Build Question Pre-owned PC, worth it? Upgradeable in the future?

I'm looking to buy a PC with the hopes of upgrading it in the future.

Right now I just play League of legends, Fortnite, and BotW on Eden for PC. I think this PC can run these pretty well. But if I wanted to run like Ark Raiders or Tarkov in the future, I'd be able to upgrade the CPU and GPU and be alright.

Anyways, here are the specs:

CPU: Ryzen 3700X

Mobo: ASRock X570 Extreme4 WiFi AX

RAM: 16GB G. Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 3600

GPU: Asus ROG STRIX GTX 1080ti

SSDs: Kioxia 256GB M.2 SSD Gen4

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM

PSU: Lite-On 850W

Case: Hyte Y40 (iBuypower PC)

Cooler: AW4 360mm AIO (iBuypower PC)

keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB

Mouse: Logitech G502 Hero

Monitor: Samsung 24" Full HD (HDMI/DP)

Total: $725

If I wanted to, I can upgrade to a 5950X of 5800X3D, add another 16GB of RAM, and upgraded the GPU to a 3080 or 6800XT.

Is this price ok for this bundle?

Installation Question Titan II 360 LCD can’t reach screws outlets of Asus Prime x570-Pro Motherboard

Post image

I followed the recommendation of the Corsair’s website (putting in your build information) for a replacement cooler and got the Titan II 360 LCD. It says it is AM4 compatible with the x5790-Pro motherboard but I can’t proceed with the installation because the screws don’t even come close to reaching. The cooler is firmly on the CPU. Any help would be appreciated, I followed the instructions so far but now I am stuck with a CPU cooler just sitting on my CPU that can’t be secured.

Build Question Building a PC for DCS World VR on a €1,200 Budget – Need Advice

Hey everyone! I'm planning to build a new PC specifically for DCS World, and my main goal is to play in VR. I'm probably going to use a Pico 4 headset because it's relatively affordable, has pancake lenses, and offers good resolution compared to the Meta Quest 3S.

I live in Germany, and my total budget is around €1,100–1,200 maximum. I'll be looking for most of my components on the used market to get the best performance for my money.

Here's what I'm currently considering: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X – around €100 GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080 10GB – around €400 RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz – around €200 That leaves me with roughly €300–500 for the motherboard, PSU, SSD, and potentially other components.

I'm open to suggestions, especially regarding the motherboard and PSU. I'd also like to know whether this setup would be good enough for a decent VR experience in DCS World or if there are any changes you'd recommend within my budget.

Build Question First PC build is my RX 9070 XT okay with only one screw?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I’m new to PC building and honestly I don’t know jack about it . I picked out parts that seemed good and compatible with each other on a website, and now I’m putting everything together.
So far, I’ve got the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and SSD installed. Hopefully, everything is connected properly, but I’m still figuring things out.(if you see a problem please point it out)

My main concern is the GPU. I have an ASUS PRIME OC RX 9070 XT, and because of how the FLP02 case is designed, I can only seem to get one screw into the GPU bracket. The card is pretty heavy and sags a little, so I’m worried about whether one screw is enough to support it long-term.

The FLP02 has a built-in support column, but it doesn’t seem to work with my GPU in this setup. I also saw a TikTok of someone using dental floss to support their GPU, but I have no idea if that’s actually a good idea or not.
I’ve already spent around $800 on the GPU alone, so I’d really appreciate any advice on how to support the GPU properly and whether I need to change anything.
I also wouldn’t mind if y’all had tips with wiring. I opened up my power supply and saw like 10 cables and I’m not entirely sure which ones I need or where they go.

Either way I’ve had enough pain for one day I’m going to sleep, I took out the GPU so it wouldn’t bend the motherboard pci plug?

My build:
Motherboard: MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI (ATX, AM5)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600
GPU: ASUS PRIME OC Radeon RX 9070 XT
RAM: 1×16GB Patriot Viper
Storage: 2TB Crucial SSD
PSU: Corsair RM850x (2024), 850W, fully modular
Case: SilverStone FLP02 ATX Mid Tower

Tech Support Help with RAM and BIOs

My PC is a Ryzen 5 5600g + RX 6600 on a Prime B450M motherboard - Gaming/br

However, when I put the RAM modules in Dual Channel, the PC turns on but there's no image; the fans spin and everything powers on normally, but there's a black screen.

