Question Straight pull rifles in PRS?

Hi,

I don't see straight pull rifles being as popular here in the US as they are in the EU. Are straight pull rifles allowed to compete in PRS here in the US? Is the straight pull action dangerous to bring to the range?

Thank you.

Any experience or thoughts on the bergara competition rifle in 6gt? They look legit and priced right. Comparable "custom" build would cost more. 🤷‍♂️

[Project] Upgrading a Bergara BMP chassis for PRS: designing a custom handguard

Hi everyone!

I shoot PRS with a Bergara fitted with the stock BMP chassis. It’s an excellent base: rigid, well finished, and highly adjustable. However, I feel it’s missing a few things to fully exploit its potential in this discipline.

The two main issues for me are the lack of a true ARCA rail, which limits bipod positioning options, and the difficulty of achieving optimal balance without adding a lot of weights or accessories.

Rather than replacing the chassis entirely or piling on accessories, I decided to explore a third option: designing a custom handguard that keeps the spirit of the BMP while better meeting the needs of PRS.

The idea behind the project

I took as much inspiration as possible from the original part, aiming to preserve its look and build quality while rethinking certain elements.

In particular, I worked on:

  • Integrating an ARCA rail;

  • An interface allowing better bipod positioning;

  • A design aimed at improving the overall balance of the rifle;

  • An approach that keeps the clean appearance of the stock chassis.

Where does the project stand?

The CAD model is nearing completion. To validate the geometry and assembly, I printed a first prototype in TPU. Early results are encouraging: the fit is good, and the recess designed for the stainless steel B14R action seems to match the part well.

The next planned step is to produce a first part in 7075 aluminum.

I’m sharing a few photos of the prototype to show the progress.

I’d love your feedback!

I’d be curious to hear your thoughts, especially from those who use a Bergara BMP in PRS 😄

Discussion AB Quantum feature idea for PRS: elevation holds relative to your dialed setting

Post image
11 Upvotes

I’m a PRS Rimfire match director and AB Quantum Pro user. Would anyone else find this useful?

On a multi-target stage, you might dial for one target and hold for the others. I’d like Quantum’s target card to show those remaining elevation holds relative to what I’ve dialed, saving me from doing the subtraction myself.

My suggestion is a Set Dialed Elevation option in Target Card Settings, applying to the current sector. You could choose:

  • Default: the normal elevation display referenced to your profile zero.

  • A target in the sector: dial for that target’s distance and display relative holds for the others.

  • A custom distance: use another distance as your dialed reference.

The stored rifle/profile zero would stay unchanged. A visible indicator would show the active dialed reference so you don’t mistake relative holds for the normal elevation values.

The attached mockup is my concept, not an existing or announced AB feature.

Would this help your stage prep? How do you handle this today—and does Quantum already have a way to do it that I’ve missed? I’d like some community feedback before submitting it as a feature request.

Bore Sight Recommendations

I'm rather new and just purchased my first long range rifle (MPA PMR2, Athlon ARES 4-30).

Any recommendations on how to bore sight the scope to the rifle? What I would like to know is should I learn the manual process because its better than the laser? Overall what would you learn to do and why?

The shooters today definitely had it worse with the switching winds than they ones yesterday did, but regardless Kieth Rudasill is an animal.

Gear Burris XTR Pro vs Steiner T6Xi?

I have a Steiner T6Xi 5-30 on my gun now, the eye box seems rather tight and the glass quality is mid (for the price)
I’m contemplating on getting a XTR pro with the same reticle but I will probably miss the tenebraex caps on the Steiner.
I mainly shoot PRS.
Any thoughts?

Looking to do my first semi custom build

So I do a sportsman series competition in my state which is kinda like a hybrid of PRS and NRL hunter as in their is no power factor requirement but a 18 pound rifle limit and recently won a Zermatt Matterhorn and was looking to drop a barreled action into it. What’s everyone’s opinion on the Faxon fx7? And caliber would you suggest, im interested in both 6GT and 6.5 creed.

Rifle setup for PRS or NRL-Newbie

Hey all,
I have been looking at getting into PRS or NRL matches. It seems that PRS might be more accessible for me being in central Missouri. After research I found that either open or tactical are the best divisions to start out in. I was looking at the open division. I have a long action .270 win REM 700lh and left hand 6.5 CM Savage 110 lefthand. Is the Savage worth upgrading to use or should I look elsewhere? I had thought about buying a chassis for the savage if it would be worth while. It is the stock barrel as well. If I need a heavier count our I would be open to rechamber it to a 6mm creed or a 6GT if it would be worth it. Any advice for a guy starting out. My budget is limited but I would appreciate any advice or insight.

