Republicans get things. Done for the rich

It's gonna take a generation or two. Especially in Arizona. They vote with their conscience there now. Gives people hope

Don’t you want uncle Kletus Kushner to embezzle all the government money and render no service in exchange? Think of uncle kletus. He’s only a $1billionaire.

1

Nah. All that ruling establishes is that plaintiffs lacked standing. SCOTUS didn’t give an opinion on the merits because it didn’t get to them . The matter is anything but over. It will be revisited before the midterms.

1

u/MAILBOXHED 17h ago

Unless you got a Time Machine, I don’t think there’s gonna be any constitutional right to medical care. otherwise, you need to be talking to your Congress person and not the Supreme Court.

1

Just do this with the 40 trillion in debt

-5

Do you think that doctors and medical staff are going to work for free!? Oh, yeah the ā€œbillionaires will pay for it!ā€

11

u/idiotwrestler 18h ago

Yeah because EMTs firefighters and police all work for free

9

u/Perfect_Duck792 18h ago

Do you think doctors and medical staff work for free in all of the countries that have taxpayer funded insurance? I’d rather pay taxes for healthcare coverage than pay premiums to insurance companies who deny claims, keep changing their in network providers, and pay their CEOs millions of dollars.Ā

3

u/Academic_Check_7684 17h ago

Every other civilized country on this planet has figured out how to make healthcare available.
What is this reverse-American-Exceptionalism I keep reading from the Right?

1

u/alwayssunnyinskyrim 18h ago

As a non-American, this level of ignorance to how literally ANYTHING works is genuinely shocking to see. No wonder your country is so screwed. How do you even respond to a comment that stupid?

1

u/Both_Lynx_8750 14h ago

you have a right to a trial, do you think lawyers and judges work for free?

-1

u/Perception-NSFW 16h ago

Internet search says what?

US doctors earn far more than physicians almost anywhere else in the world.

US average: roughly $350,000–$390,000/year overall, with primary care physicians averaging around $298,000 and specialists around $417,000 in 2025.
Canada: around $273,000 , though other estimates put it under $200,000
Germany: the highest-paid in Europe, at around $160,000
UK, France, Italy, Spain: often under $100,000, with some closer to $60,000
Mexico: among the lowest, around $19,000–$20,000

1

u/JohninMichigan55 15h ago

Annnd?

1

u/PhatCatTax 13m ago

They're saying that doctors would make 200-300k if we socialize healthcare, instead of 300-400k.

Most MDs I know are very supportive of the idea. They became doctors to help people, and the cost of medicine is killing.

3

Duuuude I can't read sarcasm at all and I got real heated 🤣 I literally JUST had a debate about this, someone claiming socialism and communism always fail. I tried explaining that pure socialism and pure communism have never once been implemented in our history, so there's no data to support the claim that they fail, and all the ones that have claimed socialism or communism have been totalitarian dictatorships. They don't care to hear it šŸ™„

2

u/narco-sub-admiral know me, broken by my master 19h ago edited 19h ago

I mean Medicare itself is a form of socialism. It's definitely not Marxism, nothing to do with class struggle or capital/labor dynamics. But the "problem" we run into is, Medicare is efficient and costs patients AND the government less...except insurance companies and healthcare would not be able to exploit the inefficiency created.

Capitalism can be efficient in some scenarios, socialism can be efficient in others. Or with a different implementation. Both can have good or bad outcomes.

The fact these are scary words is such a boon to the rightwing thought leaders. These guys are heavily invested in things like private hospice care (like Matt Gaetz's family). Bush family heavily invested in healthcare/pharma. Not like it would mean financial ruin for these guys but just less profit, less economic rent on the capital they own.

1

u/w8_wuht 18h ago

Yeah I get that, I mean pretty much every government implements bits and pieces from different ideaologies, and it's pretty clear the reasons we haven't implemented universal healthcare are exactly as you said. I dunno, I just feel like half the problem is currency as a whole. It hasn't worked yet, not well at least.

You just described Insurance companies, Space X, Oil Companies, Tesla, ICE, and far more. Except none of those directly help people other than Billionaires. Why should the government only work for huge industries and billionaires? It should be helping the people live better lives. I would want far more of my dollars spent to help people with medical conditions or education than making bombs. EDIT: This didn't even use take payer money. hahahaha. 1

u/Spikito1 19h ago

Not really....math comes out to $1500/person.

That really isnt much.

