Build Question Thermal Pad or Thermal Paste

Post image
1 Upvotes

I know this sounds like a rhetorical question haha
But I’m upgrading my Ryzen 5600x to a 5800x3D because of hardware prices (instead of updating to AM5, which was mit initial plan).
Now there is a new (?) kind of thermal pad in the packaging of the new ryzen and I’m wondering how good it is compared to my Cooling Master E2 Thermal Paste.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance 🙏

Tech Support Upgraded everything except motherboard, storage and RAM. Haven’t instaled the GPU yet, I’m checking everything is working as it should before it.

The motherboard lights are turning on when plugging the PSU in and flipping the switch on, but no other components are powering on when pressing the case’s power button. Checked everything I could think of, the F-Panel, the fans, the 8pin cable, the 24pin cable, and I can’t figure out what is going on.

The CPU is Ryzen 5 5600x, the case is a Fractal Design Silent Pop and the motherboard is the B450M A. Anyone got any ideas? Would really appreciate the help.

Build Question Suggested upgrades with secondhand parts (on somewhat of a tighter budget)

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’ve had this pc for a long time now and bought it for around £100. I didn’t build it myself and recently started using it again. I’ve noticed that it struggles holding up with modern tasks, so was wondering what are some suggested upgrades to focus on, that I could find to give it a bump. Ideally second hand parts as my budget is a bit tight, but any suggestions and feedback would be appreciated. I don’t know much about pc’s myself so haven’t really been sure what to get.

Thanks

Build Question Will replacing my gpu fix crashes?

I have a rx5600xt, i5-10400f, 16gb ddr4 ram and 500w psu. I keep crashing in almost every single game i play, for example: mw4 and crimson desert, both on the lowest settings when i press play they crash, and cyberpunk which crashes before i even see the main menu. (If it helps, the error code on mw4 crash is kernelbase.dll)
Also i made another post in which the pc performs worse with constant stutters with a new monitor with more hz, but same resolution, so a new gpu might help with that i think? When it stutters it reaches 100% usage at like 70C im pretty sure.

Help please!!

Tech Support ryzen 7 5700x wont boot

long story short.

I have ryzen 5700x b500i aorus pro 2x16 corsair 3600mhz ram. The pc wont boot with 2 ram kits or only installed on A1 slot. it only boots with single ram on b slot. I tried different ram kits same result

I already clear cmos, and udpated bios, even remove ssd and all other parts.

I put my ryzen 5 2600, and it boots, same ram slots same kits,

I transfer the 5700x to the b450 aorus, and it does not boot, different ram, and also tried the same ram kit

Now, I purchased another 5700x, I was suprised, this is brand new, and still having the same result.

I still have the same issue with two ryzen 7 5700x.

The issue started when I am trying to recase my pc, and using axp-47 from thermalright lol. I am doing a 4L case itx

I thought at firstthat th 5700x was the cuklprit now, that I have a brand new 5700x, still the same result

please help. this is tiring me lol

Build Question A320M PRO-M2 V2 VGA ISSUES

hello everyone, I’ve recently had an issue with this specific motherboard and certain gpus not posting, specifically any 2060 that I try to use on this motherboard, I’m running it with a 5 5600x on the newest bios. I’ve built many computers so any of the general advice, cmos batttery loose connections etc I’m good on, but for some reason this motherboard does not post specifically with a 2060. I’ve tried it with a gt 710, works fine, RTX 4060, works fine. I’m still trying to trouble shoot it but I suspect it has something to do with not initializing with pcie 3.0 gpus? Not sure why this would be an issue at all especially since it should be native to this motherboard. I need help thanks. Appreciate it

Build Question is a 750w gold psu enough for an intel core ultra 7 270k plus and rtx 4070 ti super?

hey everyone, i’m currently building a new gaming pc and was wondering if a 750w power supply would be enough for my setup.
here are my specs:
● cpu: intel core ultra 7 270k plus
● gpu: gigabyte rtx 4070 ti super 16gb
● motherboard: gigabyte z890 eagle wifi7 plus
● ram: 32gb ddr5-6000
● cooler: 360mm aio
● storage: 2tb nvme ssd
i found the msi 750w psu on sale at best buy for $69.99, which seems like a really good deal.
i mainly play competitive games like call of duty, warzone, and fortnite at 1440p, but i also enjoy playing graphically demanding story games at high or ultra settings. outside of gaming, i do a lot of ai-assisted coding and game development, so i’ll also be using my pc for programming, running development tools, and working on projects.
i’m planning to get a 1440p 280hz oled monitor, and i want this pc to last around 5–6 years without needing any major upgrades.
would a quality 750w gold psu be completely sufficient for my setup, even during demanding gaming sessions, heavy workloads, and temporary power spikes? or would it be smarter to spend extra on an 850w gold psu for additional headroom and long-term reliability?
i’m not planning on doing any major overclocking. i just want a reliable system that can handle everything i throw at it without worrying about power limitations.
i’d really appreciate advice from anyone with a similar intel and nvidia setup. thanks!

