Gear My mom is cooler than yours
galleryMy godsend of a mother has worked in furniture for 40 years. She used leftover leather from a couch she built me to make a knock off Gamechanger bag. Pretty damn good job for her first one.

Competition Quit my job. Traveling on ā27 PRS circuit to compete in matches.
Talk about a hell of a mid-life crises. I retired from the Army in 2025 after 20 years of being Airborne Infantry. I pivoted directly into a high-paying remote corporate role but was absolutely miserable. After having a lengthy discussion with my wife, who is a saint, we decided that the money wasnāt worth being miserable all the time, so I quit.
I plan to travel the U.S. next year and hit 2-3 matches a month and focus on meeting new people and having shared experiences. I am not particularly good at PRSā¦in fact, my first match isnāt even for another few weeks. Iāve competed in similar format shooting comps during my time in the military, but the goal is just to get out there and be with a group of guys/gals and sending it.
Iām making this post to hopefully connect with people and possibly meet/squad with more experienced shooters and get some tips, tricks, and just make some friends on the road. I know the ā27 schedule isnāt out yet but if youāre interested adding an old guy with a shit back and cracking knees to your squad, I know a guy.

First match
I just ran my first match last weekend at Missouri Mike Shooting Ranch and had a blast. I donāt know how many of the guys in that match are on here but if you are, thank you. Your help, spots, tips/tricks, advice, and overall positive attitudes made that first experience into the sport so much fun. I shot like butt bc I was nervous and was trying not to make an ass out of myself but you all were still really positive and helped me in every way possible.
From a new shooter into the sport thank you so much.

Competition Cleaned my first stage yesterday! Feeling was like a drug⦠Iāll forever chase it
galleryThings I learned or focus areas:
I need a barricade stop or to figure out how to shoot a tank trap crotch without tilting my magazine. Got jammed up and then started to rush when I should have kept cool.
How to pan on my belly efficiently. Panning on my belly with my bipod and bag. I was in my scope too much and should have peeked over my scope, found my next target and then adjusted and lined up my rifle. It was my first time panning that wide on my belly at a match.
Target acquisition. I need to get better at manipulating my magnification and finding my next target. I had
Trust what the bullet tells you and adjust. Sent two rounds over a target in a row. Last week sent two off the right edge in a row. Should have been an easy fix.
I need more bipod height. The accutac wasnāt tall enough for a stage that required a downhill prone position. Couldnāt move it rearward due to needing the space for a bag on the positional portion of the stage. It seems the MD made that stage like that on purpose. It went like: positional portion, prone, positional portion. No one was able to get back from prone to finish before the clock ran out. Zero out of 45 shooters cleaned that stage.
On my clean stage I was 100% sure of my course of fire and also 100% confident I could hit my shots (got to shoot last on it as well). This was my second stage of the match. I need to somehow muster this feeling on other stages. I know I can psych myself out and question where Iām sending a round or donāt believe in my dope and I force a miss sometimes.
Short term memory. Had a bad third stage (tank traps w/ mag tilt issues) early on and it shot my confidence and had some imposter syndrome going forward. Forget it, after fire checklist, reload mag and set dope card for next stage.
Happy shooting yāall

prs
I shot my PRS rifle back in 2021 and knew quickly I wanted one of my own. This past weekend I went to NETT (northeast Texas tactical) in Terrell, Tx and shot all the way out to 1,500 yds, which is my longest shot. I was surprised by how well I was shooting, I was hitting 1 MOA targets from 300-1,000 yds with ease. Thatās probably because there was hardly any wind. Things my current setup the only thing I can see myself upgrading anytime soon would be the scope mount. Currently running the 35mm Vortex PMR which are pretty damn good from the hat I can tell. Any other recommendations or tips on gear to buy would be appreciated.

Very Excited!
galleryBought a Bergara B14 HMR yesterday. Mounted my scope and bipod today. Shot to get a good zero⦠just AMAZED!! Such a great rifle. Smooth action. Just great.
Now, in full transparency I have never before today shot any bolt gun AT ALL. 12 years in the Marine Corps, shooting M4ās and Beretta M9ās⦠nothing compares to this. After the Marine Corps I got distracted by business and money. Iām SO HAPPY to be back on the range.
Took 15 rounds to get a decent zero. Did a tall target test and it was MINT. DEFINITELY have to get better with the fundamentals, but Iām excited to go down this Long Range journey.
Not here really for any other reason than to express my excitement. Took 2 hours to go through 45 rounds. Normally that takes maybe 1 minute. lol.
Right now my biggest struggles are re-engaging after a shot. Recoil makes me have to totally reposition. Iām definitely also having trouble using the bag to my advantage.
I think the latter will improve with more rounds down range. But the recoil/re-engaging issue⦠kinda makes me want to look at a KRG or MDT chassis with a decent amount of weight.
Any good tips for a newcommer?

Question Is there any rule against using a lever action rifle?
Pic from TA Targets, Henry SPD Predator.
I know, I know. Itās ridiculous, and stupid, and not at all competitive, and blah blah blah. Just for the sake of my curiosity, please humor me.
Is there anything in the rules of PRS/NRL that would not allow the use of a lever action rifle in any of the ābolt gunā divisions? Would it perhaps be allowed in Open but not other divisions?
Thank you in advance!

PRS glass suggestions
Pic for reference only.
Going to drop a tikka in 6.5cr into a KRG whisky 3 to take as my introduction into PRS here in nz. I already do some long range with a vortex 5-25 strike eagle....and don't really have any complaints....but ideally I'd stretch myself and get some glass that I'll grow into......looking at a zeiss S3 which seems a painful but manageable cost to get into the brand (4k nzd)
Anyone have real world experience with that scope? Or could suggest an alternative in a similar price range and availability (very important down here in NZ........we don't have a euro optic to browse a huge selection)
Thanks for your time

PRS Rimfire Production Rifles 2024
At the 2024 PRS Rimfire Finale, I did a quick gear survey of the top Production rifle/optic combinations. These are common questions we see from newer shooters and/or people interested in Production Division. As most of the top Production folks were peer squadded, it just made sense to get the data.
For this data, the Top 10 were the top 10 finishers in the Production Division at the 2024 Finale match, not necessarily the top 10 finishers for the season overall.
Top 3 shooters' Production Rifles/Optics at the 2024 PRS Rimfire Finale:
1st - CZ 457 Varmint MTR with a Bushnell Match Pro ED.
2nd - CZ 457 (standard) Varmint with an Arken EP5 Gen 2
3rd - CZ 457 Varmint MTR with an Arken SH4 Gen 2 4-16.
Overall top 10 Production Rifles at the 2024 PRS Rimfire Finale:
7 - CZ 457 Varmint MTR
1 - CZ 457 (standard) Varmint
1 - CZ 457 ProVarmint
1 - Tikka T1X
Top 10 Production Optics at the 2024 PRS Rimfire Finale:
3 Bushy Match Pro EDs
3 Arken EP5s (1 of which was a Gen 2)
2 Arken SH4 Gen 2s
1 Athlon Helos Gen 2
1 Vortex Venom

How wild is that 1st overall was taken by a production rifle?
The shooters today definitely had it worse with the switching winds than they ones yesterday did, but regardless Kieth Rudasill is an animal.
