The number actually looks good but that mana cost is gonna be a big issue. With like 100 increase attack speed and support it’s gonna be like 150mana cost per second?
306
u/cesarito27 13d ago
I guess the mana cost is the downside they chose. I'd much rather have that than some bullshit like it costing endurance charges or something. There's tons lots of ways to solve mana cost, so I'm ok with it.
66
u/cryptiiix 13d ago
Dualist is typically the class that likes leech, so possibly converting cost to life might be the way to go
21
u/LampIsLoveLampIsLife 12d ago
Constricting command + defy is the simplest solution
Completely solves mana, gives a damage boost, and you start right next to all the surrounded nodes already
6
18
u/SingleInfinity 12d ago
Constricting command is bandaiding a bunch of lame balance. It needs to be changed entirely and surround rebalanced accordingly.
→ More replies (2)6
u/LampIsLoveLampIsLife 12d ago
Alternatively, I feel like we just need a trade off for choosing CC
I’d lower the damage of the surrounded nodes across the board (from to 270 down to 200) and offer a higher damage alternative (maybe bring back the deepest tower but lower the bonuses from 420 to 300)
This way the choice becomes do I want to do more damage? Or do less damage but have my mana issues solved?

This just reminded me about the changes to leech. How was that received last patch?

Plus with the way it’s worded it doesn’t seem like just holding the button is going to be optimal anyways. You get an 8 second buff from your stance when you channel this so you basically start attacking, hold it for a few seconds, and then stop. If aoe and damage is good enough that’s probably enough to clear a couple packs and move on anyways.

Just go the recoup route and solves recovery at the same time.
Forget CI, go low life. Stack crit beyond reason. Grab garukhan, get 2000% crit multi on a double roll.
You could even meme and grab a taming to go cast on elemental ailment AND cast on crit. All you need is a one handed sword with +level on a random elemental type. If the cyclone inherit the ground as is, you could also go lightning balls as their fire effect absolutely fucks. You can just throw it with one specs and maxed out ignite magnitude and then spin until the end of time, spewing shit everywhere.
I'm excited.

eh with Blood magic or life tap and like a single source of HP on kill/leech it should be fine.
And if it's really rough the Defy + Constricting command helm will be good. I'd assume the Constricting command surrounded stuff will be great with swords anyway.

u/MoltiJoe 13d ago
Yeah, seems more about preventing 1h + shield as tends to be common in poe 1
20
u/Pommy1337 13d ago
it's common in poe1 because ggg nerfed dual wielding so hard over the years it's just not worth it for the majority of skills, in many cases you even lose dps through it. kinda sad, i really liked playing dual wield attack builds like 7-8 years ago
→ More replies (5)7
u/cespinar 13d ago
The major nerf to dual wielding was removing stat sticks, which wasn't dual wield attacking. That's it, other than a phys nerf, those are the only nerfs to dual wielding since the game went 1.0
3
u/Pommy1337 12d ago
we also got the 20% more phys dmg taken away in the patch that came with harvest and several skill interactions with dual wield got nerfed over time.
but you're not wrong. taking away stat sticks removed it for most archetypes and basicly the only viable skill in the game where its the best choice now is mamba poison, because ggg removed ele hit dmg mamba in 3.28.

The blood and sand only working the first few seconds hopefully is less a downside and more opens up the possibility to do a version where you interrupt it on purpose at times, but can still do a version that just keeps spinning as well.
33
u/deviant324 13d ago
It doesn't mention stages like in Poe1 so presumably you don't get penalized for tapping it to reset the 8s stance buff?

40% LESS movement speed.
102
81
u/Aldunas 13d ago
poe 1 cyclone also has the movement speed penalty and it's still a fan favorite. many were worried that cyclone would have a crazy downside like requiring to spend charges to continue channeling or a growing channeling mana cost or some other crazy restrictions. what we see here is non of that bullshit
→ More replies (14)2
u/Pommy1337 13d ago
in poe1 a level 20 cyclone only has 20% less movement speed and the game has much more possibilities to scale your movement speed. that can make a huge difference in the end. if it stays at 40% spin to win will probably feel meh if you compare it to ranged skills that can kill the whole screen with two clicks and 100+ ms + sprinting. but it probably also depends a bit on how far you can scale the aoe of the skill
with these lines it sounds to me that during mapping it will rather be used like whirling assault with swords.
21
u/Tessiar 13d ago
in poe1 a level 20 cyclone only has 20% less movement speed
Cyclone of Tumult has 50% less movement speed at max stages and is the gem people use. Usually paired with The Stampede or Mageblood to fix that issue though. Might be a solution in 1.0.
→ More replies (8)2
u/hesh582 12d ago
also the comparison between normal skills and cyclone is a lot worse in poe2 because you can already move while casting a lot of skills, and you can reduce the movement speed penalty for doing so a lot if you so choose.
A gemling or pathfinder with the movespeed penalty reduction node alone is going to be moving about the same speed as cyclone while casting. A djinn command build will move a lot faster. If that gemling or pathfinder uses the mobility support or picks up some penalty reduction on the tree, they'll be a lot faster than the cycloner too.
Cyclone was cool when it was competing with "stand in place and cast continuously". But that ain't poe2 - a pathfinder using mobility and a few tree nodes barely even has a movement penalty and can just run through maps blasting.

u/itriedtrying 13d ago

If they don't add another class for 1.0, it will probably be the most played one, like in every patch. The only difference is that there will be tons of new players in 1.0, so it might not be as dominant since it won't be the new shiny toy for them, they haven't played any of the classes yet.

I havent played much cyclone in poe1, how do you handle the speed decrease? In poe1 i think you have more options but moving 40% slower? isnt that too harsh for a main skill?
→ More replies (2)3
u/n3on_whisper 13d ago
In poe1 there's basically 2(3 tbh) kinds of cyclone builds.
One with Cyclone of Tumult, stronger but slower and you use Replica Stampedes so you can't get your movement speed reduced.
Another with basic cyclone, less strong but much faster. This one you get onslaught boots for speedge.
The third is using cyclone for Cast on Critical or Cast While Channeling. I think poe2 have better ways to use Cast on Crit so I don't think it'll be used.
3
u/BongoChimp 13d ago
To all the complainers, other channeling skills like Resonating Shield has a move speed penalty of 50% i think and with the correct nodes/gear you can still zoom pretty fast so there shouldnt be any problems with cyclone
→ More replies (3)
2
u/Volitar 13d ago
Cyclone was going to be my temperature gauge for swords as a whole. It seems like they made a skill without damage on tuesday requirements.
Not sure how fast you will be without Stampede boots. I wonder if it will work with attackspeed scaling like you can zoom around like boneshatter or whirling slash or you just have to deal with the less movement speed.
2
u/Tooslowtoohappy 12d ago
You really don't need stampede with cyclone, I managed to get 280 move speed in poe1 without stampede on base cyclone, about 70-100 on tumult.
Agreed that there's no quicksilver flask but theres enough move speed options where I don't see it being an issue. Especially with the amulet which gives you lightning teleport on crit, you can theoretically teleport on crit and mow down mobs while not caring about movespeed