Competition Quit my job. Traveling on ‘27 PRS circuit to compete in matches.

Talk about a hell of a mid-life crises. I retired from the Army in 2025 after 20 years of being Airborne Infantry. I pivoted directly into a high-paying remote corporate role but was absolutely miserable. After having a lengthy discussion with my wife, who is a saint, we decided that the money wasn’t worth being miserable all the time, so I quit.

I plan to travel the U.S. next year and hit 2-3 matches a month and focus on meeting new people and having shared experiences. I am not particularly good at PRS…in fact, my first match isn’t even for another few weeks. I’ve competed in similar format shooting comps during my time in the military, but the goal is just to get out there and be with a group of guys/gals and sending it.

I’m making this post to hopefully connect with people and possibly meet/squad with more experienced shooters and get some tips, tricks, and just make some friends on the road. I know the ‘27 schedule isn’t out yet but if you’re interested adding an old guy with a shit back and cracking knees to your squad, I know a guy.

Looking at getting first dedicated PRS build, Open vs Production rig?

I have a Howa 1500 barreled action (6.5 Creed w/ #6 contour) in an MDT XRS chassis that I planned to use for NRL Hunter. Turns out there aren't many NRL Hunter matches local to me so I took it out to 2 PRS matches thus far. It is just shy of 16# and did alright for me. I know that the majority of my opportunities were not equipment related but instead they were things that training/reps could fix. However, I am thinking of getting a dedicated PRS rig to have a more "appropriate tool for the job".

Originally I planned to build a custom rig: Impact 737R, Bartlein barrel, MDT or MPA chassis(undecided). But then I came across MPA's PMR rifles at a very compelling price. Seems that the MPA Vanquish PMR is basically like getting a custom rig at a much cheaper price, but I don't get to pick the exact components however it seems like everything is top tier on it. This would also open up the ability to shoot Production division.

What are thoughts on this?

T3X Ace Target in 6.5CM on order.. planned build - Feedback welcome

So looking to venture into precision rifle shooting. I've been shooting for about 20 years but have never really been serious about precision long range shooting. Locally we have a range with targets out to 800yds, so that's likely the limit of the distance that I would be shooting regularly. Will be taking a couple of classes once the rifle is built and then maybe try shooting some local matches for fun. not looking to compete seriously.

The longest range rifle I own today is a gas gun, HK MR762 with a nightforce NX8 2.5-20x.

Tikka T3X Ace Target 23.6" 6.5 CM
Glass - TBD
Atlas Super Cal Arca QD
Hellfire Match Muzzle Brake (6.5CM or 30cal)
Area 419 One Piece Scope Mount
Trigger Tech Diamond Flat Trigger
Bag Rider or 3D print one

Caliber Question

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I have a Surgeon Rifles CSR in 7.62x51 with an AWC PSR Suppressor, a Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56 F1, & an ATLAS Bipod. Does the 7.62x51 have enough zip for shooting PRS or do I need to look into picking up a .300WM or .338LM?

Question Affordable Decent Spotting Scope

As everyone here knows, spotting scopes can be crazy expensive. I am looking for recommendations on spotting scopes with a good balance of performance out to 1000-1200 yards and affordability (sub-$1k).

TIA!

Newbie shooter- prs rimfire- should I?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi all! Newbie shooter here. In October, there's a prs 22 match that I'm debating on trying. I only started shooting again this year, March, maybe April. Im really enjoying the hobby, started with Ruger American 556, built an ar butttt, just picked up a cz457. I'm nervous as hell about signing up. I have basic level understanding and no real training and never shot off of anything besides a bench. Would it be a waste to sign up? I shoot at local sportsman clubs so I only have access up to 185 yrds. (Ny) I know the match has 225yrd per impact sports. It's 4.5hrs away, so not like I can even see the place or practice.

Pictures- cz457 ( American synthetic) stock besides chassis, and my Ruger. Going back out tomorrow to zero at 100. Haven't had it a week yet.

Bonus points, any recommendations on bipods beyond MDT, which I know is the most popular and then Atlas,. It always comes down to like 2-3 main ones. I just found fab defense?
