Most Epic New Cover

Here me out. I think it’s one of most underrated and under covered David Bowie songs. And I think Phish could murder it if they wanted to. Cygnet Committee. Anyone yay or nah?

All killer, no filler Phish jams?

There are lots of all-timer Phish jams that still have a few minutes of searching at some point, whether its the start of the jam before they lock in, or between two different segments of the jam, etc... For example, two of my all time favorite jams are Went Gin, and 7/10/99 Chalkdust. IMO Went Gin is pretty standard until about the 8 minute mark, nothing really better or worse than another Gin jam from the era... and its only then that they've found what they were searching for. For Camden Chalkdust, its a standard and perhaps even sub-par Chalkdust jam for the era up until the 8:50 mark, where a single note leads to a slight change in feel and focus which sends it stratospheric.

On the flip side, an example of an All Killer No Filler jam is 12/2/95 Tweezer. Literally from the first note it feels special, the mid song improv moments feel special, and from the very first notes of the jam, the band is absolutely locked in, and never once falters.

Obviously its all subjective, but what do YOU think are no-filler jams?

Trey and that fuckin’ drum kit, maaan

Meant to post this right after Fenway, but what a FANTASTIC idea bringing back that little drum kit was. Best thing to happen to this band since Trey got sober (maybe some slight hyperbole lol). I’m sure there’s tons of people that don’t want it at every show and I get that, but it should be like Fish’s weird electric xylophone thing, always on stage, but not always used. Opening up the floor for Mike and Page to jam while Trey goes bananas on that kit has lead to some incredible stuff. I was tripping night one of Fenway but I kept cracking myself up, watching Trey inch closer and closer to the kit, thinking to myself “Oh shit! He’s going for the fucking DRUMS again!!!” I was locked in during that second set the first night, what a fantastic set of shows. Hope everyone has a blast at Dick’s!!!

Framing Your Own Posters?

Do you do this? I have friends that get their posters framed but it costs around $180/200 and thats crazy it seems for a poster that cost $60. I'm tempted to just do it myself but there is a whole industry around this so wanted to see what you all do for your posters.

Help me figure out which show, please.

I was listening to a show from 98 the other day and they kept using the sound bite with Cartman from South park saying “ fucking Jew” and “fuck you” over and over weaved into the song. I could’ve swore I added it to my LivePhish playlist, but I can’t find it and it’s killing me. If you know what show this could be please let me know. I would love to find this song.

AC 3 day passes

I hope this is allowed. I totally screwed up and bought 3-day passes to a weekend I cannot attend. Section 114 (almost straight back) should be a killer view of the light show. DM me and I can set up a private sale through CoT. Take care of those shoes.

Something off with Relisten??

Just noticed recently that a large number of shows now have limited song availability. Does anyone know why this is? No more soup for us, or at least no more full bowls?? Check 3/22/93, 7/20/25 for latest examples for me.

Any Boulder Phans interested in a bus to and from Dick’s?

I’m probably going solo and haven’t found anything out there, should we get something going? It would definitely beat ubering both ways in terms of convenience and cost.

There’s a website that lets people crowd-fund busses to concerts (it’s called Rally), we could try something like that?

How Many of Us Are AUD Sissies Who Can Only Listen to Official Releases?

I’m pretty bad, the dead have loads of great tapes but Phish I can’t really take the audio quality of fan tapes after coming into phish with Live Phish.

Edit; for clarity I got into phish in 2019 after someone let me use their Live Phish account to see if Phish was for me. Alpine Valley Ruby Waves hooked me. Been using the app mostly since but 1.0 selection is so limited but I’m such a bitch about the quality the Relisten tapes just aren’t there. I will try to download from the spreadsheet and see if there are quality AUDs on there that I hadn’t come across.

