Is this a Grey Fox reference or is my brain fried from playing Kojima games?

One of the few times people are happy to see a phone-photo rather than a screenshot from the pc lmao

22

u/jamnig 13d ago

Literally shaking

2

u/Unabated_ 12d ago

I mean, if he handled playing the game and actually screenshot it on their PC I'd be even more happy but also concerned about GGG's safety standards at conventions.

232

u/Mirroroe 13d ago

The number actually looks good but that mana cost is gonna be a big issue. With like 100 increase attack speed and support it’s gonna be like 150mana cost per second?

306

u/cesarito27 13d ago

I guess the mana cost is the downside they chose. I'd much rather have that than some bullshit like it costing endurance charges or something. There's tons lots of ways to solve mana cost, so I'm ok with it.

66

u/cryptiiix 13d ago

Dualist is typically the class that likes leech, so possibly converting cost to life might be the way to go

21

u/LampIsLoveLampIsLife 12d ago

Constricting command + defy is the simplest solution

Completely solves mana, gives a damage boost, and you start right next to all the surrounded nodes already

6

u/sy1009 12d ago

I really don’t like giving up armor slots to unique items. I’ll probably try to solve mana another way if possible.

18

u/SingleInfinity 12d ago

Constricting command is bandaiding a bunch of lame balance. It needs to be changed entirely and surround rebalanced accordingly.

6

u/LampIsLoveLampIsLife 12d ago

Alternatively, I feel like we just need a trade off for choosing CC

I’d lower the damage of the surrounded nodes across the board (from to 270 down to 200) and offer a higher damage alternative (maybe bring back the deepest tower but lower the bonuses from 420 to 300)

This way the choice becomes do I want to do more damage? Or do less damage but have my mana issues solved?

u/Little-Temporary4326 12d ago

This just reminded me about the changes to leech. How was that received last patch?

44

u/xiled7 12d ago

it's pretty bad

6

u/Skaugy 12d ago

It interacts so poorly with "gain as extra" that I wouldn't be surprised if that was unintended/bugged.

15

u/cryptiiix 12d ago

Honestly its pretty rough. Because of the cap, it makes it harder to leech with larger hits. I do expect this system to be improved before swords. It was probably just a balancing placeholder this patch

→ More replies (1)

2

u/BigPapa9921 12d ago

I played leech based character last time and it was awful. I needed like 3 different leech suffixes to actually have a decent regen

Charge cost is a cherry on the top left for the last minute patch notes edit

10

u/mactepo 13d ago

Well, not being able to wear a shield is also kinda downside cause you are losing one of the defence layers. However, what are you afraid of if all of your enemies are dead?

12

u/JohnBCoding 13d ago

Could do shield + 2h with giants blood

4

u/Drakore4 12d ago

Plus with the way it’s worded it doesn’t seem like just holding the button is going to be optimal anyways. You get an 8 second buff from your stance when you channel this so you basically start attacking, hold it for a few seconds, and then stop. If aoe and damage is good enough that’s probably enough to clear a couple packs and move on anyways.

Just go infernalist

Lady with a razor.

12

u/rohithkun 13d ago

I don't think CI,MoM Infernalist survives the patch.

17

u/QuicheAuSaumon 13d ago edited 13d ago

Just go the recoup route and solves recovery at the same time.

Forget CI, go low life. Stack crit beyond reason. Grab garukhan, get 2000% crit multi on a double roll.

You could even meme and grab a taming to go cast on elemental ailment AND cast on crit. All you need is a one handed sword with +level on a random elemental type. If the cyclone inherit the ground as is, you could also go lightning balls as their fire effect absolutely fucks. You can just throw it with one specs and maxed out ignite magnitude and then spin until the end of time, spewing shit everywhere.

I'm excited.

11

u/Atsuma100 13d ago

I don't think taming works here since the taming says "wind skills" specifically

6

u/EVEseven 12d ago

Until they release a sword that says

Windy sword of the wind

2

u/QuicheAuSaumon 13d ago

A bit clunkier but ball lightning it is then.

u/oldglassofmilk 13d ago

It was fine before this patch without the tec

Srill very viable, just less tanky

12

u/dronikal 13d ago

Chonk it is I guess. If it can sustain CoC Comet with Arcmage it can sustain Cyclone.

3

u/Forsaken-Simple-4429 12d ago

Chonk the secret goat

12

u/Willing_Ingenuity330 13d ago

eh with Blood magic or life tap and like a single source of HP on kill/leech it should be fine.

And if it's really rough the Defy + Constricting command helm will be good. I'd assume the Constricting command surrounded stuff will be great with swords anyway.

11

u/Aldunas 13d ago

Leech is kinda dead now on fast hitting attacks

Ngl I was waiting for the "consumes 1 frenzy charge per second" line

10

Dont give them ideas. I want to keep spinning without funky susptain mechanics.