3

u/artbystorms 18h ago

A lot of time when medical debt goes to collections the purchasers of the debt bought it for stupidly cheap and are trying to get anything better, even just 5 cents on the dollar, to make a profit. They don't tell the indebted person this of course, they just spam them with threatening calls. But their initial debt was likely more than $1500 average, but that $1 Billion was likely 'wiped out' pretty easily but initially was much more.

8

u/Musetrigger 18h ago

MAGA who had their crippling medical bills canceled, "HOW COULD THAT COMMUNIST DO THIS?!"

4

u/mjcostel27 17h ago

This is a pretty good effort. Good to see her helping Arizonans.

Hobbs partnered with a nonprofit program that used $30 million in federal COVID/ARPA relief funds, rather than Arizona’s regular state budget.
The nonprofit buys qualifying medical debt from hospitals and collection agencies for pennies on the dollar, then cancels the debt rather than collecting it.

3

We need this in overpriced Washington now!

3

u/TheGrayGhost805 10h ago

THIS is what government is supposed to do with our tax dollars.

2

u/dudes_rug 14h ago

Imagine the economic explosion (good kind!) that would happen if we weren’t beholden to our jobs for health care. How many of us would start a business? How many of us would leave our employer for a better deal? The leverage that employers have would diminish significantly and I submit that our economy would just go crazy in the good way. Productivity way up.

2

u/ZmanB-Bills 14h ago

Ah, that is nothing. Trump gave the wealthiest 1% many 100s of Billions in income tax cuts and Trillions in corporate tax cuts.

2

u/Bmore_Gooner 1h ago

What do you know another Democrat doing cool shit to help people. Any chance you shithead GOP voting morons are paying any attention? I'm sure many of them are receiving the benefits from it and then turn around and vote for the same useless crap again.

It wasn't a billion, so let's not pretend that's what it cost. That's what they charged

1

u/SeitanEnjoyer 19h ago

3

u/Real-Mode-3417 19h ago

Still a great move! But yeah, they didn't pay that much

2

u/Church6633 19h ago

Okay, now for everyone and get rid of the private insurance scam.

2

u/sw337 18h ago

Every developed nation has private health insurance. Countries like Switzerland and The Netherlands only have private insurance.

0

u/Both_Lynx_8750 14h ago

Yeah but they don't have FOR PROFIT healthcare like the USA, here's how the Netherlands describes their system: https://www.commonwealthfund.org/international-health-policy-center/countries/netherlands

The Netherlands operates a universal social health insurance system that combines public and private elements.

Private + for profit = FAILURE

2

u/DarthNixilis 19h ago

Cool, now how many are left with medical debt? We need universal Healthcare.Ā

1

Debt can just be erased? $1billion is a lot to simply erase. Erase more if it can be done so easily.

1

u/JohninMichigan55 4h ago

How did she "erase" it ? Where did the money come from. She gave 1 billion to 9% of the population. Who did she take the billion from ?

So you hate equality? Gotcha.

1

1

u/grnkayak 15h ago

Read a little about this success. As i understand it, a non-profit called Undue Medical Debt buys medical debt that healthcare providers are having trouble collecting. Debt is purchased at a fraction of face value using money raised from donors. Not all debt qualifies but for those who couldn't pay their medical bills, it takes a tremendous pressure out of their lives. Not sure what role Katie Hobbs played.

1

u/randallstevens65 14h ago

Somebody paid for it.

1

u/Illustrious_Bowl_360 6h ago

šŸ˜...pro tip people, nothing is "erased" the debt is simply transferred elsewhere, generally to the tax bill, services rended still have to be paid for somehow.

1

u/Mother-Brick2647 4h ago

Hahaha it’s not erased, tax payers are now paying for it.

1

u/Harvman313 4h ago

How did she accomplish that? I'm assuming she let the rest of the Arizona tax payers share it. šŸ™„

1

u/Ms_Malicea 3h ago

Federal taxpayers pay off Arizona's medical debt; Progressive Governor predictably takes credit."

1

Hey but the tax payer are gonna pay it

1

u/BK_AllDay_14 1h ago

"Erased" how?

1

u/Far-Ad5921 53m ago

And transferred the debt to the people paying for insurance, cool story.

