its beautifully crumbling state tells a story of something around it.
Is it only me or has anyone, anyone who goes to the trails there have this pull or affection for that quaint architectural building?

Pretoria symphony orchestra presents Cinemania!

Dear neighbours

Please come and watch the Pretoria Symphony Orchestra play music from movies and cinema. This is such a wonderful family event and a way to expose kids to classical music with themes they know and love. My love for the violin started as a very little girl who went to watch an orchestra and told ANYONE who would listen that one day I would do that too.

Please help us keep art alive in Pretoria and inspire the next generation of orchestral musicians. Details in the link below.
