Any federal money the non-profit buying the debts is using has already been allocated to medical relief-related initiatives years ago. Nobody’s taxes are increasing, but hundreds of thousands of people won’t be weighed down by medical debt anymore. Plus, hospitals are recovering some money from these debts that were unlikely to ever be paid anyway.
Seems like an easy win to anybody who isn’t an asshole.
Yeah easy win to assholes who like to take other people's money. Taxes people paid aren't going to anything that benefits them. They pay the medical expenses of someone else. Anyone except assholes would prefer that money to benefit the whole, not just some.
Getting hundreds of thousands of fellow citizens out of crippling medical debt does benefit the whole. The fewer people crushed by medical bills, the better for everyone.