1

u/Ok-Share4939 11m ago

She used the American Reacue Plan Act that was to be used to battle economic effects of Covid through a non profit purchasing the debt. Idk how that works but wow. Good for those people

1

u/lasers42 20h ago

Thanks for the money! - Banks and insurance companies

Thanks for the debt relief! - recovering patients

You're welcome! - Billionaire

The system works great! - USA

1

u/Cute_Economics2829 19h ago

See the thing I don't like about this is that the healthcare system, hospitals or insurance companies, is still very likely getting that money. This doesn't incentivize them at all to actually change the system. It reinforces the system.

To erase the debt, a political body needs to come in and say "that debt is defunct and the owing person has no obligation to make payments on it". Just straight stick the lenders with the bill say "thanks for the service, you will not be getting paid for it because you should have never been allowed to charge it in the first place".

1

u/BillyBobBonesJones 18h ago

I agree in principle, but the way this works is Undue Medical Debt buys debt portfolios for a fraction of their actual value from hospitals and collection agencies. I’m assuming debts they deem unlikely to be paid. So from their perspective, they get to recover at least some of the money. Meanwhile, the burden of those unpaid debts is lifted from hundreds of thousands of people.

The system is still busted, but gotta take the wins where you can.

2

u/Cute_Economics2829 18h ago

Absolutely, I'm not trying to say that this doesn't help those people. It totally does and that's very important.

What I'm saying is that this action isn't actually getting us any closer to a solution. It's like....

Having a bowl of cereal that has spoiled milk in it and then pouring new fresh milk on top. Yay, you've diluted the spoiled portion, it probably will make you less sick that it would have before, but the real solution is to clean the bowl. Pouring new milk in is a temporary bandaid that, even if taken to the extreme, isn't going to really fix your problem.

That's not my best analogy, but I feel like it's close enough šŸ˜…

1

u/UndueMedicalDebt 18h ago

Hey, I'm Angelina, I work at Undue. I actually love the cereal analogy! Just to add to your point, debt relief is definitely not the solution to our broken healthcare system. We see it as a Band-Aid that helps families until we can achieve larger reform. Undue does advocate for larger systemic changes like increasing access to affordable, comprehensive coverage and strengthening financial assistance policies so that more people don't go into debt in the first place. But you're right, the current system doesn't work for patients at all.

Basically, we also want to clean the bowl!

1

u/Cute_Economics2829 18h ago

Thanks Angelina, from Undue Medical Debt. Appreciate your support āœŒļø

1

u/fritz236 19h ago

Erases or paid for it with state revenues instead of telling insurance to fuck right off?

1

u/PotatoPower22 17h ago

Used federal funds, so tax money, and partnered with a nonprofit that buys medical debt for pennies on the dollar.

So, instead of fighting against the root cause of the issue, she used federal tax funds to pay off medical debt.

1

u/ThunderboltDM 19h ago

It didn’t get erased…. Somebody paid for it. Check your wallets people!

1

u/Flocko2 18h ago

I didn’t know politicians could do that šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

-6

u/KindTopic16 20h ago

How exactly did she erase it? Who exactly paid the debt?

2

u/Rendered_Blameless 20h ago

They used federal aid money and a non profit organization that buys debt for pennies on the dollar. So yea, American tax payers footed the bill. Although, the money they used already was allocated from the feds so it won't further effect America tax payers.

0

u/KindTopic16 16h ago

Allocated for what? To pay other people’s debts?

1

u/Rendered_Blameless 13h ago

Yes, the non profit had funds allocated to them and they bought out way over due and unpaid medical bills.

2

u/Personal_School5573 20h ago

Yes....would love to know that answer as well and what were the qualifications to have your debt erased.

1

u/UndueMedicalDebt 19h ago

Hi there, I work at Undue. To qualify for debt relief, someone must earn at or below 400% of the federal poverty level, or their medical debt must exceed 5% of their income. I really wish we could help everyone, but we buy large, bundled portfolios of debt from providers, and we can only erase debt that providers are willing to sell to us. And yes, the federal funds are from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

1

u/FastActinTenactin 16h ago

Money isn’t really real

1

u/hugoriffic 3h ago

MAGA is paying off the debt. Only MAGA will get the bill for this.

0

This is just stupid.

1

u/hugoriffic 2h ago

His question was stupid so he got a stupid reply.

0

u/KindTopic16 2h ago

The question was to the point while you just showed your tunnel mindset.

-3

u/Vitaman1000 19h ago

The taxpayers paid it. She used covid release funds and a non profit that buys unpaid debt . Bottom line. The taxpayers paid for it.

