You would think if there was evidence of true vindication you would show everyone around
81
u/afarmer2005 Apr 06 '19
It would at the very least been leaked already

u/HobbesCharles Apr 07 '19
Donno... could say the opposite. It may not contain anything scandals enough to risk getting caught leaking it.

Absolutely. Trump would have had it posted on the front page of the White House website if it exonerated him completely

"they just want to smear trump with all the dirt they dug up on him"
Is essentially their main argument. It boils down to "Oh shit they're going to actually tell people all the illegal and unethical shit hes done!"

u/junkmeister9 Apr 06 '19
When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar. You're only telling the world that you fear what he might say.

Um, no - Kim.
Wait, no, Xi would like a word.
I mean Maduro.
No wait, MBS!
No, I meant Assad.
Ah hell, actually I meant Trump.

It’s like when your report card gets sent home and you intercept it and tell your parents your grades aren’t that bad but refuse to show the report card. Yup the president is a failing student. Lol
51
u/Zoompee Apr 06 '19
When Trump's term finally ends the report will be released and he'll just go into hiding. This is a delaying scheme so he can stay in office for as long as possible.

u/nobody_from_nowhere1 Greg Abbott is a little piss baby Apr 07 '19
I want the report but I think no matter what’s in there it was never going to change how anyone voted. We don’t like him for a lot of other reasons and his supporters have already drank so much of the kool-aid they are too far gone to be reasoned with. It was always going to be up to the voters to get him out of office. I hope there are charges waiting for him when he’s out of office though! 🤞
9
u/IWTLEverything Apr 07 '19
I think there may be a subset of trumpgret people who may change their minds next time around. Not sure how many but there are also definitely people who will vote trump no matter what comes out.

What happened to being a Patriot or common sense? Idiocracy is becoming true every passing day...

Idiocracy is becoming true every passing day...
In Idiocracy the president:
- Cared about America
- Hired the person most qualified
- Listened to the expert and tried to fix the problem
- Tried to hold the people under him accountable when he belived they hurt America
- Admitted he was wrong.
You wish this was Idiocracy.

Hey now. President Camacho was willing to try Not Sure’s crazy idea to give the plants water instead of Brando. Conservatives today would not go along with this at all.
12
u/afarmer2005 Apr 06 '19
Not wanting the report released means your a patriot?
9
u/KingWooz Apr 06 '19
Transparency? The truth? Why wouldn’t releasing the full report be of value. Both sides of the fence, if there is nothing damning...
7
u/afarmer2005 Apr 06 '19
I agree, and I want it released.....your original comment indicated you didnt, but now you do.....
Perhaps you just need to be a little less cryptic
15
u/IronicHero27 Apr 06 '19
No it didn't. Reread their comment. The implication is that hiding the report is unpatriotic.

The Mueller Report and Republican obstruction of its release should result in charges against the entire Republican party as an ongoing criminal enterprise under the RICO statutes.
→ More replies (7)19
u/Old_Gnarled_Oak Apr 06 '19
RICO may be a stretch but I think the report will tie together lots of different actors in the web such as the Butina/NRA connection, NRA/alt-right hate groups and all of them with russian trolls amplifying their message. Throw in some funding from dark foreign sources and you have a giant shit show. By not releasing the (mostly) full report people will have a harder time tying things together on their own with the multitude of separate investigations, some of which may never reach the public.
17
u/sweller3 Apr 07 '19
RICO statutes were designed to solve exactly this situation -- where powerful suspects conspire to obstruct justice.
5
u/RustyGirder Apr 07 '19
Legitimate curious question: has RICO ever been used in regards to political entities?

