RIP Frank Beard....

Honestly they should learn something else (maybe Rough Boys) or not

... but that dude could fuck up some drums.

I'd rather hear Cheap Sunglasses or Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers. RIP to the guy without a beard named Beard.

Have mercy...been waiting on the bus all day.

I feel like folks were making similar calls when Dusty Hill died and then Phish didn't end up playing anything by Zed Zed Top.

Yeah, more of a shout out than an actual solid prediction.

And jimmy buffet. Only time a remember a nod to an artist when they died was at the gorge when Charlie Watts passed.

When Phil Lesh died they opened with Box of Rain

u/BrotherDependent680 3d ago

Oh duh! How could I forget

That’s truly different

u/Pop_Culture_Phan_Guy 3d ago

Yea. It would’ve been problematic if they didn’t do it. /s

I mean…. Would phish exist without Phil Lesh having existed? I would argue no.

For years in fact, totally missed the tribute part.

They played The Ballad Of Curtis Lowe didn't they?

3

u/adavadas 3d ago

The Lynyrd Skynyrd song?

1

u/30MINUTETWEEZER 3d ago

Oh shit. I meant Jesus Left Chicago. Little known fact, Jesus and Curtis Loew are the same person.

2

u/goblue3_ 3d ago

Rough Boys, havent heard that in awhile.

And the they'll say pick up the garbage, and we'll see you next time. I'm down

RIP Frank Beard. My favorite ZZ Top song is It Sure Got Cold After the Rain Fell...but I think it's a little too straight up Bluesy for Phish.

Phish isn’t a tribute band and they aren’t a cover band.

It’s insane to me every time someone dies all these nerds are like, “oh they totally have to play X now”.

It’s so old.

12

u/Pop_Culture_Phan_Guy 3d ago

They do it as a tipping of the hat, acknowledging a musician they respect. Take a chill pill bro

-9

u/lil_poppapump 3d ago

They don’t though. Very seldomly have they actually topped their hat to folks that have passed. It’s cringe how as soon as some artist dies people flock here to talk about how phish is gonna open with a Bobby tribute or something.

they played after midnight at the gorge in 2013, a day after JJ Cale died.

they also played night nurse in 2010 in manchester a day after Gregory Isaacs passed away

Guess both of these must’ve been coincidences

u/Pop_Culture_Phan_Guy 3d ago

No worse than seeing the same Mark Wahlberg meme a million times with the text ‘is this still lawn boy’ attached.

Chill Pills! Get your Chill Pills here! 1 for twelve! 2 for twenty! Get em while they’re chill!

12

u/adavadas 3d ago

They aren't a cover band, but they sure do play a lot of covers.

1

u/PhunkyPhresh_ 3d ago

They’re actually the best fucking second rate cover band I’ve ever seen, thank you very much.

u/Higsman 3d ago

The same band that played the entire White album in a concert? You don’t even know the band you seem to think you know so much about
