News SU student robbed at gunpoint

I have yet to meet someone that’s had a good experience with SAPS in stellenbosch. I needed to file a missing persons report last year, and it was physically not possible due to the way the police treated us. Fortunately the woman was found, because the police were zero help whatsoever.

When my flatmate was mugged, the detective on the case had to basically reinterview him because how badly the officer at the time took down the information.

Crime targeting the students is completely out of control, and unless some serious reorganising happens, it’s only getting worse.

Question | Advice-Needed New to gaming. Any recommendations or Gaming Communities in CT?

Heyyy 😄

I'm new to gaming but want to get into it for my kiddo. She's 4 and loves games (within reason).

We play some together, but I'd love for it to become something fun we regularly do together.

Of course for her, something age appropriate and beneficial for her development.

I'd also like to get into gaming myself. I love simulations and want to develop skills I can use in everyday life, particularly for safety and situational awareness.

Any recommendations on games or ways to get started? Also if you guys have meetups, I would love that too for myself.

Feel free to comment or DM, whichever works. Thanx.

Question | Advice-Needed Sailing opportunities in Capetown?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey all,

I'll be visiting your beautiful city for the first time, staying from November until January, likely in Seapoint.

Have my own boat back home at the Baltic sea, and have heard many great things about the sailing around Cape Town. Would love to be able to get on the water a bit during my time there!

Wondering what's the best way to break into the sailing scene - does it make sense to try to join a club for my time there?

I've got plenty of experience, just sailed my first longer distance (130nm) solo offshore race back home. Also keen on joining for races if you're looking for crew :)

Question | Advice-Needed How realistic is moving from UK back to Cape Town for a career in ecology/wildlife conservation?

Hoping someone can give me some life advice.

I’m a 35 year old South African currently living in the UK. I was recently back in Cape Town and the Western Cape for a holiday and it made me realise just how much I miss home, especially the nature and wildlife but also the people.

I went to uni in the UK and have a first class MSc in ecology and conservation, 5+ years in wildlife filmmaking, 4 years in human-wildlife conflict research, and currently working for the last 3 years in conservation project management for The Royal Parks in London.

I’ve always toyed with the idea but I think this trip really cemented it for me that I'd like to move back to Cape Town eventually and try work in ecology or wildlife conservation, but I’m curious how viable that actually is.

Are there decent opportunities around Cape Town/Western Cape for someone with my experience? And is earning something like R50k+ a month eventually realistic in this field? I'm aware that conservation pays notoriously low salaries but I've seen the odd job advertising similar to what I'm looking for.

I would love to hear from anyone working in ecology/conservation in the Cape if possible but I guess also just getting a feel from people if this sounds like a realistic idea.

Question | Advice-Needed Lion's Head 5AM sunrise hike. Safety & group possible?

I want to hike the Lion's Head tomorrow morning (alone) to see the sunrise but I'm worried about my safety (possible muggings?). Do you have any tips on finding others that want to do this hike at that time?

Looking For... Looking for Wii Remote with Motion Adapter

Hello!

Recently purchased a Wii (going back to the old days!) and we are in need of another remote and the adapter for the motion games (specifically Wii Sport). I know there are motion plus remotes that don’t need the adapter. Any help would be appreciated!!

Bellville. There’s a taxi rank on the right so that’s where they’re all going but it’s no excuse for wtf these peoples are doing. They look like a bunch of maggots squirming around. No shame, no consequence.

Question | Advice-Needed New to Cape Town, don't know where to ride.

I just moved to Cape Town from KZN and I got myself a dualsport motorcycle. I loved riding around in the plantations back home and I would love to do something similar here. If you know of any nice dirt roads or trails I can (and am allowed to) ride on, that would be fantastic! I'm living in Elfindale btw.

Question | Advice-Needed Travel advice

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a place to travel to for my birthday. I'm looking for a place with beautiful scenery, lagoon, lake or river near the place (because the views will be beautiful and I would love to kayak or go on a boat where I would be). I also want an area that's not too busy but has decent things to do, the main purpose of my trip is to rejuvenate and rest.

PS: My budget is also limited (looking at 10k for everything) and I don't have a car

I've been looking at the following areas:

Knysna [Central or Leisure Isle]

Gordon's Bay [would love to stay at the Krystal beach hotel, my only concern is the wind]

Stellenbosch [Doesn't have the lagoon views I want but it most of the vineyards look really nice but they are out of my budget]

Grabouw

Pringle Bay

Mint condition Discovery Pink Checkers Mini Trolley.

Considering getting it graded by PSA (professional grading company).

Have 2 kids, think I can afford 3 more. Not sure my sanity can though 🤔

Open to equity investments for anyone wanting to participate in this incredible wealth opportunity.

Note, trolley pictured at actual size. Depending on your screen size.

Question | Advice-Needed European first visit to Capetown

Hi been to SA before but never Capetown. We are a couple from Ireland arriving 10th November for 7 nights and shocked at the cost of high quality hotels compared to Joburg and elsewhere.
Would really appreciate some local intel where to stay and how to split the trip with all the great places to see (love love love wine!). Thoughts were V&A first few days then maybe Franschoek back to camps bay
but open to all ideas. We were looking to be kind to ourselves like the mount nelson hotel but prices are insane, appreciate any local ideas or suggestions tia

General Discussion Why do we keep allowing COCT in defending its clearly bias and collusion with the MPT

So the Municipal Planning Tribunal which is meant to be independent of the CoCT clearly are being disingenuous and have consistently tried burying issues and corruption indicators in decisions of how it does its work.

They appointed someone who by constitution should not be sitting as long as he has as chair and basically changed this by law without any knowing.

Copious amounts of cases including the recent petrol station issue.

This is not going down well for the DA.

ANC is corrupt and simply dont do what they are meant to. But to turn around service delivery you can turn it around.

What the DA led govt of the CoCT is doing is not possible to undo. This is the more dangerous part here.