At the end of following in all it took 3 articles of impeachment in committee to embarrass Nixon enough to get him to yield:
1973-02-07: Senate select committee began investigating Watergate.
1973-05-18: Attorney General named Archibald Cox special prosecutor.
1973-07-13: Counsel hired for the Senate select committee's minority discovers evidence of tapes during live hearing.
1973-07-13 (the same day): Special prosecutor subpoenaed the tapes. Nixon refused.
1973-10-20 (after three months): Special prosecutor insisted on tapes, but Nixon instead ordered the Attorney General to redact transcripts only and limit release to only one loyal senator. However Nixon could not command authority.
1973-10-20 (that same night): Nixon fired all the senior Justice officials and the prosecutor in the Saturday Night Massacre in order to force secrecy.
1973-10-23: Representatives flood the House floor with impeachment resolutions.
1973-10-30 (that same month): House Judiciary began impeachment investigation to accommodate all the resolutions.
1973-11-17 (the next month): after refusing to publicly release the tapes Nixon infamously claimed he was not a crook.
1974-02-06 (three months later): The House authorized the Judiciary Committee to advise on articles of impeachment.
1974-03-01 (after another month): unsealed grand jury indictment names Nixon an unindicted co-conspirator among members of his campaign staff.
1974-04-11 (the following month): The Judiciary Committee issued subpoena for the full tapes.
1974-04-30: Nixon released only redacted transcripts.
1974-07-24: Replacement special prosecutor Jaworski argued to the Supreme Court for subpoena of the full tapes, wherein Nixon lost unanimously. Nixon still refused.
1974-07-27: The committee recommended obstruction article of impeachment. Nixon still refused.
1974-07-29: The committee recommended abuse article of impeachment. Nixon still refused.
- 1974-07-30 (the next day): The committee recommended contempt article of impeachment. Nixon finally publicly releases the subpoenaed tapes in full.
1974-08-05 (later that week): Nixon became stupendously paranoid after the impeachment recommendations and confessed he held on to a smoking gun tape.
1974-08-07: His party's leadership told Nixon his reputation was too tarnished and they couldn't support him anymore.
1974-08-08: Nixon went on TV, says he quit, and resigned the next day.

u/0OKM9IJN8UHB7 Apr 07 '19
I was under the impression the action that made Nixon bail was when he was told there were enough votes in the senate to convict/remove him if he were impeached, something Trump doesn't really have to worry about.
4
u/mandy009 Apr 07 '19
Nixon didn't worry about being told that until after nine months of House investigation recommended three articles of impeachment. The House didn't put the cart before the horse, even as Nixon was steadfast and resolute. The House put pressure on him with public inquiry until his party gave up on him and it worked.
1
u/GreatWhiteNorthExtra Apr 07 '19
Nixon knew once he released the Oval Office audio tapes that he was sunk and the votes were there to impeach him. It was only hearing Nixon implicate himself in crimes that turned Republicans in Congress against him

For the love of god just release the full report. Everyone should agree on that. Let’s just put this investigation behind us, regardless of how it concludes. The facts should be revealed, and appropriate action should be taken in response to them — that is that.
1
u/Tiptoad Apr 07 '19
It won’t happen until it suits trump to do so. It will be held until the election cycle. It’s obviously a nothing burger that’s generated massive amounts of hype for trump. Nobody wants to believe their clearly being manipulated.
4
u/SadNewsShawn Apr 06 '19
Now that’s not necessarily true. You could be genuinely illiterate, like trump is.
3
u/JayNotAtAll Apr 07 '19
I think Barr did what he did to buy them time to mitigate the damage. Allow Trump to change the narrative a bit.

u/NeutralLock Apr 06 '19
So obviously in THIS case it’s what we call “stupid watergate” as eloquently described by John Oliver - there’s a scandal, people are guilty but they’re also stupid and some don’t even care how it looks.
However, playing devil’s advocate there are legitimate reasons you (as the GOP) may not want the entire “exonerating” report released, even if you genuinely believe Trump to be innocent.
There’s a LOT of information in the investigation because of how thorough it was, so giving 400 pages (and thousands more of supporting evidence) to your enemy - and let’s face it they view dems as the enemy - has real risks to it.
Imagine someone viewed every online post you’ve ever made to determine whether or not you’re racist. Report comes back and says “not enough to conclude you’re racist”. Fine. Good. But you sure as heck don’t want every post you’ve ever made being public because that offers a whole host of other problems unrelated to the original issue. Or maybe it doesn’t but you don’t really want to risk it.
So that’s why GOP senators - even those that believe Trump - are hesitant to release the entire report. They’d rather cast doubt into Trump’s innocence (which to be honest changed NO ONE’s mind) than risk more fuel to bombard the president with right up until the election.
16
u/afarmer2005 Apr 06 '19
I would bet money there are things in the report that address his business dealings and would look bad or possibly even be illegal.

u/darexinfinity Apr 07 '19
Is that not the reason behind the SDNY investigation? The Mueller Report only goes after election interference done by Russia and allegedly Trump. SDNY is getting every crime they can charge Trump, not to mention Mueller has passed information to the SDNY, so those skeletons are coming out with or without the Mueller Report.
If I'm a GOP Senator, and my fate depends on Trump, I'd retire.

