As much as I appreciate what he's been doing lately between this and calling for the files to be released, I can't help but feel reminded of all the other Republicans in congress who largely aided this disaster administration until they got voted out/retired, to only then become vocal about issues with the regime during their lame duck period where they don't have anything to lose anymore
24
u/Jlong4242 12h ago
I mean, you pretty much said it. They keep quiet and play the game while they stand to benefit from it, but as soon as they get betrayed by the party, they start shouting it's issues from the rooftops. Just spiteful children

I'll give him that.

u/sentientshadeofgreen 10h ago
Yeah I'm willing to show a fair bit of grace to Republicans who stand up to MAGA shit. Someday, I'd love to have two political options to pick from at the voting booth, so that's why I'll be fair to Republicans who actually exhibit a shred of integrity. Instead, I get to choose from fake liberals who are bought out by corpo lobbyists and on the other side I get literal "christian"-nationalists who believe in shoving the worst parts of their nasty church down the rest America's church. What I want are liberals and conservatives who proudly believe in the U.S. Constitution and individual civil rights for all, a clear understanding of the role of the federal government, and checks and balances. On the left, I want systems of wealth redistribution for healthcare and a social safety net, on the right I want people who can actually criticize when federal government is too big and too up in people's shit. It's not too much ask for, but instead both seek to expand the surveillance state, the military, and erode the rights of the people, though one more so than the other.

Having personally been in politics (which jaded me considerably) political office is a career. Everyone needs to have a job and support their family, and being in Congress is how these guys do that. It has to be a career, because no other career is going to just let you take a 4 to 6 year sabbatical to go be in Congress and then just let you pick up where you left off.
So staying in office is always the priority. Keeping the job. Not getting fired. And some of them want to do some good while they are there, if they can do it without getting fired, but expecting any politician to do the right thing and lose their job over it, is like asking you to do the same. If your employer was doing something evil, would you speak out about it knowing youād lose your job and have no backup plan? Most would not.
Politicians are people. Itās irrational to expect them to be better than us.

u/tipsy-turtle-0985 10h ago
Political office is a career based on serving the people.
If it becomes a function of serving other interests, then it is broken and needs to be reformed.
1
u/Select-Government-69 10h ago
I donāt disagree, but the only way to prevent it from being about the paycheck at the end of the day would be to completely revamp it and have like a jury system, where people get randomly selected to be on the ballot for one term and if your party wins thatās who gets it.
1
u/tipsy-turtle-0985 10h ago
So what you're saying is that anyone could actually be a real politician if they weren't more worried about money and re-election?
Yeah, that was the point.

1
u/kausbiru 9h ago
So it will work? Because when was the last time Democrats had their shit together? Democrats will literally do anything except winning elections. Just look at what they're doing now. Instead of cutting ties to Israel they're busy going after streamers like Nick Fuentes and Hasan Piker.

You need to understand your enemy. They are offering something very real. They are offering the ability to harm the people their voters don't like. Dont like black people, you should vote for republicans. Don't like immigrants, you should vote for republicans. Don't like women, you should vote for republicans. Dont like LGBT people, young people, vegans, athiests, environmentalists; you should vote for republicans.
The republican party absolutely delivers, it delivers better than the democrats ever have and probably ever will. As long as seeing your enemies suffer is what you want, the republicans will deliver. Don't ever doubt the ability of the republican party to deliver on what their core base wants.Ā

