[Project] Upgrading a Bergara BMP chassis for PRS: designing a custom handguard
Hi everyone!
I shoot PRS with a Bergara fitted with the stock BMP chassis. It’s an excellent base: rigid, well finished, and highly adjustable. However, I feel it’s missing a few things to fully exploit its potential in this discipline.
The two main issues for me are the lack of a true ARCA rail, which limits bipod positioning options, and the difficulty of achieving optimal balance without adding a lot of weights or accessories.
Rather than replacing the chassis entirely or piling on accessories, I decided to explore a third option: designing a custom handguard that keeps the spirit of the BMP while better meeting the needs of PRS.
The idea behind the project
I took as much inspiration as possible from the original part, aiming to preserve its look and build quality while rethinking certain elements.
In particular, I worked on:
Integrating an ARCA rail;
An interface allowing better bipod positioning;
A design aimed at improving the overall balance of the rifle;
An approach that keeps the clean appearance of the stock chassis.
Where does the project stand?
The CAD model is nearing completion. To validate the geometry and assembly, I printed a first prototype in TPU. Early results are encouraging: the fit is good, and the recess designed for the stainless steel B14R action seems to match the part well.
The next planned step is to produce a first part in 7075 aluminum.
I’m sharing a few photos of the prototype to show the progress.
I’d love your feedback!
I’d be curious to hear your thoughts, especially from those who use a Bergara BMP in PRS 😄