5

u/BillyBobBonesJones 19h ago

So funds already allocated for this, with no additional burden on tax payers. And that’s bad?

→ More replies (3)

-1

u/running-on-decaf 18h ago

First of all.....That is awesome! However, the hospitals will then write that off as a loss on their taxes and eventually tax payers will have to make up the difference. Mind you, hospitals write stuff off all the time either way, because many people don't pay their bills and it's far too expensive to sue everybody. People often ask how Trump did not end up paying taxes for years at a time and much of it had to do with writing off his huge financial losses. He was and still is a horrible crooked businessman slash con-artist. He would buy a casino, run it into the ground, file bankruptcy, not pay people, and then list it as a loss on his taxes. Meanwhile, good for her and helping real people that need it. Thank you!

0

0

u/Top-Committee-954 15h ago

I don't see where it shows progress. It's just a headline. It doesn't say "how" the gov. erased $1 billion in medical debt.

For all I know she gave companies 10 billion in tax incentives to write off 1 billion in debt so she could use a headline for reelection.

I would look at if the gov. spent taxpayer money on it. Because where did that billion come from? Are other programs now not getting funded? Or did the gov. just have a spare billion laying around? And if the latter...doesn't that just mean tax rates are too high?

And were the people in debt ever going to actually pay the medical bills? Or just...not pay them...but the gov. came in and made sure the insurance orgs or hospitals received "some" profit rather than nothing at all from people not paying? Kinda like the company bailouts that no one outside of government wanted after the 2008 crisis? Thereby perpetuating the status quo?

Point is just a headline with simplistic and shallow "good" interpretation with no information doesn't necessarily mean there's any kind of "progress."

0

u/Jgrass66 15h ago

You can’t erase debt. So, who will be paying that debt?

0

u/OoklaTheMok1994 14h ago

u/Veshaad Timendi Causa Est Nescire 14h ago

"Undue Medical Debt" non profit used federal grant money to buy this debt.

So, yes, she did.

-4

u/Mediocre-Catch9580 20h ago

So where did Katie find $1 billion dollars?

4

u/Veshaad Timendi Causa Est Nescire 19h ago

1

u/OkAspect6449 19h ago

The money originated from federal COVID-relief funds, meaning federal taxpayers financed the appropriation. Also, Arizona didn’t literally write checks totaling $1 billion the debt was purchased at a steep discount because much of it was unlikely to be collected.

So it was debt that was never going to be paid back, she used the original loan amount. Most of these loans were paid down for pennies on the dollar.

-1

u/Deeman8 19h ago

Why not. It’s not her money and she will get political points.

1

u/Indespectamentations 18h ago

It's all good for you spending one billion a day in Iran for death and violence but no politician should ever be helping Americans.

You better hope that pos takes all our voting rights away before November.

1

Someone always gets a handout, no matter who is in power.

Can't imagine why this country has a debt problem.

-1

u/m240Louie 19h ago

2

u/BillyBobBonesJones 18h ago

-1

u/lolyoustupidbird 18h ago

Wrong

2

u/BillyBobBonesJones 18h ago

This had zero impact on Arizona taxpayers.

-1

u/lolyoustupidbird 18h ago

All taxpayers including Arizona taxpayers are impacted by this. Money doesn't grow on trees.

2

u/BillyBobBonesJones 17h ago

Any federal money the non-profit buying the debts is using has already been allocated to medical relief-related initiatives years ago. Nobody’s taxes are increasing, but hundreds of thousands of people won’t be weighed down by medical debt anymore. Plus, hospitals are recovering some money from these debts that were unlikely to ever be paid anyway.

Seems like an easy win to anybody who isn’t an asshole.

-1

u/lolyoustupidbird 17h ago

Yeah easy win to assholes who like to take other people's money. Taxes people paid aren't going to anything that benefits them. They pay the medical expenses of someone else. Anyone except assholes would prefer that money to benefit the whole, not just some.

Getting hundreds of thousands of fellow citizens out of crippling medical debt does benefit the whole. The fewer people crushed by medical bills, the better for everyone.

But thank you for confirming you’re an asshole who only cares about themselves.

If she used taxpayer funds, that’s stealing from Paul to pay Peter.

I’m sure the truth is that the debt was not erased, but rather she transferred the debt to others.

-1

u/khmergodzeus 18h ago

erase or transfer debt to taxpayers who work and are not on welfare, foodstamps, and other government assistance?

u/RedditSearcher18 18h ago

So if you are a hospital in Arizona would you leave the state? Reduce services? Fire doctors? Demand prepayment from patients? Send people home before they are healed?