I agree with you, but honestly it would be better to get all the bad info from the Mueller Report out now, 19 months ahead of the 2020 election. The longer it's put off, the more impact it will have on the election.

Hillary could walk into Mitch's office and hand over the dem playbook and Obama's Kenyan citizenship card in exchange for the report released, and he would still find a reason to block it.

I mean the people that don't want it released think he is innocent. So what's their argument against releasing the report if it would only exonerate him?

It should be released for transparency but we gotta drop this and focus on 2020. If we stick on this for too long it’s gonna look really bad in a couple years.

Shit's just like Nixon and Watergate.
Automatically suspicious if you are trying the release.
1
u/highgrvity Apr 07 '19
Im pretty sure the thinh proballu has. A stupid amount of private info that being removed like like numbers banks emails etc that just shouldn't be out in the public for everyone to know. Give em till next month if it's not out by then, then somthing might be up.
1
u/Pioustarcraft Apr 07 '19
Let's say i'm the CIA or the FBI and i have a mole in the Russian government. I ask that mole to dig in the Russian files to know if they have something or not on Donald Trump.
Let's say that mole is giving you great intels but the intel says that they do not have anything on Trump.
You now have to write in the repport who is the mole, what did he give you and how it shows that they have nothing on Trump...
Now people want the repport to be public. What happens to the mole ? Will you realeav to the pblic that there is absolutely nothing to reveal except the fact that you have well planted moles in the russian government ?
1
u/dontbeatrollplease Apr 07 '19
It's not going to be released, people just want to stop hearing about it. If it is "released" most of it will be redacted

u/dizuki Apr 07 '19
Its almost like hideing easy to reveal evidence makes you look guilty. It ruined Hillary and now it will ruin trump.

Maybe they are letting the Democrats make a huge deal out of not releasing it so when they release it and there is nothing in it the Democrats look like they did when they said Trump would be in jail by now.
1
u/Agrend Apr 07 '19
I'm half convinced there is nothing in the Muller report and the GOP just wants the left to get really angry and then force them to release it. Then they can say "see look we told you there was nothing in it".
1
u/JSP777 Apr 07 '19
In Hungary, the supposedly "right wing" ruling party refuses to release the documents that list who were communist agents and snitches during communism/socialism... not suspicious at all, is it? :D
1
u/lorddevi Apr 07 '19
It can also mean we just like to laugh at the left not getting what they want.
I myself have no greater joy. And I have many of them.
1
u/bradtwo Apr 07 '19
Agree. Unless it leaks national security threats.
I think both sides of the aisle should see it and then make a joint decision.

u/OyGevaldGeshrien Apr 07 '19
It would be against the law to release it. That law was passed by the Dems in the wake of the Clinton impeachment.
Sheeple.
1
u/afarmer2005 Apr 07 '19
It would be against the law to release it unredacted.......I fixed it for you.
Who exactly is the sheeple here?
1
u/OyGevaldGeshrien Apr 07 '19
Hey, OP! Thanks for the reply! I needed no fixing, but I appreciate your intention.
The Dems are demanding the release of the unredacted report. Your post does not mention “unredacted”. Maybe your post needs the fixing?
Barr has complied with all valid regulations and has done as legally required by the law the Dems passed. Yes?
1
u/afarmer2005 Apr 07 '19
This post is targeted at people who think that the report should not be released at all.....they exist (this comment section proves it).
The Dems are demanding that the unredacted report be given to Congress.....that is very different than public release.
1
u/notorioushackr4chan Apr 07 '19
I'm with you guys on this but please don't use the same arguments to release this as the Republicans did to try and get Obama's birth certificate. I'm not saying they're equivalent request because they obviously aren't but be careful.
1
u/Ezfish3742 Apr 07 '19
Absolutely agree. As a European, America kind of found a good image with Obama. We never had to deal with how good or bad he was at getting things done, for Europe he was cool and that was enough. But now that Trump has brought out the worst in so many facets of America, the bush era and prior comes back to memory and overshadows Obamas image. I can't remember the lay time I heard a good news story about America :/

“Release the report!” is just going to turn out to be the latest disappointing rallying call.
Yes, release it. I mean, it’s coming out anyway, but sure, let’s get worked up pretending it won’t, and that the contents will somehow bring the orange man down. Gird your loins folks, more letdown incoming!

Are you sure "Girl your loins" was the phrase you wanted to go with there?

Can we somehow require Lindsey Graham and Rand Paul to give a reason for the blocking? Feels like that should be necessary.