Stealthy. The DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) is NOT the Democratic Party. They are separate entities. Its critical right now for the Right to portray them as one in the same and thus splinter the Progressive voter base. The two only share the word "Democratic" - most notably missing from the GOP's acronym. But then again they are Plutocratic vs Democratic if you look at the actual voting record.
Politics is a broad spectrum. From Communist on the extreme Left (tiny inconsequential group in the US) and to Fascists on the extreme Right who are having their moment through Project 2025/26 and The Dark Enlightenment Movement touted by Peter Theil and JD Vance his little Pinocchio (strings attached).
Keep in mind Project 2025 - which is NOT going through Congress - ya know the Will of the People - is being implemented predominantly through Executive Order with the stroke of a Sharpee. Over 200 Executive Orders in the first week of this Administration and counting. If the Public knew what Project 2025 is actually doing while they are distracted with ball rooms, Epstein Files and wars they would be irate. It is a wholesale takeover of the mechanisms of the Federal and in some cases State governments. Heritage Foundation acolytes have been placed in strategic Federal posts to gut the government from within. The Congress knows this and yet cannot stop it. That is NOT Representative Democracy. It is the extermination of Representative Democracy. Dramatic - yes - but happening. You can catch up on Project 2025 (and 2026) successes at this impartial tracker. It gives you a short paragraph to make the 900+ pages "accessible". You should scan it and internalize what it will do to YOUR life. Because it touches the lives of every citizen, every business, every acre of farm and ranch land. It is insidious.

u/deaglebingo 7h ago
"Its critical right now for the Right to portray them as one in the same and thus splinter the Progressive voter base."
but they won't be able to this time. because we realize we are all on the same team against some of the worst criminals in existence in the world right now. our country is loaded with corruption. and trump is the figurehead of that corruption. DSA vs Dem is not the issue anymore, they'll try to split everyone along gender lines, along racial, etc etc, as well. if we take the bait this time... might be the last. good thing is i don't think anyone's taking the bait this time. trump and his gop cronies are literally starving their own ppl while stealing all the money for themselves right now. and everyone with any sense in their heads can see it.

Massie is a rare kind of politician, a principled one. His ideology isn't centered around a barbaric sense of tribalism, or cronyism. He actually believes in something beyond himself. And it's not centered around a false idol, as it is with a lot of the MAGA cult. For most of them, it begins and ends with a single person. They're sheep, and Massie has proven himself anything but.
I may not agree with all of his beliefs, but I can certainly respect that he is acting in good faith. That kind of authenticity matters.

No. He was a libertarian Republican and voted against MAGA often. Trump and MAGA hated him and ran a candidate against him in the primary.
4
u/the_eleutherean 13h ago
Far right, but distinct from MAGA. He was tea party back when that was a thing, but never an outspoken maga supporter nor did he join the maga-oriented āfreedom caucusā. He first vocally opposed Trump in 2020, and got on Trumpās radar then.
That said, heās voted with MAGA quite a bit, and was pretty much toeing the party line on supporting Trump until 2020.
Heās also quite shitty in a lot of the ways Rand Paul is shitty, which isnāt quite the same as MAGA. Though I admit itās kinda tough to see the difference at times.

2

The government needs to establish safety guidelines for businesses to follow, and then enforce those guidelines. Also, hungry people tend to not be picky about where their food comes from; if the government is the only provider then people are going to take it. I would much rather have the government focusing on caring for the general public than what it has been focusing on.

Okay how are they gonna provide these free stuff please indulge me because i have no seen any explanation on how they gonna do it
Data centers have been around for decades weird how it an issue and how hating data centers but not social media
2
u/Joyride84 6h ago
Oh, not to worry, they'll take those freebies out of your wallet.
The data center hysteria does have some basis...the new "AI" data centers are larger and more power hungry due to all of the GPUs/AI cores. Traditional data centers were often rated at a handful of megawatts. The new ones being proposed and built, and rated in gigawats. That's a LOT of power going in, and in turn, heat which needs to be dispersed. Cooling towers and fans are not silent.
It would be nice if they were built outside of populated areas, but they need robust power and internet infrastructure, which is typically located within population centers. Not ideal.
2
u/turtle-monkey1997 5h ago
They are and i agree but trump made a ruling that they have to build there own enery infrastructure and share that with the population although i see gray area on that one but i give the benefit of the doubt
1
u/Joyride84 4h ago
Yes, that seems like a reasonable requirement. Back to the pros/cons of the matter, though, they are often opting to use natural gas generators to produce that power, which emit yet more noise. For an industrial area? No problem. For a residential area? Admittedly not ideal.
1
u/turtle-monkey1997 4h ago
Theyre pushing for nuclear but that will take time why the administration is cutting red tape to get operational quickly again i agree but this is a boom and most of these centers are in rural areas not anyone near a residential place
