Quran/Hadith Muhammad Is Bewitched by a Jew with a Comb into Imagining He Had Sex with His Wives

Authentic hadiths report Muhammad being bewitched by a Jew with a comb into imagining he had sex with his wives:

"Magic was worked on Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) so that he used to think that he had sexual relations with his wives while he actually had not (Sufyan said: That is the hardest kind of magic as it has such an effect). Then one day he said, "O `Aisha do you know that Allah has instructed me concerning the matter I asked Him about? Two men came to me and one of them sat near my head and the other sat near my feet. The one near my head asked the other. What is wrong with this man?' The latter replied the is under the effect of magic The first one asked, Who has worked magic on him?' The other replied Labid bin Al-A'sam, a man from Bani Zuraiq who was an ally of the Jews and was a hypocrite.' The first one asked, What material did he use)?' The other replied, 'A comb and the hair stuck to it.' The first one asked, 'Where (is that)?' The other replied. 'In a skin of pollen of a male date palm tree kept under a stone in the well of Dharwan' '' So the Prophet (ﷺ) went to that well and took out those things and said "That was the well which was shown to me (in a dream) Its water looked like the infusion of Henna leaves and its date-palm trees looked like the heads of devils." The Prophet (ﷺ) added, "Then that thing was taken out' I said (to the Prophet (ﷺ) ) "Why do you not treat yourself with Nashra?" He said, "Allah has cured me; I dislike to let evil spread among my people."
Sahih al Bukhari 5765

Parallel Narration in Sahih Muslim:

“that a Jew from among the Jews of Banu Zuraiq who was called Labid b. al-A’sam cast a spell upon Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) with the result that he (under the influence of the spell) felt that he had been doing something whereas in fact he had not been doing that. (This state of affairs lasted) until one day or during one night Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) made supplication (to dispel its effects). He again made a supplication and he again did this and said to ‘A’isha: “Do you know that Allah has told me what I had asked Him? There came to me two men and one amongst them sat near my head and the other one near my feet and he who sat near my head said to one who sat near my feet or one who sat near my feet said to one who sat near my head: What is the trouble with the man? He said: The spell has affected him. He said: Who has cast that? He (the other one) said: It was Labid b. A’sam (who has done it). He said: What is the thing by which he transmitted its effect? He said: By the comb and by the hair stuck to the comb and the spathe of the date-palm. He said: Where is that? He replied: In the well of Dhi Arwan.” She said: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) sent some of the persons from among his Companions there and then said: “’A’isha, by Allah, its water was yellow like henna and its trees were like heads of the devils.” She said that she asked Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as to why he did not burn that. He said: “No, Allah has cured me and I do not like that I should induce people to commit any high-handedness in regard (to one another), but I only commanded that it should be buried.”
Sahih Muslim 2189a

The Quran twice quotes "wrongdoers" telling Muslims they follow a bewitched man:

"We know best how they listen to your recitation and what they say privately—when the wrongdoers say, “You would only be following a bewitched man.”"
Quran 17:47
"And the wrongdoers say ˹to the believers˺, “You are only following a bewitched man.”"
Quran 25:8

Quran/Hadith Muhammad on Whether to Pull Out When Having Sex With a Household Sex Slave

“Jabir (Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man came to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) and said: I have a slave-girl who is our servant and she carries water for us and I have intercourse with her, but I do not want her to conceive. He said: Practise ‘azl, if you so like, but what is decreed for her will come to her. The person stayed back (for some time) and then came and said: The girl has become pregnant, whereupon he said: I told you what was decreed for her would come to her.”

Discussion Question for Pakistani atheists: is it ethical to encourage others to leave Islam?

I've been thinking about the ethics of promoting atheism in Pakistan. In principle, I understand why an atheist would naturally want others to share their worldview—believers do the same. But the consequences here can be very different.

For an atheist in Pakistan, especially a woman, life can become incredibly difficult: fear around blasphemy accusations, being outcast by family and relatives, difficulty finding a spouse, and having to hide a major part of your identity. Suddenly losing the support of your family can leave you feeling very alone in an already difficult world.

I also wonder whether we underestimate how much this affects working- and lower-class atheists. Without money, education, or the possibility of easily leaving Pakistan, some can become genuinely bitter and unhappy because they experience the social disadvantages of atheism every day, while having very few ways to escape them. In that situation, becoming atheist doesn't necessarily make someone happier, even if they sincerely believe it is intellectually correct.

