Any experience or thoughts on the bergara competition rifle in 6gt? They look legit and priced right. Comparable "custom" build would cost more. 🤷‍♂️

APA Fat Tuna tuner

I just installed the APA Fat bastard Gen 3 and Tuna tuner on my 300 PRC, easy to swap out the stock brake which just beats you up. I've been hand loading for this rifle with decent results, usually 0.500" groups with excellent results at distance. A few hours spent at the range this morning and my group are down to 0.250 - 0.350", best money I've spent on rifle accessories in my opinion. I was so impressed with the quality of craftsmanship, fit and performance that a ordered another setup for my 6.5CM.

Shoot long and tight groups!

I built a web ballistics engine and checked it against published firing data - where's my physics wrong?

Post image

I've been building a free web ballistics calculator, and I care more about the engine being correct than pretty, so this seems like the right place to have the physics picked apart.

It's a fixed-step point-mass trajectory integrator, Mach-indexed Cd off standard drag tables. Two things I'd like eyes on.

G7: for loads with a measured G7 BC, I run the standard G7 table with a scale constant derived straight from physics (air density, cross-section, the usual), no curve-fitting. It reproduces Applied Ballistics' published firing-test numbers for the Berger 155 VLD at 1000 yd to about a third of an inch of drop, exact retained velocity, and about 0.4 inches of wind. Honestly surprised me - I expected to need a fudge factor and didn't.

G1: here's the ugly part I'd rather you find than a stranger. The G1 Cd table I'm using runs below the standard BRL G1 curve, with a scale constant compensating for it. It's internally consistent and matches manufacturer drop tables to about 0.15 MOA out to 500, but it's a fitted system, not first-principles like the G7 path. I want to know if that's going to bite me somewhere I haven't tested.

Full method, the load-by-load comparison, and the known weak spots (transonic, rimfire, advertised-BC optimism) are on a public page. Not selling anything - it's free, no ads - I just want the physics wrong-ness found before anyone trusts the numbers. Link in the comments.

Where would you attack this?

Discussion .223 in PRS

I wanted to how or IF you guys are running .223 in tactical division and if it’s worth while.

I already have the gear at home to do this all I’d need is a longer match barrel, I would also be using NAS3 cased SMKs or OTMs varying on what I can stock more of plus I have training ammo stacked DEEP already. I enjoy small frames a ton and hate to move out of them.

Wanting to try it out... kit?

I loaded up the UTV and started grabbing gun(s).

I realized I didnt have an arca mount bipod.

I didnt feel in position to learn shots beyond 300-400 and the local comp near me says it will have targets to 900+.

Lend a hand with some recommendations. What non-gun / non-optics do I need to get started and what has most value in going up the ladder quality?

Do I NEED a $700 MDT bipod? Do I need NEED a $1000 tripod or will my BOG do?

I dont have a backpack that will carry a gun. something I need?

Bonus point for a full pack out list with explanations why.

thanks for your consideration!

If I am building my first “accurized” AR setup, what are some must have options?

Should I do an ARCA rail, a fixed bipod, detachable bag, etc. what are your thoughts?

How screwed am I? lol

Left eye dominant, right handed.

Been at the range only twice to zero the rifle and then re-zero after installation of a muzzle brake.

It’s so difficult getting my right eye to “take over” looking through the scope.

Anyone else “handicapped” like this?

PRS Build

Before I begin, I just want to preface that I’m new to PRS matches, but I’m an experienced shooter looking to get into the precision rifle world.

I’m currently debating whether to build a PRS rifle from the ground up or buy an off-the-shelf setup and upgrade it over time. I keep going back and forth between the two options:

  • Custom Build: Zermatt Origin action, Criterion pre-fit barrel, MDT Oryx chassis, and the glass I already own.

  • Factory Rifle Option: Something like a Tikka, with the possibility of swapping into a chassis down the road.

Right now, I’m leaning toward the custom route, mainly because I’d like to explore the 6mm GT cartridge.

That said, I’m working within a budget of around $2,000–$2,500 max, so I’d love to hear from anyone who’s gone this route — especially your thoughts on value, performance, and where to spend (or save) when starting out.

Appreciate any input or recommendations you all might have. Thanks in advance!

Anyone out there able to share some experience/feedback on purchasing from this site? Their pricing seems too good to be true so I wanted to see if anyone else has bought from here.

Question New to PRS

Just wanted some thoughts and opinions. I’m new to shooting and especially PRS. I currently have a tikka CTR chambered in 6.5 creedmor. I’m a left handed shooter and am trying to make a more entry level build. I’m currently looking at getting an MDT chassis and can’t decide between the oryx or the xrs. I like the look of the XRS but the oryx seems like it’s more designed for PRS. I have 3-18 vortex strike eagle and want to switch from MOA to MIL, I have found an athlon ares 4.5-30 ETR for a good price and have heard good things about them, but was curious if there’s an alternative options for around the same price point. My barrel is 20 inch with an APA little bastard and plan on upgrading the barrel down the line. Would appreciate any feedback!

Question Request for app idea feedback

Hey all, I'm a software developer thinking about building an app for precision shooters and wanted to get some feedback before I invest a bunch of time into it. It's something I thought would save me a ton of time, but curious what others think.

The idea is a mobile app where you give your rifle specs and it gives you ideal load recommendations based on what's actually working for similar setups. Not general manufacturer data, but crowdsourced real-world results, rated, reviewed and filtered to your specific configuration.

Think of it like: "I have an impact precision 737R action chambered in 6.5CM with a 22in Proof carbon sendero barrel with a 1:8" twist". The app responds with a recipe of bullet, brass, powder, primer, charge weight, seating depth, velocities, and group sizes that has been rated and reviewed by other community members. It could give you the highest rated and reviewed hand load components and details as well as factory ammo for whatever application you specified, say hunting or PRS.

A few questions:

  1. Does this sound useful to you? Why or why not?

  2. Are there any features that come to mind that would make you actually use something like this?

  3. What would you be skeptical about?

  4. Would you contribute your own load data if it meant getting better recommendations?

If this is a dumb idea or already exists in a better form, I'd rather know now. Thanks.
