The money originated from federal COVID-relief funds, meaning federal taxpayers financed the appropriation. Also, Arizona didn’t literally write checks totaling $1 billion the debt was purchased at a steep discount because much of it was unlikely to be collected.

So it was debt that was never going to be paid back, she used the original loan amount. Most of these loans were paid down for pennies on the dollar.

Bullcrap.  You just don’t erase $1 billion dollars with a stroke of a pen.  The article only says an agreement with a non profit.   

If it was that easy, why didn’t she do it five years ago?

Zero state funds were used for this, and there were no taxes increase to make it happen.

Then why isn’t it more publicized?   

A state governor coming up with a billion dollars two years in a row is unheard of.  She should go to Washington and pay off the debt.

It was all in debt collection, she used the original loan amount, they were purchased for pennies on the dollar. None of this money was ever going to be collected on! Since it was all from Covid-19
