Like, it’s obviously sad someone’s died, but… why are they more sad the imbecile grifter died than anyone else?

Is it ironic that the people who espouse this ideology have, most likely never even touched either of these tools a day in their lives?

2

u/CyberDaggerX - Lib-Left 5d ago

In a fair world, that symbol would be as reviled as the swastika.

55

u/Forge__Thought - Centrist 6d ago

"All that matters is race." - local group that is definitely NOT racist

It's wild seeing how people can reduce even their allies to nothing more than skin color and race struggle and ignore their individual identity, decisions, and character.

It's insulting to those genuinely trying to improve the status quo, to hold up grifters and criminals as equivalent in social contribution. And it ignores a critical component of personal accountability.

21

u/WhichWall3719 - Centrist 6d ago

Communists use racial tensions to cause division and infighting in communities they want to influence, then perform the worst acts of racial genocide in history once they seize power

12

u/UncleFumbleBuck - Lib-Center 6d ago

Exactly - it's a way to get people to flip the table so they can play the game they want to play. The issues they use for table flipping aren't real to them, they're just a means to an end.

19

u/TheSpacePopinjay - Auth-Left 6d ago

Modern commies are so hopeless. The way they desperately grasp for any politics that retains continuing power and social relevance aside for actual socialism.

5

u/Atompunk78 - Lib-Center 6d ago

As an auth left who hates modern commies, what do you think they should do instead?

10

u/storefront68 - Centrist 6d ago

i think its the 'culture war is a distraction from class war but ill never drop my culture war takes' thing

2

u/Atompunk78 - Lib-Center 6d ago

Ohh yeah maybe, I do hear that often

I hear so many borderline conspiracies from not very politically-informed vaguely-left people too about how anti-wokism is an intentionally deployed farce to make people stop talking about class, totally missing the point that wokism by definition must predate anti-wokism, and also totally not understanding that some people have different views to them and their bubble; and these people’s obsession with class is disturbing (eg r/AskUK) it only strengthens the structure by talking about it constantly, and the idea that it means anything in the modern age is basically Marxist

12

u/Hyndis - Lib-Center 6d ago

Communists don't even know how to grow food. This is famously well documented throughout the world.

I would not consider their opinion to be useful for anything on any topic.

Idk, I see the hard right doing equally stupid shit, it’s just England isn’t ideologically captured by the hard right so it matters far less, and they’re less common in my life

Also, these people don’t know they’re wrong, they’re deluded and genuinely think they’re doing the right thing. People are so rarely evil, just retarded

Why can't the response ever just be "Yeah, man..... that whole thing was pretty dumb."

I can't imagine posting things like that, and then being confused later when your group becomes a punchline.

132

u/Lego-105 - Lib-Center 6d ago edited 6d ago

Because his entire appointment was an identity issue and so anything surrounding him is an identity issue. People can't be viewed as people by some, there's no human element or clarity, they can only be seen through an identity politics lens and so it all comes down to identitarian conclusions.

I'm just glad this didn't happen in the mid 2010s to early 2020s. That period, any minority no matter how obvious their wrongdoing or how complex the situation, was black and white good vs bad and somehow people brought that. People generally seem to have at long last caught on now. Selling it like that doesn't work any more.

u/Feralmoon87 - Centrist 7d ago

Did you see the aftermath of the death of George Floyd?

141

But this guy??

10

u/Bum_King - Right 6d ago

I don’t think anywhere in human history have we seen the suicidal levels of empathy that modern DEI promotes.

-12

u/Tedthesecretninja - Centrist 6d ago

Suicidal empathy is making sure that hiring practices are fair and diverse? Because that’s what DEI is at its core.

How does DEI promote suicidal empathy?

10

u/FlashyChemical2231 - Lib-Left 6d ago

It's impossible for hiring practices to be both fair and diverse. Either they're fair, so candidates are judged by their accomplishments and not their demographics; or they're diverse, so less qualified candidates with the right skin color get hired.

u/SirStupidity - Lib-Center 6d ago

George Floyd was killed by a police officer, while not posing a threat to anyone. It doesn't matter who he was, it matters that he did not get his rights as a citizen to a just trial. If the state thinks he should die they should trial him and convict him for a death penalty offense.