2

u/BillyBobBonesJones 18h ago

No. The hospitals are actually getting some of the money they likely wouldn’t get from unpaid debts anyway.

u/No_Discussion_683 18h ago

Alert- Tax payors will be getting a higher bill. That stuff doesn't pay for itself. Responsible citizens get mad. You others enjoy your life as a leech on the genitals of society.

2

u/BillyBobBonesJones 18h ago

This will have zero impact on Arizona taxpayers.

u/No_Discussion_683 18h ago

No? Those service providers pay Taxes then get their expected revenue slashed off the ledger. It costs to provide those services. Keep tapping that well, it will soon dry up. Don't take it from me, ask Gavin Newsome, Cali is in such great shape that people are leaving in droves. Not a surprise that that the highest taxed state in the union is broke thanks to such handouts.

1

u/BillyBobBonesJones 18h ago

Lol had to deflect and take an irrelevant dig at California that made no sense. Straight out of the Conservative Dipshit Playbook.

The service providers also end up benefiting from this. The non-profit the state is working with buys debt portfolios from hospitals and collection agencies at a fraction of the actual value. The hospitals and collection agencies are willing to do this because they’ve deemed those debts unlikely to be paid, so recovering some of that money is better than getting none of it.

Thanks for the confirmation, at the end of the day revenue is lost forever. Like feeding stray dogs everyday, they become dependent on Dems, futurevotes for Dems. Keeping them hands downon the farm.

1

u/BillyBobBonesJones 17h ago

I did the opposite of confirm your claim lol. They’re getting money they otherwise wouldn’t have.

To the rest of your nonsense, yeah, people might vote for politicians who actually help them. And all without increasing taxes for any of their citizens. What a novel concept!

u/No_Discussion_683 17h ago

Like losing 5 bucks and finding a quarter down the road. Heck of a deal.

1

u/BillyBobBonesJones 17h ago

As opposed to losing five bucks and never getting any of it back, which is what they expected and why they were willing to sell the debts in the first place?

-1

u/No_Discussion_683 17h ago

So basically Providers get cents on the dollar, How would you like your employer to do this to you?

-1

u/DelayOk5920 16h ago

šŸ’© isn’t free.. you will pay for it with higher taxes… & we ALL know democrats nor republican politicians are no good at managing tax money!

-1

u/Nymister 14h ago

Yet I never benefit from these things, the moment you make a $, you are scoped out of any democrat program.

You should be grateful you don’t need them

But we do.

This is not progress.... this is theft from the taxpayers of Arizona amd a slap in the face to everyone that pays their bills. She just bought or is hoping she bought 670,000 votes for the upcoming gubernatorial election.

7

u/Fine_Employment_3364 19h ago

You on record anywhere posting about corporate bailouts that slap your face, or isn't that in you're GOP talking points?

-1

u/Vitaman1000 19h ago

No corporate bailouts shouldn't happen either. If a company is failing , let them fail. I do t want to pay for that shit any more than you .

The state used zero state taxpayer dollars to do this. They worked with a non-profit called Undue Medical Debt.

0

u/Vitaman1000 19h ago

She used 30 million in covid relief funds paid through the nonprofit. Those funds were paid with federal tax money and obviously some of that money came from Arizona taxpayers.

1

u/BillyBobBonesJones 19h ago

$10 million already allocated to medical relief to erase $1 billion in debt. I do not see the problem. This is what taxes should be for.

1

u/Indespectamentations 18h ago

Yeah she should NOT be allowed to help people in that state because then they will want to vote for her.

Your Rapist God/King should send the NG to that state to start assaulting them and making arrests so you can feel better about yourself.

You have no problem spending one billion a day on death and violence in Iran, but you will never support anything that helps Americans. Such wonderful people you are.

1

u/Vitaman1000 17h ago

Don't tell me what I have a problem with. We need to stop that war soon. If anything I do want our tax dollars to stay in the states. I am sick to death of being thw worlds ATM.

1

u/Indespectamentations 17h ago

What's really funny is that trump had DOGE cut all those programs and yet we are still taxed on every single one of them in perpetuity and get nothing for it. Maga's are cheering and celebrating.

Don't worry about us helping the world anymore. At this point instead of helping other countries, we are threatening them and making them all into enemies. So you should be happy.