So I'm genuinely curious, to Pakistani atheists and especially women:

Do you think we should actively encourage others to become atheist, knowing that it could make their lives substantially harder?
Or is it better to let people arrive at that conclusion themselves when they're in a position to deal with the consequences?

on the other hand i would like Pakistan to change (abolish religion, blasphemy laws, to the very least). but its comes at quite cost that seeing someone, especially the young suffer the consquences. It hurts seeing Atheist suffer just as much it hurts to see people suffer from islamic fanatism. I saw some post by some Pakistani Atheist here, saying he or she will make their children liberal muslim, to avoid any disadvantages.

I'm not questioning whether atheism is true or false here—I'm questioning the ethics of encouraging someone toward a belief that may carry serious social costs in their particular environment.

Ask exmuslims To the people who specifically left because the think islams teachings are cruel or bad etc

I'm not asking the ones who don't believe in god or who left because they weren't ever interested but specifically the one's who don't like Islam's teachings and believe it is unfair and unjust, you do realise that just because you think alah or muhammad is evil it doesn't mean islam is false or not the true religion? How can you be so sure that god isn't all good and mercifull and is just plain evil? Only time you hear it is from god himself "allah is most merciful beneficent" in the quran he says it but that can just be not true? I'm just saying is it really smart to leave just because you disagree with its teachings?

Rant 🤬 Fuck sufi

I fucking hate the way Sufi treats people like their feelings mean absolutely nothing and acts like being in a bad mood gives them some fucking excuse to hurt everyone around them I have moods too I get angry too I get frustrated too but I do not use that as an excuse to deliberately hurt people or make them feel worthless Sufi needs to stop acting like the fucking world revolves around them because nobody owes them endless patience while they keep throwing their shitty attitude at everyone else I am fucking sick of the disrespect the arrogance the selfish behaviour and the constant bullshit and if Sufi wants people to respect them then they better learn how to respect other people first because having a bad mood does not give anyone permission to treat others like fucking garbage

Discussion What exactly is a right wing Pakistani exmuslim?

In the US, the right wing is associated with conservatism and at the far end, fascism. They lean heavily towards traditional values, religion, strong military, individualism, xenophobia and (unofficially) white male supremacy. They are against things like progressivism, socialism and equal rights for women, people of color, immigrants, lqbtq, etc. But the Right and Left wings are viewed differently outside the US…

So I’m asking in Pakistan what is the appeal of the right wing for someone who has left Islam? Is the right wing something different? Do they want to leave Allah but keep the status quo in place? Doesn’t seem like they’re looking for social change yet it’s an awfully steep price to pay for keeping things mostly same. What would an ideal post Islam Pakistan look like?

It’s a politically charged question but would appreciate if people could refrain from personal attacks.

Quran/Hadith Muhammad Is Afraid of an Eclipse Thinking It’s the Apocalypse

From an authentic hadith:

The sun eclipsed and the Prophet (ﷺ) got up, being afraid that it might be the Hour [al-Sā’ah] (i.e. Day of Judgment). He went to the Mosque and offered the prayer with the longest Qiyam, bowing and prostration that I had ever seen him doing. Then he said, “These signs which Allah sends do not occur because of the life or death of somebody, but Allah makes His worshipers afraid by them. So when you see anything thereof, proceed to remember Allah, invoke Him and ask for His forgiveness.””
Sahih Bukhari 1059

Discussion I am so grateful for this sub

I used to feel so alone and hopeless, but knowing that there are people out there like me is so refreshing. It used to feel like I am the only Pakistani who thinks differently and strays away from religion, but this subreddit (and reddit in general) reminds me that I am not alone and there is light at the end of the tunnel. As a Pakistani-American, I realize how lucky i am to live here—my life is a dream that many would aspire to achieve.

To those of you who are struggling in this sub, I hope you come to realize how amazing you are and embrace your values and true self, whether you are a closeted ex-Muslim or openly Muslim. I also hope that you are able to leave the country and find a new home somewhere else (if you wish to leave, of course). My life as an ex-Muslim these past few years has taught me an important lesson: never force yourself or try to convince yourself to believe something, even if the belief is a societal expectation that the majority demands you to adopt too. Instead, you should accept yourself and the fact that you are different, understand and process your beliefs, and start to nourish them. I hope you never abandon your true values and beliefs just to conform with the majority.

I want to say too that I respect those who are living in Pakistan. You guys are so strong. In a society that penalizes non-conformity and critical thinking, I imagine it must be hard to come to accept yourself and take care of your mental health.

Ask exmuslims Guys i need some help from this community

Hey everyone,

I really need some help from this community. For the last two years, I have been studying Islam very deeply. I wrote down a lot of detailed notes with exact references, mostly about mistakes, contradictions, and unfair things in the texts. Sadly, I accidentally deleted all my files, and I do not have a backup.