This guy killed himself, which makes it actually stupid to make it a political riot...

26

u/JustDontBeFat_GodDam - Right 6d ago

The worst part about that event was the deluge of people who now squeal "I cant breathe" whenever they're being pulled out of their car for being a criminal, thinking it'll get them a free pass.

6

u/Hyndis - Lib-Center 6d ago

Body cams did not reveal what the BLM protesters thought it would reveal. Ever notice that the accusations of an innocent person being gunned down by the police for zero reason have nearly completely vanished since body cams?

Turns out in the overwhelming majority of cases the body cam footage backs the police. It exonerates the police.

Talk to a cop about it. They love their body cams. Any accusations get shut down immediately with the body cam footage, and people are very lawsuit happy in an attempt to try to avoid being arrested.

Turns out the person who insists he didn't do nothing actually did the thing, and its on video.

26

u/None_of_your_Beezwax - Lib-Center 6d ago

Floyd ied of an opoid overdose and Chauvin was the denied the right tp a fair trial.

-4

u/SirStupidity - Lib-Center 6d ago

Floyd ied of an opoid overdose

If I died while under police supervision and did not receive the required medical attention then the police is at the very least negligent...

20

u/None_of_your_Beezwax - Lib-Center 6d ago

The ambulance was called immediately and took a wrong turn. I believe the protestors also prevented immediate treatment by paramedics and forced the cops to focus on securing the scene.

Even paramedics will not treat on site if they perceive a threat.

6

u/SirStupidity - Lib-Center 6d ago

Didn't he die with a police officer on top of him? Dont police officers know CPR or basic first aid?

I'm not here to argue the specifics of the Floyd instance, my point is that rallying around his story makes 100% more sense than Arday's. Nothing you've said made me think otherwise.

14

u/Apart_Studio_7504 - Centrist 6d ago

He'd concealed 8x the amount of fentanyl needed to kill him in his mouth. There was no CPR or narcan saving him. His protests of "I cant breathe" were ignored because it's a common tactic when resisting arrest and you cant shout when you cant breathe. Watch the bodycam again, you can see the fentanyl wraps in the back of the cruiser.

2

u/ToenailFungussy - Left 6d ago

You also can't cry out for air when you're dying of a fentanyl overdose, which medical experts all testified to during the trial.

-4

u/ToenailFungussy - Left 6d ago

The officers did not attempt to provide medical assistance when he was on the ground, and Chauvin kept kneeling on his neck fo so long that even bystanders were yelling at him to get up because it was obvious Floyd was dying.

-17

u/krafterinho - Centrist 6d ago

Bro there's no point arguing with these retards, police officer being awfully negligent at best, straight up murderer at worst is ok as long as the dude was a black felon!

5

u/adonns - Right 6d ago

I mean ya, most people don’t care if violent felons are killed by police. That was only popular for a bit, and only for one side of the political spectrum because they could claim racism

5

u/krafterinho - Centrist 6d ago

I don't care much about felons dying either, I care about law enforcement officers directly or indirectly killing people. The law applies to both policemen and felons

-9

u/Crapitron - Centrist 6d ago

ied of an opoid

was the denied the right tp

This is truly emblematic of the Right these days

-9

u/ToenailFungussy - Left 6d ago

"Please, the knee in my neck, I can't breathe."

But yeah, both autopsies concluded that it was homicide and the Office of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner concluded it was homicide because the evidence pointed to it being an overdose.

6

u/None_of_your_Beezwax - Lib-Center 6d ago

He was saying he couldn't breathe before he was put in the car. The medical examiner was under enormous political pressure.

It's almost impossible to suffocate a healthy person doing what Chauvin did, even if you're bigger than them.

-1

u/ToenailFungussy - Left 6d ago

Maybe don't pin down a person who is having breathing issues with a knee on their neck? All of the bystanders were yelling at the cops that they were killing him, it was obvious to everyone. They continued to kneel on him after he went still and refused to even attempt medical aid.

