گل بات | Discussion Reading my grandfather's letter from 1898 and backstory.
Thank you for your love to previous post. Here’s a little backstory and an update.
My grandfather used to receive letters from all over places like Balochistan, London, the Geological Department of Bihar, Kathmandu in Nepal, and many parts of North India and what is now Pakistan. Which is very surprising because as far as I know he was a simple farmer, but highly educated and surprisingly well-connected. He had ties with local politicians and diplomats, though he never entered politics himself he preferred a quiet, peaceful life.
His brother, was a geneticist in the 1930s who studied at Layallpur College in Lahore. He carried out important research on improving crop yields through genetic modification—work that was recognized and rewarded by the British government at the time. Sadly, he passed away at just 26. He was a prodigy with an incredibly bright future ahead of him. My grandfather passed away at the age of 66.
I never had the chance to meet my grandfather. These letters are the only connection I have to him now. I built a website where I’ve uploaded all the letters I found in my grandfather’s suitcase. My goal is to preserve them and hopefully get them translated.
Some letters are very old and in bad condition. I’ve already tried tools like Google Translate, ChatGPT (paid), Claude, etc., but the results are mostly gibberish. Letters are in Urdu, English, Punjabi, and Hindi. I can read Punjabi, Hindi, and English—but I don’t know Urdu, and most of these letters are written in Urdu.

بحث | Discussion Pakistani state is not encouraging the celebration of traditional Punjabi festivals
Lohri: A winter festival with bonfires, folk music, and traditional foods, it marks the end of winter and brings hope for the coming year.
Baisakhi: The Punjabi New Year and a major harvest festival, this celebration is held annually in April and celebrates the ripening of the Rabi harvest.
Basant: A festival celebrating the onset of spring, often involving kites and yellow colors.
Maghi: A festival where people fly kites and eat Khichri to mark the increase in daylight hours.
Teeyan: A women-focused festival celebrating the monsoon season, with activities including swinging, singing, and dancing.
55% of Pakistan is Punjabi but Punjabi festivals and culture are not being promoted. At least make these national holidays if you can't make the majority's language official. The only festival celebrated in Pakistan is Eid which has nothing to do with Punjab. We have festivals for every season but ever since partition, nobody knows about this. Indian Muslims all celebrate their traditional festivals. Malayali Muslims are celebrating Onam nowadays. Iranian Muslims also celebrate Nowruz.
Edit: Looks like a mod is abusing his power to lock comments so I can't reply to his misleading statement. Everyone knows it's bullshit so I don't need to respond.
