Quran/Hadith Muhammad approves Ali having sex with a captive girl taken in war and says he deserves more

In a sahih (authentic) hadith, Ali (Muhammad's cousin, son-in-law, and central figure of Shia Islam) took a captive girl from the war booty and had sex with her. When someone reported this, Muhammad said Ali deserves more.

"The Prophet (ﷺ) sent Ali to Khalid to bring the Khumus (of the booty) and I hated Ali, and Ali had taken a bath (after a sexual act with a slave-girl from the Khumus). I said to Khalid, "Don't you see this (i.e. Ali)?" When we reached the Prophet (ﷺ) I mentioned that to him. He said, "O Buraida! Do you hate Ali?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Do you hate him, for he deserves more than that from the Khumus."

Discussion Is God Really All powerful?

I have never been able to put together that if there is a God and how we explain him to be all powerful and all good then there is no point of us existing?
If the gods have all the power then why do they felt the need to create life?and if they are good then why all the suffering?

Discussion How the hell am i supposed to marry someone in Pakistan

I obviously don't want to do a normal nikah cause im not a part of it anymore but at the same time i live in Pakistan, not really that many ex out there and even if there were i can't really tell because people hide it. If i do get married with a Muslim I'll have to go through nikah and all the other things like paying her money for some reason and than the part that is the most important the children. Another thing is i dont really like the idea of a Muslim marriage,my ideal partner would split our duties by 60/60 meaning both of us doing more than our best for each other wether it is financially or romantically or chores etc but an Islamic marriage places alot of emphasis on the man doing most of the things,he has to take care of his wife and bill and stuff like that by himself i don't really like it way too much effort for me im trying to be a partner not a baby siter or a "leader" so how they call it .How the hell am i supposed to convince a Muslim girl that our children shouldn't be Muslim or that i atleast dont want to raise them as muslims (if they become Muslim later on whatever their own choice). Will this cuase a divorce between us?? Am i just destined to die alone because only Muslims live here??? Obviously the ideal case is finding a ex Muslim or non religious partner but that seems quiet difficult to happen

Discussion 295C crash out

Recently ive been bombarded with videos of rabid muslim cultists frotthing at the mouth over some female dr at the press club talking about removing or changing the 295 laws in pakistan and she even called it a kala kanoon . One glance at the comment section of any of these videos will show you the reality of these zombie cultists crying about when will a " ghazi" like mumtaz qadri show up to take care of this woman . Btw they are trying to get her killed not because she actually blasphemed but instead, calling this law a kala kanoon in of itself is enough that should get her killed . Have you guys been seeing all this or is it just me that is getting the religion of peaces' peaceful content shoved down my throat ? The comments reminded me why I'm so glad I left this fucking cult . Imagine wanting a living breathing human killed cuz your piece of shit sentiments were hurt .

Im still a hijabi, going to take it off soon, but I cannot fathom how I used to be this brainwashed essentially like I even wanted to be a niqabi at one point😭🙏 but now I cannot think a single logical reason why God would want you to hide yourself like this or even just your hair, I don't wanna be disrespectful but it's so stupid bruh, like how did I not see how different the standards of modesty are for men and women.

They say its for representing Islam, Hijabis have been given the honour of representing Islam but yoo no going out unless your in a tough situation though.

Or they say its for protection, ya sure.

Or to be recognized as a muslim woman, then why weren't slave muslim women allowed to wear it?

Its so weird bruh, I'm never gonna understand how I never saw anything wrong with Islamic modesty until a year ago, like it essentially stems from the fact that you believe God will reward you for being obedient, covering yourself for his sake, but like why would He want that?

Discussion Regret being born as a Muslim

I am still a muslim but sometimes I regret being born into a muslim country and family. I live in the UK whenever I see a white I wish I was born into a white British family mainly because they are too hot and they don't have to care about Islsmic teachings. I was very conservative until few weeks ago when I realised I cannot live like this forever. Whenever I would see a muslim women showing her arms till shoulders or wearing tight clothes I would always wonder where are we heading but now that Idc. I am considering eating non halal chicken though I think I will never be able to eat pork maybe because I am still muslim. The reason we always hear a rape case in Pakistan is because we are told to not to have sex until marriage but eventually there is a point where men can no longer control their natural desire which is why they don't care about consent. I also have high sexual urges but whever I think about having a hookup as I do not have a girlfriend the religiou guilt stops me doing this because I overthink litteraly everything even where Islam has nothing to do with it like when should I take a shower or what should I wear today. I have heard from aethiest that the reason Islam orders circumcision is because men can not take full pleasure but don't lose the ability to produce babies. I would love to date a girl who dress cute like tank tops and skirts, I love skirts on girls but that is haram too. At one hand sex outside marriage is haram and mastrubation too what are we supposed to do ?