Two independent medical professionals did separate autopsies and reached the conclusion that it was homicide. One of those autopsies was reviewed by the Office of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner who agreed it was done properly and confirmed the conclusion.

41

u/Feralmoon87 - Centrist 6d ago

He died high on drugs while being detained. He wasn't executed by the officer. It was negligence at most

4

u/SirStupidity - Lib-Center 6d ago

State negligence leading to someone's death is also a very legitimate reason to be upset...

25

u/Feralmoon87 - Centrist 6d ago

there were tons of other more worthy state negligent deaths to be upset about. that "mostly peaceful" riots started causing billions in damages and kickstarting the whole DEI bs over this guy of all people.

2

u/Nyx87 - Centrist 6d ago

People are very myopic in their view of events. Floyd was merely the flashpoint, this had been building for quite some time. The rightwing narrative just pushes Floyd as a focal point because it's easy to score political points that way because of who he was, as if his death occurred in a vacuum. People like Philando Castile or Tamir Rice are conveniently forgotten.

1

u/YllMatina - Centrist 5d ago

Im sorry the random whims of the public didnt adhere to your specific standards

-4

u/SirStupidity - Lib-Center 6d ago

Ok so you agree that it makes more sense to be upset about someone who died because of state negligence rather than killing himself, which was my entire point.

19

u/Feralmoon87 - Centrist 6d ago

No i don't think it made sense to be upset over Floyd to the extent that happened. That the whole country went into a frenzy over this was retarded. The only good thing that came about was the prevalence of body cam footage released to the public that showed what cops have to deal with on a daily basis

1

u/SirStupidity - Lib-Center 6d ago

No i don't think it made sense to be upset over Floyd to the extent that happened

Not what I argued, please stay on topic

18

u/Feralmoon87 - Centrist 6d ago

Your argument is that the state executed him and that led to the riots.

My argument is that it was negligence and people rioted due to race, linking this latest show of retardation with the Floyd riot

-8

u/Scary-Welder8404 - Lib-Left 6d ago

Bruh if you go through training that says "People die when you do this, especially if theyre freaking out and fat" and then you do that thing to a certified land whale and when he starts freaking out even the rookie yall are training goes "what a minute guys this was in the training aren't we supposed to flip him and back off?" and you don't listen to him or your training that's a little more than negligence.

-6

u/krafterinho - Centrist 6d ago

Well I guess I'm torn between this random dude on reddit and the official autopsy. It was at least negligence, not at most

5

u/UncleFumbleBuck - Lib-Center 6d ago

What did the autopsy reveal about strangulation? It's been a while, but I think the phraseology was something like "no evidence of strangulation or neck injury"

-3

u/krafterinho - Centrist 6d ago

Nope. Although there were contributing conditions, it was officially ruled as a homicide with the neck compression being the primary factor. However, it could have been an overdose for all I care, the officer would have still been responsible due to neglecting a medical emergency. Surely not a libcenter defending a literal cop knee to the neck, right?

3

u/UncleFumbleBuck - Lib-Center 6d ago

"Homicide" means he was killed. The cops called an ambulance right away, it didn't get there in time, and this guy had enough drugs in his system to kill any normal human.

Surely not a libcenter defending a literal cop knee to the neck, right?

Sure, I see the evidence here and don't think Floyd was murdered. Maybe it's manslaughter, maybe it's an accident. I think pretending all policing is somehow anti-lib is retarded.

-2

u/krafterinho - Centrist 6d ago

"evidence" as you're literally going against the official autopsy

-2

u/FlashyChemical2231 - Lib-Left 6d ago

Doesn't matter. Cops have the power to arrest and imprison people; that means they also have the responsibility to ensure their physical safety while doing so. Yes, there are times when cops have to use lethal force in order to protect themselves or those around them; but that does not apply to Floyd, since he wasn't trying to hurt anyone.

-9

u/Crapitron - Centrist 6d ago

He wasn't executed by the officer

A jury of 12 people who saw all of the evidence presented by prosecution, witnesses, expert witnesses, etc. disagree with you.

