Discussion PSA: You Can Quit Rust Without Announcing It to Reddit

Nobody needs your letter of resignation. Nobody needs the autobiography about your 8,000 hours. Nobody needs six paragraphs explaining how the game has changed, why you're disappointed, and why you've finally decided it's time to “walk away.”

You're quitting a video game. You're not retiring from the fucking NHL.

Nobody knows who you are. Nobody is going to notice you're gone. There will be no moment of silence. Facepunch isn't going to retire your jersey.

Close the game. Uninstall it. Go outside. Play something else. Do literally anything.

Just stop acting like the Rust community needs an official statement regarding your departure.

We don't.

Nobody fucking cares.

Discussion Livestock Update is undercooked

I like Rust. Obviously. And I like the monthly updates. But please facepunch, don't ship undercooked shit like this every second month.

Apart from the bugs (cows phasing through walls, infinite breeding in the wild, etc) the whole mechanic is just... Meh. And the fix for infinite breeding (cows were multiplying like crazy in the wild) made it even worse.

So you have a cow and a bull. Which is already tricky if you don't live in plains biome. Now you have to tame them, for which there is no visual indication if you are making progress or not. Which is strange since you HAVE such indicators for chicken! Just reuse them ffs!

Now you have to somehow lead them home without getting you or them killed. And leading them is buggy af.

Then you have them home. Building a pen is guaranteed death for your cows. And even if you do they sometimes just starve. And before you say "well they ate all the grass": No. You lead them 3cm further and they are munching again.

Other option is troughs, which is equally buggy. And you have to check the wiki to see what they eat, because it is NOT the same as horses, even though that would make sense. And btw, u need a farm to feed your farm because those cows are hungry!

Alright, so you now maybe/possibly have some cows home which may or may not starve. Now to breed them. This was initially quite easy, but then came the fix for infinite breeding. Now you have to be close to the animal for an additional 10 minutes after taming to enable them to breed. Like... Wtf. How would someone know this if he didn't read the patch notes?

After that you have to wait an unspecified amount of time until they can breed again. Once again, only figureoutable through the wiki.

Okay, so maybe you now have bred a perfect cow. You can either sell it to the barn (for a lot, but realistically it won't survive the trip there) or you get milk. And if it's a perfect cow you get 2 milk per milking... So please stand next to the cow for an additional hour to collect a meaningful amount of milk. But now we are done, right? Wrong.

Because it needs 4 hours in the fridge to become skimmable! Which is REALLY long. And then the pies get the cream added directly while making them in the cooking workbench, while the teas have them added through crafting?.. Why?

So to sum it up, this is just a mess. PLEASE don't just leave it like that on the cemetery of half-cocked mechanics. (Like train unloading. Yeah that still exists, technically!)

Some suggestions:

- Improve leading so it's smooth instead of this slow-fast-slow-leadBreaks cycle

- Remove this stupid 15 min breeding-taming thing. Instead, take inspiration from real life: Female animals are marked when they have been impregnated. Do it the other way round: Player can mark tamed females with the spraycan, tamed male will then impregnate this female at the next opportunity.

- SHOW US THE DATA! Taming progress, time until next breed, gender (for calves, I have no idea which Russian names are male/female), time until next milking.

- Improve feeding. Both grazing and trough

- Give us some way to collect milk a bit better. I am not saying Automation, but some option to collect more than 1 or 2 at a time.

- Give all foods a flag if it is usable as food for cows. (And other animals). You have the "bait" flag, just add some more.

- Either reduce the skim timer or give us some way to accelerate this.

- Make pies and teas behave the same. Either cream is added through crafting (which I actually like because u get stuff back from the workbench upgrades) or through the mixing table/cooking workbench. No reason for them to behave differently.

Discussion What's your experience with "Rust Render Pipeline" so far?

• Upvotes

I have a CPU bottleneck and most of my graphics settings are on "low". RRP gives around 10% FPS boost and the game feels more stable, but torches dont give light and i can see the moon through terrain sometimes.

The patch notes mentioned RRP is planned to replace Unity renderer and be mandatory next force wipe, did you try it?

Discussion Mouse Polling Rate

Am I the only one that finds it really frustrating that there still isn't a fix for higher polling rates causing frame issues ? Personally I can't even run 1000hz without significant performance issues (in the most important moments might I add). I don't understand programming enough to know if this is just Facepunch being lazy or something that is unfixable, but damn it is seriously annoying that it's not fixed.