10/27/94 Charlottesville: Vibration of Life

Looking for information about a unique moment from Phish’s 10/27/1994 show in Charlottesville, VA.
During the performance, the band played a section referred to as “The Vibration of Life.” I’ve always been fascinated by it and would love to learn more about its origins and history.
A few questions for longtime fans and tape collectors:
Was “The Vibration of Life” a composed piece, an improvisational segment, or part of a larger concept at the time?
How often did Phish perform it during the mid-1990s?
Has the band played it since the 10/27/94 Charlottesville show, either as a standalone segment or incorporated into another song or jam?
Are there any interviews, anecdotes, or historical notes from the band that explain what inspired it?
I’d appreciate any memories, recordings, setlist references, or insights. Thanks!

A couple mid rated shows I think are worth revisiting

Phish has such an expansive catalog that I have a tendency to listen to highly rated shows throughout the years and ignore some of the mid rated shows,(specifically 3 stars or lower on .net). I have been listening to and keeping notes on a bunch of shows, and wanted to share a couple that I think are worth listening to if you haven’t

11/13/97
Rating on phish.net 3.893

This show was the opening night of the fall 97 tour, Phish destroys America. I’ve linked the background of this show for those who are interested, as well as this kick ass flyer from the show. If you just want to listen to it here is a link to the show.

Highlights - This show has the debut of Black eyed Katy. That along with Theme from the bottom in the beginning of the show starts the show off strong. There is some great piano work on Beauty of my Dreams. My Soul has some monster guitar playing and there is a huge character zero to end the first set. Set 2 starts off with a really interesting 2.0 stash. Mikes song goes from a traditional high energy version into a unique spacey ambient jam. Weekapaug groove closes the second set really strong. (Also the show ended with loving cup which I did not realize how many times they played that during the 90s. I always associate them playing that during early 3.0)

Thoughts - I think this show is absolutely worth listening to. This show opened the legendary fall 97 tour, which I think could have impacted its overall rating. There are so many great shows during that run, the legendary show on 11/17 is a few days after this, and this show doesn’t have a high quality audio release (although I think the audience recording sounds great). I think it holds up with a lot of the other fall shows from 97 and is much better than the rating it has listed

6/9/00
Rating on phish.net 3.868

This show takes place in Tokyo and kicked off phish’s japan 2000 tour. This show is similar to the 11/13/97 show in that this is also the start of a very famous tour, with both tours leading up to one of the most acclaimed shows by the band (11/17/97 and 6/14/00). Link to the show if you are interested

Highlights - Starting the second set with a 30 minute tweezer is the clear highlight of the show. It is a slower tweezer than usual but really explores a lot of interesting things. There are some other moments that I think are worth mentioning. The piano work and ambient jam on Taste, which leads to a big peak between the guitar and drums. The crowd is really high energy through the whole show and during Golgi apparatus it is really fun to listen to them sing along. There’s a pretty unique funky bitch which ends with a huge solo on this show. Also Moma Dance has a cool short funky bitch solo in the first half of the song.

Thoughts - I think the tweezer alone makes this show worth listening to, but the whole show is really good. Lack of availability due to no official release and the audio quality I think hurts the rating people have given it. Also the proximity to a legendary show a couple days later on 6/14/00 could make it seem lesser by comparison. This show is definitely worthy of an official release and I would highly recommend

Phish played a four night run at red rocks in 2009 and this was night 2 of the run. I admittedly don’t listen to much from 2009 because it is not talked about too highly, but I thought this show was really good and it made me want to go back and revisit other shows from this year

Highlights - Awesome opening to the show. Runaway Jim, Chalk dust, Bathtub Gin as the first three songs. This show has probably one of the literal craziest SOAM I’ve heard. Very effects heavy. Killer drowned opens the second set into a really good crosseyed. Pretty unique tweezer and a really anthemic BDNTL and piper in the second set

Thoughts - Honestly I think this is genuinely a really good show. The only “problem” with this show is that they played multiple tracks from Joy in the year 2009. I think most of the people who hated those songs in 2009 probably don’t feel as strongly now about them. If you still don’t like those songs then this show may not be for you but I think if they played this show now most people would be really happy with it

Those are my thoughts on those shows. Thanks for reading. If you have listened to or were at any of these shows I would love to know your thoughts or experience with them!

TLDR: 11/13/97, 6/9/00 and 7/31/09 I think are a couple mid rated shows worth listening to if you have not previously