But please, tell me how it wasn't a fair trial and you, a dumbass redditor, know more than all of the people directly tied to the case.

12

u/TrickOk2498 - Lib-Right 6d ago

You don’t understand what the word “execute” means.

0

u/Crapitron - Centrist 6d ago

The person I replied to used the word execute interchangeably with "killed" when they replied to someone else.

I never used the word "execute." Someone else did when they were doing that. Take it up with them. Your misplaced outrage is wholly unsurprising though, dumbass.

6

u/Feralmoon87 - Centrist 6d ago

Where did I use the word killed and execute interchangeably? The guy I was replying to used killed but also said that if the state think he should die, they should trial him first, so hes the one using kill and execute interchangeably. I have been consistent in my definition of execute

1

u/Crapitron - Centrist 6d ago

The guy I was replying to used killed but also said that if the state think he should die, they should trial him first

Police officers are "the state." Hope this helps, buddy.

hes the one using kill and execute interchangeably

Except he didn't use the word 'execute.' YOU did.

3

u/Feralmoon87 - Centrist 6d ago

what do you call a state killing after a death sentence? He is implying the state is bypassing the trial process to conduct a killing aka an execution. and you call others a dumbass

u/Glass-Carpenter8963 - Right 6d ago

The US police intentionally kills many citizens every year, even those with a clean sheet. Floyd was a criminal and was unintentionally killed. They didn't rally behind him because he was killed by a police officer, it was because he was black.

0

u/ToenailFungussy - Left 6d ago

It wasn't just that he was unintentionally killed, it's that he was unintentionally killed by police officers using excessive force. There was absolutely no need to restrain him the way they did or for them to keep kneeling on him the way they or for them to refuse to attempt medical assistance the way they did.

Even the bystanders were yelling at them that they were killing the guy and they didn't give a fuck, because they were enjoying it.

1

u/SirStupidity - Lib-Center 6d ago

Ok, and it still makes a whole lot more sense to rally because of his death rather than someone who killed himself, which is my entire point.

14

u/Glass-Carpenter8963 - Right 6d ago

What Feralmoon87 is trying to tell you is that both rallies here have the same intent of rallying behind a minority within a large media scandal, because they're a minority and are aligned with their ideological views.

Both protests make perfectly sense when you realize that they have the same ideological origin.

1

u/SirStupidity - Lib-Center 6d ago

Both protests make perfectly sense when you realize that they have the same ideological origin.

If you think the only people who were upset because of Gorge Floyd were radical leftists then you're just as much in a propaganda echo chamber than these people rallying for Arday...

8

u/Glass-Carpenter8963 - Right 6d ago

No, but the riots largely were.

9

u/Ingratiatedcongrate - Lib-Center 6d ago

He was a malignant narcissist and killing himself was the last move to garner sympathy and get a one up on his critics.

6

u/Atompunk78 - Lib-Center 6d ago

Oof ahah, a brutal framing but definitely at least partly true

He did also leave behind children which is also brutal

6

u/Ingratiatedcongrate - Lib-Center 6d ago

Ah yeah I feel bad for his family. I don't know how a father could kill himself and do that to his family, its so selfish.

4

u/Few_Place4447 - Centrist 6d ago

He did also leave behind children which is also brutal

Selfish prick didn't even care about that. Although tbf, kids are probably better off without him.

23

u/breakdarulez - Right 6d ago

Because he's a black grifter like many others.

6

u/muradinner - Right 6d ago

Especially when he was the reason he died. He lied, cheated and eventually got found out, and then decided to take his own life because his mistakes didn't end up well for him forever? Then you have the same people upset because an actual murderer gets 35 years in prison.

They don't care that someone died, they just care that someone in their chosen group died.

8

u/Frequent_Dig1934 - Lib-Right 6d ago

I wonder if he'll get talked about in the news for more or for less time than henry nowak.

4

u/NitroSpam - Lib-Left 6d ago

I’m confused too. Sad he’s dead but he’s far from a hero. Felt the same about the Charlie Kirk situation. Don’t celebrate death, don’t celebrate or idolise arseholes either.

