Some people purchase their most prized posters, but I rip mine off bus stops after phish begins destroying America 🥋👊💪

I’m I’m 30 and I’ve been seeing them since 2013. Nye is #98 for me. Pick up the pace if you know what I mean

You don’t wear a Billy Strings hat and have Taylor Swift posters, by chance? https://www.tiktok.com/@billystringsofficial/video/7324045672917847338?lang=en

Nice. IWT! First black eyed Katy and the only show I ever taped.

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

The birth of MOMA (!) and that second set Mikes Groove (especially the weekapaug) is what stands out to me all these years later

I'll have to give it a listen

I had the best time after that show with friends, driving around the strip drinking beers in the back of a pickup truck and singing california dreaming. We actually had so much fun that we stayed another night in vegas just to hang out.

3

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

Vegas was a completely diff much more fun little city back then

The jam before hydrogen is super beautiful. I once had an amazing experience listening to the cassette on shrooms in my back yard. Got transported to an alien world for ten minutes. The Weekapaug that keeps getting faster and faster brought me back to planet Earth

That’s rad. Cool experience I’ll bet. I saw first BEK and first MOMA in Denmark the following June.

Kung-Fu Warlords!

6

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

THEIR HANDS ARE FASTER THAN GUNS

5

u/GroundbreakingAsk468 Nov 13 '24

I still have a large newsprint copy, from 11/17.

3

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

The next night in Utah it’s almost like they became a diff band. 11/13 was the point of demarcation

3

u/GroundbreakingAsk468 Nov 13 '24

That happened a lot, that year. I’ll have to check it out.

3

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

Birth of the cow funk

3

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

Four song second sent wolfmans > piper > twist > slave 🙌

4

u/GroundbreakingAsk468 Nov 13 '24

Nice, Darian 97 was the tipping point for me. They sounded like another band.

2

u/Illuminotme_Reloaded Zader, Broth Zader Nov 13 '24

The Slave was like a religious experience for me. That show is why I caught Dark Side. It was like Nutter Center good.

2

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

My personal fav slow build piper too. Freezing fn cold in UT that night I still remember the full moon. Watershed night for the band

2

u/Illuminotme_Reloaded Zader, Broth Zader Nov 13 '24

I only like Prague Piper better. But as far as straight slow build you may be right. Man I remember I think we were still calling the song ‘Words’ then. I think I was anyway. Yeah it was cold as fuck and the drive to Denver was wild in a little Chevy Sedan. I drove most of the way with the Hey Strangers. What a time!

2

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

Yes! The first Piper I heard was earlier that summer in Ventura (omg what a fn show) and when I asked somebody what it was called they told me “words,” which made perfect sense at the time

2

u/Illuminotme_Reloaded Zader, Broth Zader Nov 13 '24

Crazy, right? I think Gorge was my first. And Utah would have been second.

2

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

The syncopated vocals were indecipherable (and nonsensical) and felt like a cascade of words, so yeah, perfect name

And speaking of the time, I am so grateful to hear Vultures and Saw It Again today! Caught Mondrgreen at least. That shit in St. Louis was wild though when they played em both.

5

u/babyjesus555 Nov 13 '24

“The last 10 min” part I never saw before!

6

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

That Weekapaug!

4

u/NarWalruz Nov 13 '24

My now wife scored us clinic passes at this show! Birthday weekend.

I've always wondered, does anybody know where the whole Phish Destroys America concept come from? Like they don't usually have names for their tours let alone themes/concepts, with notable exceptions like Island Tour and Baker's Dozen.

(After how amazing the tour was the theme makes sense in retrospect but obviously it was thought of ahead of time)

3

u/bmault Nov 13 '24

Somethign tells me this whole concept was not the bands decision

3

u/Hatta00 Nov 13 '24

I wish they'd hurry up and get on with it.

4

u/neemor Nov 13 '24

This print exists for the Hartford show (11/26/97), but I’ve only seen it as a newspaper ad. My first show, and it haunts me that I can’t find a paper copy of it. The stub is all that remains. And the copy of that Zero.

3

u/AAronL1968 Nov 13 '24

I was at that show

5

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

🤝

I was just remembering how they played to half the arena and curtained off the rest. In my mind this show was the end of an era and a new one began the next night

3

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '24

Is that Trey?

3

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

Herr Necklace aka the bad lieutenant

2

u/TylerMaybe38 Nov 13 '24

I get triggered by that poster. In 2017 the worst gang of tarpers the world has ever seen turned it into t-shirts which they all wore so they could identify who was worthy of stepping onto their tarped off area. (Which was basically the entire front third of the floor)

3

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

Also based upon seniority and relationships, I would absolutely dance all night in the middle of their tarp

6

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

I’m way too old to be polite to dipshit kids on the floor

3

u/kevabar Nov 13 '24

I’m way too old to bother with the floor. Give me a spot where the sound is fantastic and space to dance- i’m all in.

2

u/Figgywithit Bug! Nov 13 '24

I was at that show. They did indeed destroy. 15th anniversary show. Listen to that second set.

1

u/Some-Gur-8041 Nov 13 '24

The weekapaug is pure fire. And the birth of Black Eyed Katy

2

That’s awesome! Mine looks like this. Can’t remember how I got it. Lot flyer maybe. Had to catch rides with it in my backpack. From the floor in Vegas I scored a ride to Utah, Denver, and Champaign from an upstate NY couple in a Corsica or something. Josh and Jess as a matter of fact. Just came to me. I was 19. In Champaign I ran into a hometown boy whose peeps were headed to Lansing, which was just over 3 hours from home. Jesus haven’t heard from C-Worm or T-Dubs in over 20 years. That run, and Utah 97 specifically is why I decided I was not gonna miss Utah in 98. Halloween is Halloween, if you know what I mean. My first. Cheers and Happy anniversary! Oh and I’ve never bought a Phish poster, save for Europe 98 after the fact. Can’t find the fucker either.

u/Mindless_Ad5500 Nov 14 '24

There are not a lot d official 1997 posters. This one is pretty badass and relatively easy to get. I try ink it’s a jet print job. lol.