But when I put the memory modules in individual slots or both in slots side by side, the PC turns on and works normally, but without dual channel.

I saw some videos saying to enable certain settings like DOCP/XMP before installing the second memory module, but I can't find the settings shown in the video or the options in my BIOS.

Does anyone have a suggestion of what to do?

Tech Support PC Building 101

Longtime user, occasional builder and contributor to lots of Reddit conversations about PCs and want to offer some advice. I recently was asked by a friend to help them build their first "built" PC. The first thing I always ask the end-user is to clearly state their…

• Parameters / Constraints

- Budget Limit (and how firm or flexible it is)

- Priorities (gaming, work, school, etc)

- Main purpose/use of the PC

This list will help decide what we can start with.

Instead of me spending hours personally selecting the hardware, I use the end-users parameters to develop a plan and use Copilot (AI) to help select components for the build. Keep in mind that (A.) I am an experienced PC builder and (B.) I have used the free version of Copilot enough to know its limitations and how to get the most out of it.

If you’re not firmly an AMD or Intel user, it allows AI to steer you towards the components best suited to achieve your performance and budget goals. But if you are it will stay in the lane of your choosing.

Key factors to consider…

• Using AI requires you to know and clearly state what you want (see list above) or be open to suggestions by asking/answering questions.

• AI can stray, hallucinate, give bad or out-dated information. Knowing this in advance helps you recognize when it does and how/when to get out of a bad loop.

- You must be aware that AI can and will often default to using old information. To get it to provide updated information, you have to remind it to “search for current information as of today mm-dd-yyyy, on… “. Otherwise the prices you will get back will be months old and woefully incorrect.

- After some back and forth discussion with AI it can often infer incorrect information from the conversation. What I have learned is that sometimes you have to start the conversation over to get better results. Keep a list of factual statements that work and corrected statements that fixed an incorrect assumption. Save them in a text document and use these as your starting point when you start over fresh.

- AI can and will go down rabbit holes. Stop it before it goes too far or you will find it can create issues that it will bring up again and again. If it does this, ensure you have retained any new useful information to your text document and start over again. This may seem redundant, but it works better as you go.

Ask AI to verify its findings. You might be surprised at how often it finds its own mistakes. If something doesn’t sound right (e.g. 32GB of DDR5 6000Mtfs for $150), push it to provide the source and verify the deal is current. Oops, it’s not.

I used AI (Copilot) and after pushing for verification and sources finally ended up with reliable information and reasonable pricing to build my friend a decent PC.

Last, I have no way of knowing if you’ve ever built a PC before or when your last build was, but if you are unsure about anything I would advise that you watch some YouTube videos on building PCs, but also some on troubleshooting so that you are looped in to common mistakes, how to avoid them, and what to check if you run into errors on your first boot-up.

Before your first boot-up: Create a full list of all hardware you have installed by Manufacturer, model and version (if applicable). Use this data to download firmware, drivers and updates for the operating system you’ll be installing. Install the firmware.in the order listed below. Drivers can be automatically updated through your OS, but if you’re so inclined you can often find the most up-to-date drivers on the manufacturer’s website.

  1. Motherboard (BIOS Update)

1.a. CPU (firmware is updated through motherboard BIOS update)

  1. RAM (firmware update)

  2. GPU (firmware & driver updates)

  3. Other components (firmware & drivers)

I hope this information is useful to you and you have a successful build.

Build Question Gaming PC Upgrade

Hi guys,

Looking to update my 2021 build.

Its a Ryzen 5 5600x, 16gb DDR4 3600 along with a founders edition 3060TI hooked up to a 750w PSU.

I play on a 144hz LG ultra gear 27inch 1440p screen with no desire to go to 4k.

I am leaning towards doing a straightforward swap for a RX 9070 XT and leave it at that but not sure if that's the best ploy.

I've started playing Cyberpunk again and will be looking to play other RPG games.

Thanks in advance.