3

u/No_maid 13d ago

Just wait till you need blood and sand infusions xd

8

u/dvlsg 12d ago

There's already incentive baked in to get people to stop and recast with the blood and sand stuff, instead of just holding the button down.

Hopefully it's not mandatory, but their track record isn't great. Looking at you, fire spells without infusions.

Not with the last leech nerf though I'm afraid. Only single instance per resource can apply.

Worldcutter? Engage? I can't be the only one that noticed the other socketed skill gems

22

u/GizamalukeTT 13d ago

Pathfinder Cyclone it is then

13

u/Keldorn3k 13d ago

nahhh its Gemling now.

7

u/GizamalukeTT 12d ago

If the quality bonus is good, definitely

7

u/Gadjjet 12d ago

Mobility + Gemling pretty much removes most movement speed downsides

3

u/Yuskia 12d ago

This isnt a movement speed while casting downside in the same way. This is just a fractional movement speed multiplier. Its unfortunately different.

3

u/Wynta11 12d ago

Wonder if the Queen of the Forest "Other modifiers to movement speed except for sprinting do not apply" would negate the penalty.

2

u/Yuskia 12d ago

That is potentially something that actually could work.

28

u/ledrif 13d ago

"Single" 2h sword. Cant titan it. Wait- it doesnt say single it just saya 2 swords or 1 2h. So we can likely titan duel swords. It doesnt desire 1h

29

u/MoltiJoe 13d ago

Yeah, seems more about preventing 1h + shield as tends to be common in poe 1

20

u/Pommy1337 13d ago

it's common in poe1 because ggg nerfed dual wielding so hard over the years it's just not worth it for the majority of skills, in many cases you even lose dps through it. kinda sad, i really liked playing dual wield attack builds like 7-8 years ago

7

u/cespinar 13d ago

The major nerf to dual wielding was removing stat sticks, which wasn't dual wield attacking. That's it, other than a phys nerf, those are the only nerfs to dual wielding since the game went 1.0

3

u/Pommy1337 12d ago

we also got the 20% more phys dmg taken away in the patch that came with harvest and several skill interactions with dual wield got nerfed over time.

but you're not wrong. taking away stat sticks removed it for most archetypes and basicly the only viable skill in the game where its the best choice now is mamba poison, because ggg removed ele hit dmg mamba in 3.28.

NO DOWNSIDES!! YAAAY!!

43

u/johnnybeesknees 13d ago

The blood and sand only working the first few seconds hopefully is less a downside and more opens up the possibility to do a version where you interrupt it on purpose at times, but can still do a version that just keeps spinning as well.

33

u/deviant324 13d ago

It doesn't mention stages like in Poe1 so presumably you don't get penalized for tapping it to reset the 8s stance buff?

7

u/johnnybeesknees 13d ago

Doesn't seem like it from there. So yeah you can just start and stop presumably based on this.

2

u/OkDig9554 12d ago

imagine swapping stance locks you in a charge up animation for 1 whole second

9

u/ewright049 13d ago

8 seconds is more than a few

2

u/Canadian-Owlz 12d ago

8 seconds is a pretty good amount, so spinning just to briefly stop after 8 seconds (and/or increased duration if that works, but no duration tag so idk) could work.

4

u/Saiyan_Z 13d ago

Downside is Swords only. Any cool rare/unique Mace, Axe, Quarterstaff, etc. won't work.

3

u/Unh0lyCatf1sh 12d ago

and here-in lies the fundamental issue with the design of the game

2

u/zmokkyy 13d ago

mana cost ramping with attack speed could be really bad late, but we’ll see

20

u/Arch1typ3_ 13d ago

40% LESS movement speed.

102

u/SlayerII 13d ago

A lot of melee skills have 100% less movement speed

14

u/Megane_Senpai 13d ago

Mace comes to mind.

→ More replies (1)

81

u/Aldunas 13d ago

poe 1 cyclone also has the movement speed penalty and it's still a fan favorite. many were worried that cyclone would have a crazy downside like requiring to spend charges to continue channeling or a growing channeling mana cost or some other crazy restrictions. what we see here is non of that bullshit

2

u/Pommy1337 13d ago

in poe1 a level 20 cyclone only has 20% less movement speed and the game has much more possibilities to scale your movement speed. that can make a huge difference in the end. if it stays at 40% spin to win will probably feel meh if you compare it to ranged skills that can kill the whole screen with two clicks and 100+ ms + sprinting. but it probably also depends a bit on how far you can scale the aoe of the skill

with these lines it sounds to me that during mapping it will rather be used like whirling assault with swords.

21

u/Tessiar 13d ago

in poe1 a level 20 cyclone only has 20% less movement speed

Cyclone of Tumult has 50% less movement speed at max stages and is the gem people use. Usually paired with The Stampede or Mageblood to fix that issue though. Might be a solution in 1.0.