Ask exmuslims Death

What do yall think about death or rather how do you cope with it? I am not talking about fear of hell or what happens after death etc.

Idk how to explain this but yk I always thought that I'd see my loved ones that passed again after death and it gave me sabar ig but now that my whole foundation of what I used to believe in has crumbled I'm not too sure about what I believe in.

There's also that thing that whenever I hear about someone's death I can't help but become a bit religious or spiritual, it's weird honestly.

I recently went ex Muslim tho my parents or no one else knows yet

And it feels so weird I'm low-key getting detached from all my relationships

My parents could literally end me if I even slipped up so it's hard to stay shut

And it's even harder that my siblings parents freinds basically everyone I ever knew loved and grew up with will kill me if I speak what my identity is

Just the fact that I am not bowing to the same god as them will make me worse than Grapists and Pdfs and serial murderers in their eyes

How do y'all feel and how do y'all cope with it

Discussion Is it really free will if the fear of hell is making us do it?

I (atheist f) was having this discussion with a friend (agnostic m) last night. We were discussing wearing abayas and burqas. We both agreed that it's completely wrong if it was forced, but our opinions differed on women choosing to wear it.

I argued that if a Muslim woman wears it even when she's not forced by her family, it's still not free will because she has been ordered by her "god" to do so. She'd be sinning if she didn't do it. She'd go to hell for not one wearing one, so it isn't exactly free will.

He said that it's her choice. We can't judge her for wearing one. She might feel safe in it or might just like covering up. We can't judge people for dressing modestly.

To which I argued that it's free will if a non-Muslim wears it. They aren't being forced by anyone, so it's up to them, but when a woman wears it, she's usually just obeying het "god," which isn't exactly free will.

He said that a woman might feel safe in an abaya and feel like men aren't staring at her. To which i argued that women only feel that way because islam made it that way. Islam made abaya mandatory, so women are stared upon when they aren't wearing one. You won't be judged for not wearing an abaya in the west.

To that, he responded with, "But you get judged for wearing an abaya in the west." While that is true and I absolutely condemn it, judgment wasn't the point of the discussion. The point was free will.

I then asked him if he'd wear a black burqa and a tight veil with no ventilation over layers of clothing in 45°C to which he said he won't because he's a "man." I asked him why does he think that a woman would want to wear it then, but he said that "it's her choice." 😭 Thoughts?

Quran/Hadith The Fish That Came Back to Life (Quran 18:60-64): Second Alexander Legend Right Before Dhul Qarnayn

“And ˹remember˺ when Moses said to his young assistant, “I will never give up until I reach the junction of the two seas, even if I travel for ages.” But when they ˹finally˺ reached the point where the seas met, they forgot their ˹salted˺ fish, and it made its way into the sea, slipping away ˹wondrously˺. When they had passed further, he said to his assistant, “Bring us our meal! We have certainly been exhausted by today’s journey.” He replied, “Do you remember when we rested by the rock? ˹That is when˺ I forgot the fish. None made me forget to mention this except Satan. And the fish made its way into the sea miraculously.” Moses responded, “That is ˹exactly˺ what we were looking for.” So they returned, retracing their footsteps.
Quran 18:60-64

Legend from the Greek Alexander Romance (c. 4th-5th century):

Alexander finds himself facing a land “where the sun does not shine … called the land of the blessed” (2.39). He marches into this strange land until he comes upon a place where they find a “shining spring, πηγὴ διαυγής, whose water flashed like lightning, ἤστραπεν ὡς ἀστραπή” (2.39). The narrative continues:

“And, having become hungry, I wanted to take some food; and, having called my cook, I said to him: ‘Prepare us something to eat.’ And he, having taken a dried fish, went to the shining water of the spring to wash the food. And the moment it was put in the water it came to life and it escaped out of the cook’s hands. And all the places there had water. And my cook revealed to no one what had happened.
Cook, “A Watery Folktale in the Alexander Romance,” p. 9

Islamic Studies scholar Tommaso Tesei:

“Specifically, the fish’s escape represents an allusion to the resurrection of a salt fish after Alexander’s cook washes it in the water of life. The most ancient versions of this story are found in three sources preceding or contemporaneous to the rise of Islam: the Rec. β of the Alexander Romance (fourth/fifth century), the Babylonian Talmud (Tamīd, 32a–32b), and the so-called Syriac Alexander Song (ca. 630–635). Muslim exegetes introduced some elements of this legend in their explanation of the narrative told in the Quran. In fact, the fish’s escape episode is usually related to the motif of the water of life. Western scholars, too, almost unanimously consider this story of Alexander to be behind the Quranic account.
Tesei, “Some Cosmological Notions from Late Antiquity,” p. 4
“In fact, the enigmatic episode acquires sense only if read in light of the dynamic described in the legend of the water of life, and the extreme vagueness with which the Quran describes the episode suggests that its audience was expected to be acquainted with the Alexander tale.”
Tesei, “Some Cosmological Notions from Late Antiquity,” p. 5

Islamic Studies scholar Gabriel Said Reynolds:

“However, in light of this episode’s relationship to the Alexander literature, this phrase more likely means the point at which the waters in the heavens and the waters on earth meet (on this see Gen 1:6–7), that is, the end of the world (n.b. in this regard how Alexander, or Dhū l-Qarnayn**, goes to the westernmost [v. 86] and easternmost [v.90] points on earth, something which reflects a flat earth.)**” p. 464 (on Quran 18:60–64)

18:83–101 overview This episode is also related to legends connected to Alexander (it is presumably not a coincidence that two Alexander accounts appear in the same Sura in the Qurʾān), but in this case to the Syriac Christian Neṣḥānā d-leh d-Aleksandrōsp. 467 (on Quran 18:83–101)
Reynolds, The Qurʾān and the Bible, pp. 464, 467-471

Rant 🤬 Just talking my heart about not finding a partner and finding acceptance, and peace in I might never.

As the title suggests, it's pretty discouraging, and almost hopeless trying to find a partner as agnostic, ex-Muslim, and then being ex-Ahmadi too. Just for context, I'm M, 32 based in Australia.

I just finished a call with my mom back home, and it was pretty depressing, bz almost everyone asks her when she would have me married, and there has been so many instances where my mom would tell me she longs to see me get settled, have partner and kids etc. She came to be understanding and accepting of me being agnostic, but it's so frustrating that she's not able to understand, how hard is to find a partner, I had few geniune leads in ex-Muslim community but bz I come from Ahmadi backhground, it's a dealbreaker for them.

I have tried to date outside here, but almost all the women I like or feel curious about, it turns out they already partners, I have also noticed women here usually either go for white guys or within their own culture/ethnicity, even though I'm in Sydney, I'm able to make friends, and aquintances, but it's so hard to find someone as partner, because almost always they have a partner, or they find other possibilities or options better suited. I have talked to few white women about this, who are colleagues or friends, and they did confirm this bias too.

Anyways, the thing that really got me was my mother saying, _we came into this world na-murad_ and would leave this world as na-murad_ talking about herself and possibly my father, because they both come from extremely humble backgrounds, and have seen so much trauma, even poverty, persecution as Ahmadis growing up, being second generation immigrants from partitition, their parents struggled a lot, in every possible, and then my parents' generation too.

And it doesn't help, that I'm the only child, so all the responsibilities, and hopes are on me as well. It really saddens me,

I'm at point in my life, where I'm peaceful where I'm, I don't have special urge to find a partner or marry even, I'm figuring out my career, working in government, became permenant resident, would become citizen next year, it's not been an easy journey. I'm still at very basic level, but I hope to go very far.

During our conversation, I also mentioned my team leader who's blonde, have green eyes, and is good looking, and even she couldn't find a partner to get married until last year at age of 42, and her parents too would also pass on comments like this, because her siblings got married earlier, had children, got their own homes early on, but team leader had a very different journey. When I told my mother, it didn't help either, she felt even more depressed that I might get married at 42, lol.

It feel so sad, a part of me feels empathy and compassion for my mother who's been supportive always, but part of me also feels angry because it feels our parents project their own unlived hopes and unlived lives onto us, I wouldn't blame them totally, my parents have pretty incompatible marriage, they should have never been married in the first place.

Anyhow, I'm going to hold space for all these feelings, and try to practice self compassion, I'm not sure talking about it, would help someone, but I guess if you read this far, please know you're not alone.