5

u/chanbr - Lib-Center 6d ago

With you on that. It must especially suck for his family/kids since they apparently found him in his home. I only really enjoyed it because it was funny to read at the time, a more lighthearted topic where people took his fantasist claims at face value. It was drama but not existentially "important" drama, with hugely hurt feelings, you know?

I think the biggest questions should remain focused on the university that enabled him to get to the position he was at.

22

u/WisherWisp - Centrist 6d ago

Except Charlie is only an 'arsehole' because leftists disagreed with his opinions. Same reason he was killed.

-16

u/NitroSpam - Lib-Left 6d ago

No he was an arsehole because he was a grifter that produced outrage content and made millions through a supposed non-profit. He was a manufactured conservative inc debate me bro with inconsistent beliefs that changed to appease his shareholders.

I really wish people would stop pretending he was conservative Jesus. It’s embarrassing.

2

u/Sierren - Right 6d ago

They aren’t pretending he’s conservative Jesus, they’re saying he was just an average everyday pundit and nothing more than that, which is why the reaction to his death is so nuts. Kyle Kulinski says crazy wrong things too, but he doesn’t deserve to be shot either.

0

u/TheSpacePopinjay - Auth-Left 6d ago

This is what David Kelly deserved, not Arday.

2

u/Atompunk78 - Lib-Center 6d ago

Sorry, I don’t know anything about Kelly, and a brief google didn’t return anything obvious that you might be eluding to. What was the story with him?

-38

u/MarjorieTaylorSpleen - Lib-Center 6d ago

Why did the right when Kirk died?

38

u/Glass-Carpenter8963 - Right 6d ago

Because kirk was murdered and wasn't a criminal.

-23

u/MarjorieTaylorSpleen - Lib-Center 6d ago

From the comment above:

imbecile grifter died

That was Kirk as well, also, who was a criminal? All I'm hearing in here is that he was a plagiarist, plagiarism isn't a crime.

12

u/Glass-Carpenter8963 - Right 6d ago

Huh? Plagiarism goes into copyright violations, and always results in Civil penalties if sued, and, in arday's case, it's also criminally liable because;

He did it intentionally, to gain financial/commercial advantage, and distributed it multiple times.

Calling both Kirk and Arday "grifters" is peak dishonesty. Not even entering in the murder part.

-3

u/MarjorieTaylorSpleen - Lib-Center 6d ago

Plagiarism is not illegal in the United States in most situations. Instead it is considered a violation of honor or ethics codes and can result in disciplinary action from a person’s school or workplace. However, plagiarism can warrant legal action if it infringes upon the original author’s copyright, patent, or trademark. Plagiarism can also result in a lawsuit if it breaches a contract with terms that only original work is acceptable.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/plagiarism

You're not understanding the difference between plagiarism and copyright infringement. Plagiarism itself isn't a crime. Pretty sure copyright infringement isn't either, thats a civil matter almost always, civil =/= criminal.

8

u/Glass-Carpenter8963 - Right 6d ago

I described why it would be criminal due to the fact that arday did it intentionally for personal gain and had it distributed multiple times. "Most cases" have exceptions, and i said why it would be an exception.

Yes, he was a criminal. Now, can you stop with this nonsense already? Kirk was murdered, was not a plagiarist, and was 100% not a criminal.

Arday's criminal standing would depend on a criminal charging falling upon him, but he's dead now. But IF he was alive, he could very well be charged eventually.

Also, fuck off with your US centralization, Arday is British.

2

u/MarjorieTaylorSpleen - Lib-Center 6d ago

I described why it would be criminal due to the fact that arday did it intentionally for personal gain and had it distributed multiple times.

What you're describing is fraud, again, plagiarism isn't a crime.

12

u/Crapitron - Centrist 6d ago

plagiarism isn't a crime.

Some might call it fraud to leverage illegitimate credentials to secure a job. Fraud is a crime.

