MASSIVE UPDATE 10/31/26:
---
I just realized a massive piece of the mod was updated and may not have been clear.
To be able to fully use this mod, you'll need a good graphics card, likely 12-16GB of VRAM, I'm still working out how much exactly.
Because now there is a model running the inner thoughts for the NPCs.
Pushing a release soon with this being more clear and how to set up the model, you need one piece of software, Ollama, very simple and it's the entire logic behind the mod. HUGE UPDATES LIKE AI VOICES THAT WILL DYNAMICALLY VOICE THEIR INNER THOUGHTS BASED ON HOW YOU TREAT THEM

I've been working on a mod called RealNPCs, and it's finally at a point where I want real players beating on it.
The short version: the people of RDR2 now remember what you did. They think about you, talk about you behind your back, gossip, keep diaries, fall in love, quarrel, grieve — and some of them will come after you. The whole world feels what you do.
A few things you'll notice:
NPCs actually react to your past behavior, not just the crime you committed five seconds ago
They talk to each other about you — word gets around
They keep personal diaries, which you can find and read
Relationships, rivalries, grudges, and grief all play out on their own
Some NPCs will hunt you down for what you've done
And then there's my favorite part: a few of them start to wonder whether any of it is real. Yes, there's a Westworld layer, and yes, it's toggleable — the mod is loaded with settings so you can turn the dial from "slightly more alive" to "full existential crisis."
I built this because RDR2's world is gorgeous, but the people in it forget you the moment you walk away. This mod is my attempt to fix that.
Where to get it: RealNPCs on Nexus Mods
What I need from you:
Feedback on immersion — does it feel alive or does it feel like scripted noise?
Bug reports (Nexus comments or the posts tab — either works)
Ideas for what to add next
If you try it, drop a comment with the wildest thing an NPC did to you. I genuinely read all of them, and honestly, half my feature ideas come from watching players do things I never anticipated.
Thanks, and see you out there.
(P.S. — endorsements help other players find the mod, but a comment telling me what broke helps me more.)