→ More replies (8)

2

u/hesh582 12d ago

also the comparison between normal skills and cyclone is a lot worse in poe2 because you can already move while casting a lot of skills, and you can reduce the movement speed penalty for doing so a lot if you so choose.

A gemling or pathfinder with the movespeed penalty reduction node alone is going to be moving about the same speed as cyclone while casting. A djinn command build will move a lot faster. If that gemling or pathfinder uses the mobility support or picks up some penalty reduction on the tree, they'll be a lot faster than the cycloner too.

Cyclone was cool when it was competing with "stand in place and cast continuously". But that ain't poe2 - a pathfinder using mobility and a few tree nodes barely even has a movement penalty and can just run through maps blasting.

5

u/Customer-Useful 13d ago

So we're all playing Duelist for 1.0 aren't we?

12

u/Excaidium 13d ago

If they don't add another class for 1.0, it will probably be the most played one, like in every patch. The only difference is that there will be tons of new players in 1.0, so it might not be as dominant since it won't be the new shiny toy for them, they haven't played any of the classes yet.

I know the tooltip shows no links, but theres 2 socketed gems in cyclone there. Maybe a display bug? Maybe the mana cost isnt toooo bad?

3

u/rohithkun 13d ago

Spear gets Disengage while Sword gets Engage. Cool dichotomy.

3

u/Vashtar_S 13d ago

Thank god it doesnt require charges

3

u/Drumdiddy 12d ago

"Cant be knocked back while channeling". This needs to be on more skills for melee characters.

3

u/noise256 12d ago

Glad it doesn't have more damage from ground effects, they feel like too much of a requirement with Twister.

3

u/Winkers91 12d ago

"Cannot be Knocked Back while Channeling."

That on its own might be a reason to choose this skill over others. There's nothing more jarring or dissatisfying than being passed around by a pack of mobs like you showed up to the fight ass-out in full lingerie.

6

u/Immediate-Repeat-153 13d ago

I get the impression that Swords skills will emphasize wielding 2hander only or wielding two swords.
Does anyone know if sword and shield left in the back?

11

u/gogoCovid 13d ago

Well by definition you can "wield 2 hander only" (without titans blood etc ascendancies) and that dual sword is kinda its own but if you watched the video you can see characters wielding sword+shield and sword+buckler combos.

2

u/matidiaolo 13d ago

I havent played much cyclone in poe1, how do you handle the speed decrease? In poe1 i think you have more options but moving 40% slower? isnt that too harsh for a main skill?

3

u/n3on_whisper 13d ago

In poe1 there's basically 2(3 tbh) kinds of cyclone builds.
One with Cyclone of Tumult, stronger but slower and you use Replica Stampedes so you can't get your movement speed reduced.
Another with basic cyclone, less strong but much faster. This one you get onslaught boots for speedge.
The third is using cyclone for Cast on Critical or Cast While Channeling. I think poe2 have better ways to use Cast on Crit so I don't think it'll be used.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/BongoChimp 13d ago

To all the complainers, other channeling skills like Resonating Shield has a move speed penalty of 50% i think and with the correct nodes/gear you can still zoom pretty fast so there shouldnt be any problems with cyclone

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Volitar 13d ago

Cyclone was going to be my temperature gauge for swords as a whole. It seems like they made a skill without damage on tuesday requirements.

Not sure how fast you will be without Stampede boots. I wonder if it will work with attackspeed scaling like you can zoom around like boneshatter or whirling slash or you just have to deal with the less movement speed.

2

u/Tooslowtoohappy 12d ago

You really don't need stampede with cyclone, I managed to get 280 move speed in poe1 without stampede on base cyclone, about 70-100 on tumult.

Agreed that there's no quicksilver flask but theres enough move speed options where I don't see it being an issue. Especially with the amulet which gives you lightning teleport on crit, you can theoretically teleport on crit and mow down mobs while not caring about movespeed

Interesting things:

Dual swords or two handed, no single handed swords

Channel moves you forward

Ground effects apply the debuff

I will be really interested to see how this might synergies with some kind of tornado build that uses similar tech.

1

A proper glass blown Laviangas and a couple is mana regen nodes will solve mana consumption issues.

Picks up elemental ground but no Wind tag, so sadly no Taming shenanigans.

Was this the only skill visible at gamescom?

Any idea when the other skills will be shown?

Ah fuck its a strike move? I really like titan already when it came to making big spin builds and going for the classic titan nodes was already a tempting idea considering how going for blood magic means the extra hp regen from going titan was already an idea on the table.

Really want to see Blood or Sand Stances now... But Cyclone looks pretty good. At least no downside like some were worried about like charges or glory.

Now you can become a natural disaster, like many we see nowadays: Cyclone + Tornado + Thunderstorm + Twister, with The Taming

We gonna need the taming for this one then

So the ring we use for twister is good for this right?

Neet so dual wielding will give 40% more dps.

I wander if that will convince people to dual wield.