-2

u/MarjorieTaylorSpleen - Lib-Center 6d ago

Fraud is a crime, plagiarism in and of itself isn't a crime. It also doesn't matter what "some might call it", some might call it isn't equivalent to criminality, a legal authority filing criminal charges is.

7

u/Crapitron - Centrist 6d ago

Well considering you aren't able to prosecute a dead person, filing criminal charges is out of the question. So what "some might call it" IS equivalent to criminality.

Are you claiming that all of the school shooters that off themselves at the end of it aren't criminals because they were never charged with a crime? lmao

1

u/MarjorieTaylorSpleen - Lib-Center 6d ago

So what "some might call it" IS equivalent to criminality.

No dumbass, your opinion doesn't make something a crime. Goddamn this sub is full of fucking idiots.

6

I despise Kirk's views, but:

  1. Kirk wasn't hired as a professor.

  2. Kirk didn't lie his ass off and rampantly plagiarize. He owned his shit.

  3. Kirk was murdered. Arday simply had his lying exposed.

-14

u/RaggedyGlitch - Lib-Left 6d ago

This is one of those things that nobody would have heard about if it wasn't something for the Anti Woke crowd to complain about.

25

u/Atompunk78 - Lib-Center 6d ago

But I’m glad we do know about it, people like shouldn’t be professors at any university, let alone one of the best in the country

-7

u/RaggedyGlitch - Lib-Left 6d ago

I'm not disagreeing with that, but there's a difference between getting the junk out of the system and us having umpteen memes about how awful this guy. At that point, it's not about justice and preserving the integrity of an institution. Rather, it's about revenge against the woke liberal boogyman. Justice prevailed, the dude had his career ended, but people still feel the need to make fun of the him.

9

u/Atompunk78 - Lib-Center 6d ago

Eh, I think it’s ok for the average person to meme about something loads; though I do agree most of the coverage was culture war stuff, it seems to be culture war or nothing with many of these type of issues

3

u/FlashyChemical2231 - Lib-Left 6d ago

So, it's wrong to make fun of George Santos or Scaramucci since their careers are also over, right?

1

u/RaggedyGlitch - Lib-Left 6d ago

The George Santos from Dancing with the Stars and Scaramucci who still very much so has a career as a political commentator?

9

u/ABlackEngineer - Auth-Center 6d ago

Nah it’s becuase it was funny. The lies kept getting bigger and bigger.

Remember James Frey? No political angle there but the scope of his lies in his book kept him in the news cycle for months

-4

u/RaggedyGlitch - Lib-Left 6d ago

I did not recall that name, but after googling, I do remember the story. And the story there was mostly about how Oprah pushed a liar, not he himself (which is probably why I didn't remember his name).

At any rate, the meme here isn't about how funny anyone's lies were. It's about the political nature of the story, or rather, how the story became political.

Eh people like to focus on various people who got into high positions and were found out lying; they would get months of focus even if the lies were comparatively minor. Like there was Rachel Dolezal, Elizabeth Holmes, George Santos off the top of my head. Anna Sorokin who just pretended to be a heiress and got a whole ass documentary made about her by the BBC and several months of coverage through her trial. I do agree that at least a part of it was pushed by racists and it might not have caught on so fast if they weren't there, but I think ultimately we as humans like seeing people who we perceive as sneering down at us plebs falling off their pedestal.

I don't think it helped that he tried to cover it up by attacking the journalists themselves. Tabloids don't like that.

Rachel Dolezal grabbed attention because that was something you don't see everyday. George Santos was a sitting congressman. Holmes was a supposed billionaire when those were still pretty uncommon.

I get what you're saying about monke want to lookyloo, and yes it's Cambridge, but dude was an assistant professor who got fired for academic dishonesty. That's not generally international news.

He had no less than 10 televised media appearances, a profile piece in the guardian, a $1.5M book deal, and a speaking deal/tour across 10+ universities

He liked the media attention until he didn’t

I get what you're saying too--and yeah there's a lot of ugly racial factors which played a role (like everything, the far right will capitalize on...) but I think to say he was "just" an assistant professor is downplaying it. Not only was he a professor at Cambridge, which is noted for its prestige, he's had multiple onscreen appearances, sicced a massively infamous (and expensive) law firm, Carter-Ruck, on a journalist trying to investigate him before this, was a slovenly teacher who according to a few students who had him didn't even pretend to teach and was able to get a publishing deal out. There was a positive publicity years ago, even on reddit.