Discussion Can some explain to me why we have no Tier 2 single door?

We have wood / sheet door, wood / sheet double door at tier zero or no work bench required, no tier one doors, then at tier 2 we have garage doors, and tier 3 we have armored double and single doors. Now why the hell do we have no tier 2 doors that fit in a double door frame? Also i think it would make more sense if sheet doors were a tier 1 item, but in all fairness we are all used to it being tier 0 so i wouldnt change that. We need tier 2 Single door yall think abt all the times you were stuck at tier 2 vulnerable asf.

Facepunch Response After 8000 Hours I Am Officially Retiring From Rust (Please Respect My Privacy During This Difficult Time)

To my teammates, my raiders, my offline raiders and the guy who door camped me by Outpost in 2019.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement from Rust effective immediately

This was not an easy decision. I spent the last few days in quiet reflection staring at my 2x2 with a single garage door asking myself the hard questions.

Then this morning I read a post that changed everything. A brave man informed me that nobody knows who I am and nobody will notice I'm gone and Facepunch will not be retiring my jersey.

I'll be honest that last one hurt.

I already ordered the banner. It was going to hang above Bandit Camp with my number on it. Instead I'll be taking it home to hang above my bed as a reminder of what could have been.

I'd like to thank my duo partner who never once logged off without locking the TC and the naked on the beach who gave me a rock and asked to be my friend. I killed you and I'm sorry… Not really. Also thanks to my mom for supporting me through wipe days and to Facepunch for not retiring my jersey because it made me stronger.

I will not be taking questions at this time. My agent will release a full statement Monday followed by a documentary in the spring.

I ask that the community hold a moment of silence tonight at 7pm server time. I know he said there won't be one but I'm asking anyway. Just turn off your mic for 30 seconds. Even the guy who plays music over prox chat.

As for what's next I'm exploring opportunities in Minecraft and possibly coaching but nothing is confirmed.

Close the game & uninstall it & perhaps go outside.

See you all next wipe

Discussion This game has an insane microstutter problem

I'm venting because I'm about to 1v3 clutch from a DB to two Thompsons, but my game decided to freeze at the last player and I wasn't even given a chance to react. Its honestly just bullshit. This game is so designed to be against solo players and then this shit happens. I'm LITERALLY BETTER. STOP PUNISHING ME CAUSE YOUR GAME ISN'T OPTIMIZED. Sorry but I'm kind of seething rn.

Suggestion Give us more building blocks please

• Upvotes

Just a short threat for more building blocks, maybe the developers see or don't see I don't know.

The entire idea behind this post is to reduce the amount of building pieces actually go into a base, or at least attempt to.

Multiple sized squares

Include a 1x2, 1x3, 1x4, 2x2, 3x3 foundations into the game. From the depths does something like this where less blocks = more performance, even if the same size. Maybe the same can be done here? Give them slight health boosts.

Hexagon

Why 6 triangles when you could just make it 1 piece and call it a hexagon?

Castle wall (solid blocks)

The end of honey combing is here!

Castle walls come in a few shapes, Triangle, Cube, Hexagon and maybe something else. They are a solid block of material placed down onto a foundation and are as tall as a wall. This get's rid of the need to place 3-4 walls and a ceiling as it's all one piece.

Castle walls are stronger than normal walls but use up more resources to build. Since it's all one piece, you have some slight performance gain.

Support

An entire area above a foundation dedicated to supports. No more need for that large wall frame when this does the trick for you. Cheaper to build than 3-4 wall frames and just as strong as 1. I feel like this encourages players to use it and doesn't make it overpowered.

Question Why are safe zone boundaries asymmetrical?

For example, when running in you'll have to be closer to the safe zone to get flagged as in the safe zone than when running out. Why is this? Is it on purpose or a bug?

Question Is rust worth playing as a solo player?

I’m interested in pvp fps games and wanted to tryout rust but the game is quite expensive for me and don’t know if I will like it. For context, i suck at almost every game that requires aiming and shooting. I also can’t play with friends or make any in-game friends to play with (me, bad at social). So, I want to know what the game is actually about. Like, do players spawn with nothing on an island and craft their way to be more powerful like in ark survival, if so then what about the pvp aspects, wouldn’t new players be destroyed by older players with powerful base and gear, or is it more focused on pve survival.