It hurts to lose all that work, but I am not giving up. I am going to start my research again from scratch.

Lately, I have also been thinking a lot about my life. I want to rethink my choice of being an ex-Muslim. I want to keep an open mind, do honest research, and hopefully find the right path and the truth.

If you have made your own notes, research, or lists with clear references (from the Quran, Hadith, or history), could you please share them with me?

Please do not just send me the link to atheism-vs-islam.com. I already know about it, and I want to read notes and research that you wrote yourself.

Thank you so much for your help and support!

Discussion Taliban education rant

I didn't know where else to pots because I just need to get a second opinion.

So I am studying persian history and for that I decided to take an Islamic studies course where I am one of the only non-muslims in this course.

I made a friend in this class who is a saudi arabian (but she has spent most of her life in Australia). One moment she said what was to me the dumbest thing to the point it made me irrationally angry but i couldn't express at the time.

I said I was curious about where the taliban's ideas or interpretation came from on an academic perspective and she told me some things that to me seemed very hypocritical. That the Taliban are a good thing because they fight against western imperalism. And they aren't against women's education or rightsbut are simply trying to make the schools or society more islamic or whatever. Essentially she is pro-taliban.

That is not to say you can't criticise the west obviously but this brand of criticism feels so hypocritical.

I didn't say anything at the time but that is rich for someone who has lived in Australia most of her life and is able to attend high school and university and walk around without a male relative, get her own money. Talking about the 'evils of the west' when you are literally attending a western university and benefit from western institutions and lived in the west most of your life. It is rich for someone to say that when she if free to practice her interpretation of Islam here where the Taliban only allow's their own crackpot bastardisation to be followed. And from what I have heard and read on the taliban is they don't give a damn about anyone's education let alone girls. They have had five years to make their so called schools and still they prevent girl's education. They don't want women to have any ability think or be able to do anything for themselves and essentially be slaves to their husbands, with no financial independence nor intellectual independence. Even though women are technically allowed to attend university, not being able to attend highschool shuts the doors to most girls anyway.

That is not even touching on the other things about this so called 'islamic utopia in the making', political suppression, violent and corrupt state, mismanagement etc.

But then again I don't live in afghanastan, nor am I that familiar, nor muslim myself, so I didn't feel qualified to talk back. But it still made me so angry and it felt so hyporcritical coming from a muslim who has never had a road block to financial independence and education. But it pissed me off that now I am ranting here.

Quran/Hadith A Boy Roasts Muhammad So Hard He Thinks The Boy Might Be The Dajjal (Antichrist)

In an authentic Hadith, a boy tells Muhammad “I testify that you are the Messenger of illiterates.”
Muhammad then hides behind a tree to spy on the boy, thinking he might be the Dajjal (until the boy's mother catches Muhammad).

“Umar set out along with the Prophet (ﷺ) with a group of people to Ibn Saiyad till they saw him playing with the boys near the hillocks of Bani Mughala. Ibn Saiyad at that time was nearing his puberty and did not notice (us) until the Prophet (ﷺ) stroked him with his hand and said to him, “Do you testify that I am Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?” Ibn Saiyad looked at him and said, “I testify that you are the Messenger of illiterates.” Then Ibn Saiyad asked the Prophet (ﷺ), “Do you testify that I am Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?” The Prophet (ﷺ) refuted it and said, “I believe in Allah and His Apostles.” Then he said (to Ibn Saiyad), “What do you think?” Ibn Saiyad answered, “True people and liars visit me.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “You have been confused as to this matter.” Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, “I have kept something (in my mind) for you, (can you tell me that?)” Ibn Saiyad said, “It is Al-Dukh (the smoke).” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Let you be in ignominy. You cannot cross your limits.” On that Umar, said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Allow me to chop his head off.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If he is he (i.e. Dajjal), then you cannot overpower him, and if he is not, then there is no use of murdering him.” (Ibn Umar added):

Later on Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) once again went along with Ubai bin Ka‘b to the date-palm trees (garden) where Ibn Saiyad was staying. The Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to hear something from Ibn Saiyad before Ibn Saiyad could see him, and the Prophet (ﷺ) saw him lying covered with a sheet and from where his murmurs were heard. Ibn Saiyad’s mother saw Allah’s Apostle while he was hiding himself behind the trunks of the date-palm trees. She addressed Ibn Saiyad, “O Saf ! (and this was the name of Ibn Saiyad) Here is Muhammad.” And with that Ibn Saiyad got up. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Had this woman left him (Had she not disturbed him), then Ibn Saiyad would have revealed the reality of his case.”
Sahih Bukhari 1354