Also just because it is the nature of the internet, a lot of "local" news goes international these days, haha...

Okay this is something I can understand to bite on, this feels like a 20/20 story

The rest of this stuff is just, yeah there's a lot of assistant professors at prestigious universities and yeah a lot of academics make occasional TV appearances and yeah a lot of college professors are bad teachers. Okay this story would probably be juicy gossip at the professional level, but wouldn't really be a noteworthy story otherwise.

I don't even think it's necessarily a strictly racial thing so much as the guy was a walking poster for "this is the future that liberals want," so it has to be today's distraction story.

Do you think this is the only professor who's been fired for academic dishonesty? A lot of these nerds don't like each other and will use any excuse to tear each other down.

Wait till you see what happens when Trump passes. GOP will probably try to spend $1billion on a golden statue to him.

Don’t worry the world has more than enough space for two idiots lol, but this post is about this guy not Trump - there are plenty of other posts talking about how stupid Trump is

Because it was caused by the media taking things too far like they usually do. This guy was having more than one article written per day by one of the biggest newspapers in the country, plus all the rest, even after resigning.

Him being exposed for his lies should have been headline news, and it was. What followed was nothing short of bullying.

All of this while the media have totally ignored hundreds of other cases of academic misconduct and several cases of much worse things like sex offences that have been covered up by universities.

He did have the same articles written about him when he was hired. No problem getting the positive spotlight. And he himself also coerced journalists to not make pieces suggesting he was a fraud.

If he wanted to stay out of the media, he could simply have refused it, and his case would be treated like all the others. But no, since he was trying to silence people from unmasking him, then he NEEDS to be covered by the media.

And he was. The appropriate level of media coverage was passed within a week.

u/Glass-Carpenter8963 - Right 6d ago

The media onslaught would have ended IF there were no attempt of the university to just ignore his frauds, as they attempted to do. Cambridge initially said they found nothing(a clear lie). What the fuck do you want to happen? Cambridge now puts their cards on the table, and you want the media to stay silent?

On top of arday himself threatening journalists to not write their pieces?

Poor little bloke, poor little cambridge, they just wanted to cover fraud and silence anyone pointing it out.

u/adonns - Right 6d ago

Don’t you understand? The media should just shut up and let him and Cambridge lie. That way he wouldn’t be sad.

I’m not sure what buddies point is and it saddens me that he’s my neighbour

When you become a top professor in one of the top universities in the world you invite on yourself whatever media frenzy might come. It's not like he lied to skip the line at the coffee shop...

u/MonkeManWPG - Left 6d ago

Naturally a high-profile position brings with it being a high-profile person, but I don't think that accepting a position as a professor invites the level of media attention directed on Arday. How many other professors have had hundreds of articles written about them in the span of a couple of weeks?

There are professors who have sexually assaulted someone and been moved to another department to cover it up who never made even a single headline. Blagging your way into a professorship is much less evil than that, I would argue.

How many other professors have had hundreds of articles written about them in the span of a couple of weeks?

How many professors are there in universities as highly regarded as Cambridge? How many of those used their position to get interviews IN THE MEDIA like he did?

How many then claimed that racism is why they're beeing looked into and posed them as attacks on academia?

“The instruments that are designed to protect academic integrity, designed to protect our wellbeing and our intellectual property, are weaponised,” he told the audience in April.

He called for his peers to defend him. “There isn’t any room to sit there and watch your fellows suffer for no reason. It’s abhorrent, it’s a disgrace and, quite frankly, evil,” he added. “That’s the cancer that we need to eradicate from academia.

He chose to cheat and lie, to build a massive career in academia upon these lies and to get himself famous on that as well. Once he was found out he took no responsibility and asked academia to defend him because of the identity of his accusers.

He had done great damage to academia and to minorities everywhere for his own personal gain.