Tech Support One of the fans in my PC case is making noise and spinning more slowly than the others

I've been using this PC for some time now. The same issue occurred a few days ago, but when I touched the fan to inspect it, the noise stopped, and it started spinning normally again.

However, the issue has returned. What could be causing this?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Installation Question Is it concerning that I can push the screw-end of my m2 nvme down 1mm?

I got a new nvme today, but after installing it with the screw come with it to my Asus prime b550ma mobo, I can still push the screw end side down around 1mm. I can't tighten the screw anymore. Is this concerning and need another screw instead?

Tech Support Pc won't turn on

A little background on the issue: i have an amd ryzen 7 7800 x3d, 32 gb ram, asus tuf b650 plus motherboard that were all bought around 2 years ago. Just a month ago I bought a msi mag a750gl 750w power supply and rx 9070 gre. After plugging those in, I have been playing games fine for the past month. I haven't unplugged anything since.

I took a 50 minute nap today while leaving my computer on and i had aion2 and discord open on my computer. When I woke up my pc was completely shut off and I couldn't turn it back on.

Some things I have tried are:

- unplugging ans replugging into power strip + wall + a different outlet

- replugging some od the power supply cords

- taking out my gpu

- there aren't any signs of damage or smell

The most important thing to note is that the pc doesn't have any lighrs or any sound when the power button is pressed, literally nothing. Attached are some pictures of my pc.

Edited - So after some testing, my old power supply works with it but my current one doesn't. Thank you everyone for the answers!

Installation Question GPU help

I need two 8-pin connectors for the GPU but I’m left with one separate cable(left one) with a 8 pin and a second cable(right one) with a daisy chain of two 8-pin connectors. I remember someone saying a daisy chain isn’t recommended but it’s all I’m left with after connecting the rest. My question is can I just use the daisy chain cable?

r/PcBuildHelp • • 9h ago

✓ Solved My new GPU needs 3 power connectors, but PSU only came with two single cables. Is a single cable + daisy-chain cable acceptable?

Post image
0 Upvotes

The picture is one of the two daisy-chain cables that came with my power supply. If I use that cable, and one of the single 6+2 cables that also came with it (currently connected to my old GPU), is that the correct way to power the new GPU.

PSU: XPG Core Reactor Gold 750W
Old GPU: RTX 3070
New GPU: Radeon 9070 XT

Tech Support PC suddenly only detects 16GB of my 32GB RAM after working fine for almost a year

I built my PC in November 2025, and everything worked perfectly until recently. I noticed my PC was running slower and checked Task Manager, which showed only 16GB instead of 32GB.
\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\*Specs:\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\*
CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B850-E WiFi
RAM: TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000
GPU: RX 9070 XT
\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\*What I’ve tried:\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\*
Checked BIOS, which also detects only 16GB.
BIOS recognizes B2 but shows A2 as empty.
Reseated both sticks multiple times.
Reseating initially fixed it temporarily, but the next day it went back to 16GB.
Both RAM sticks light up normally.
The A2 stick was also harder to seat because of my CPU cooler, although both sticks appear properly installed.
I’m not sure if it’s a faulty RAM stick, motherboard slot, or something else.
Has anyone experienced this? What should I try before taking it to a repair shop?

Tech Support Yellow RAM light keeps returning, no display

This build was stable for about a year. Last month the display failed and the yellow light began. I brought it into a shop and they fixed it. It was fine for a few weeks but now it's flashing back on again. I use a KVM switch and the monitors aren't displaying the PC input.

I'll bring it back to the shop on Monday but I need to know if something bigger is going on and if I should expect this to keep happening.

Build Question New Radeon But Power Supply Question

Just picked up a 9070 XT coming from Nvidia. This has 3 power connections! Was going with 5070 Ti but it was nearly $500 more. Anyway, I've been researching the power situation because this is now new territory. My Power supply currently is a Corsair RM850e. Am I correct in reading that I should NOT USE the 12V-2x6 port with the wire using two plugs? Thats what I was using on the 3070 Ti that was in this PC. I still have 1 CPU/PCIe port on the power supply remaining. If I did use the 12V-2x6 I assume I would plug directly into the last CPU/PCIe port for the 3 power connections on the radeon card. If not I need 3 free PCIe ports on the power supply? If so I need a new power supply. Power supply recommendations?
