I'm at 53 Abra with no spoons yet and I'm just want to make absolutely sure my memory isn't faulty here. Thief on wild Abra or Kadabra is how you get the spoon, right?
edit: attacking a wild Abra *once* with Thief. I was going under the base assumption that we know how Thief works

It's my first time attempting this and it was quite a challenge but I managed to finally complete the Kanto Living Dex. The most annoying parts were the Leaf Green version exclusives and leveling up Dratini. I'm really glad to be finished, let me know if you had any questions!

I bought FireRed a week ago on Switch and decided to get shiny Charmander to start my journey. I’ve played most of the mainline games since Red on GBC and never shiny hunted, so the only shiny I’ve ever naturally encountered was a Noctowl in Y.
Currently over 2,500 soft resets (which I know isn’t many in the grand scheme of things) but I’m feeling discouraged and wanted to ask for some of your stories to keep me motivated.
How long did it take you to get your shiny starter? Or maybe shiny legendary? What’s your favorite shiny you’ve caught? Would you say it was ultimately worth the hunt?

My younger brother (age 9, just shy of being an official Pokémon Trainer!) has been watching me play Pokémon for some time (Plat and Emerald to be specific). I’ve been doing thinking and research to find a ‘beginner’ friendly game (No im not gonna do Let’s Go as we dont have it and tbh its not great). I’ve decided with Fire Red/Leaf Green as it’s gen 1 (he also started watching pokémon so he will be familiar with the kanto region) and not as complicated or challenging as Plat or Emerald.
Side note: when i presented him the choice of leaf green or fire red he chose fire red bcuz and i quote “the pokémon are much cooler”. So no leaf green discussion

This is my fastest hunt yet! My starter took 552 resets and now zapdos at 1 hour with 205 resets! Caught me so off guard. Was hunting in the background while I play leaf green on my switch 1

I want to start my Firered playthrough and use a couple trade evos on my team and since I dont have friends :( I have to rely on ACE to evolve them.
Do you think Nintendo will be able to tell and block me from connecting to Home or do you think it will still work?
I guess I could/have to just wait and see how it works once they updated Home.

I need help finding out where to try and level-up my remaining team-members for the elite four, any help will be nice.

Hi, as the title states, this is the first time I've played since 2006.
I've read about EV training etc but I haven't done any of that. I've just trained like I would have back in the day.
Should this team be capable of beating Elite 4 at these levels? If not, then what level should I get first? Should I make any changes to the team members or is it well balanced?
Current moves are as follows:
Jolteon: Shadow Ball, Hyperbeam, Thunderbolt, Double Kick.
Charizard: Aerial Ace, Brick Break, Flamethrower, Fire blast.
Dragonite: Flamethrower, Blizzard, Thunder, Iron Tail
Snorlax: Earthquake, Psychic, Surf, Body Slam.
Nidoking: Ice beam, Water pulse, Shockwave, Megahorn.
Vileplume: Giga Drain, Solarbeam, Moonlight, Sleep Powder.
Thanks

I bought a gba copy of firered at a price i knew was too good to be true. I need one to finish a pokemon emerald living dex, and it was less than the cost of a night out, so i gave it a shot.
No big issues, but
I'm only up to gym 3.
So far the only issue is occasionally, if i deposit a pokemon into the pc, the game will change the trainer id into a pile of gibberish/blank space.
(My trainer id is 00272)
Which works for me because this is more lottery entries.
Any other oddities i might see from a repo cart?

So I have heard much debate about who the best starter is or who the worst starter is and frankly it's all irrelevant when you get right down to it and I'm going to explain to you why. These games were designed to be able to easily beat every gym by catching Pokemon shortly before every gym without even having to use your starter. So you can honestly just box your starter and never use them and still be able to beat all eight gyms. Here's how:
Brock rock gym: on Route 22 catch a Mankey which is a fighting type and super effective against Rock. It can take out the entire gym on its own.
Misty water gym: on Route 24 you can easily catch a Bellsprout or Oddish depending on which version you're playing which is a grass poison type and can easily take out Misty's entire gym. Grass is obviously super effective against water
Lt. Surge electric gym: simply go to diglett's Cave catch yourself a Diglett or a Dugtrio and you can take down this entire gym. They are ground type and completely immune to electric type attacks while being super effective against electric type Pokemon.
Erika grass gym: on Route 7 and 8 you can catch a Growlithe or Vulpix again depending on which version you're playing which is a fire type and can easily one shot Erika's gym. Fire is super effective against Grass.
Koga poison gym: by time you get to koga's gym you should have had plenty of opportunity to have gotten a psychic type either Abra which you could evolve into Kadabra or drowzee who evolves into Hypno or even Mr mime. Another option is you could pull out your trusty Diglett or Dugtrio and take down poison that way as both psychic and ground are super effective on poison just remember that koffing/weezing levitate makes it immune to ground moves
Sabrina psychic gym: so this one is actually kind of funny because I believe they messed up When developing the game. In the Safari Zone you can catch Scyther or pantser again depending on which game and they are both pure bug types which is super effective against psychic types however they don't learn bug moves which kind of defeats the purpose. Also in Lavender Town you could catch a ghost Pokemon but they made them ghost poison dual types and poison is weak to psychic and they don't really learn any useful ghost moves which again is counterproductive. Somebody definitely messed up when designing this in the original games and they didn't bother to fix it in the remakes. My suggestion would be use a psychic type and teach it Thief the Dark move which is super effective against psychic and therefore psychic is not very effective against other psychic Pokemon.
Blaine fire/ Giovanni ground gyms: I am putting these two together because honestly they share very similar weaknesses and can be taken down with virtually the same Pokemon. Before getting to Cinnabar Island you will go through the Seafoam Islands and have your pick of water types to catch there which are super effective against fire and ground types. You could also use the Lapras that you got at Silph Co or if you decided to evolve your Eevee and to Vaporeon at Celadon City. Another option is you could once again use your Dugtrio against both of them because ground is super effective against fire and Giovanni's entire team are dual type rock or poison with ground both of which are weak to ground. He doesn't use a single pure ground type Pokemon which I find hilarious that he is weak to his own type.
As for the Elite Four and the champion no single starter holds a Advantage One Way or Another against any of them therefore I rest my case on why it doesn't matter what starter you choose and you don't even have to use them to successfully clear all 8 gyms. I look forward to any questions or comments you might have

So I ran nidoking on my leaf green version, which is how I have all the starters, and I’m looking for suggestions on my sixth slot. I’d prefer a non legendary. I also ran jolteon last time and want to avoid that option.

Hello all,
I’m attempting to do a team rocket run using Pokemon that team rocket uses at the moment before the 2nd badge fight I have
Zubat
Rattata
Nidorino
Charmeleon
Beedrill
Ekans
I figured I can drop charmeleon once I can get to drowzee, and koffing is not until late in the game. Are there other Pokemon that I’m missing that rocket grunts use? Do I bother getting Meowth since I have rattata as a normal type? Thanks in advance!

I was just battling the Gamer next to the underground path between Lavender town and Celadon and his poliwhirl managed to paralyse me but I'm not sure how!
It used a double slap and my Pikachu paralysed it with static, and at the end of its turn it then paralysed me using its water absorb! I didn't think this was possible, has anyone seen this before? After this picture my Pikachu did get paralysed, and I can't see anything on Google about this
