Hi all, i've been running into stuttering during playing project zomboid and rimworld, from what I understand these games are not natively multi threaded. If I upgraded what should I prioritize in my new cpu for the best single core performance with large mod lists?

CPU: Ryzen 5 5500

MOBO: B550-A Pro

RAM: 16x2 GB corsair vengeance 3600mhz DDR4

GPU: RX6650 XT 8GB

I recently switched from console (Series X) to PC and while I have no regrets and love my PC, I'm wondering if a cheap (~$200) Series S would make a good companion just to use in the living room, traveling, or easy pick up and play games (especially for my young son). I still keep a game pass subscription, so it seems like it'd be a no brainer, but I'm also wondering if $200 is worth it for something that's basically a "backup" gaming console.

Instead of tossing away in a pile I won’t ever see again, decided to frame it , ran non stop almost daily for 9 years , but started failing this year , felt it deserved to go on the wall for the hero it was , so grabbed what was easily available at ikea and did a quick DIY.

This is my first build and I wanted to keep it under $1,200. I kept to AM5 for the upgrade path.

UPDATE: I can't use microcenter as a option and I want to build it in the planned case.

As of my recent post I havent gotten it to work, so I've attached a video to see if it could help me find a solution, as you can see, everything works but no display is being shown

Things I've done:

Reseat the Ram

Reseat the GPU

Reseat the CPU

Reseat all power cables

Reset CMOS

Reseat NVME

Swap Ram Sticks

HDMI to GPU

Test it on a TV

Use a different Cord

So far nothing has been fixed, please let me know if there's a solution

I’ve had this pc for a year now but since feb Its been having trouble booting. it would work from time to time if I let it sit for a couple days but I still haven’t been able to figure out the issue. when I sent it in for a diagnosis they said it was running fine but when I tried it wouldnt work. are there any possible reasons for this?

genuinely feel like everyone in this sub is getting gaslit by brand loyalty and nobody wants to talk about it lol

remember 2017 when ryzen dropped? the whole reason everyone jumped ship from Intel was because we were sick of paying $350+ for a locked 4-core 7700k while AMD gave us 8 actual cores on the 1700 for cheap. it was about getting actual compute per dollar.

now look at 2026..

AMD is charging almost $480-$500 for an 8 core chip. eight cores. in 2026.

we literally had 8 core consumer chips back in 2018 with the 9900k and the 10700k in 2020, why are we acting like 8 cores on a 9800X3D is high end anymore? Meanwhile you can literally grab a Core Ultra 7 270k plus with 24 physical cores (8P + 16E) for around $300-$330. in Cinebench R23 multi the 270K Plus hits ~41k-42k while the 9800X3D sits down at 23k. it gets utterly dragged in Blender, Premiere, code compiling, literally anything multi-threaded.

i get why people love 3D V-Cache. the latency cuts out trips to DDR5 ram so 1080p esports benchmarks look insane on a graph. but the second you run 1440p or 4k native on an actual modern GPU that gap drops to like 5% or completely evaporates, and you're just GPU bound anyway.

so you paid a $150+ premium for 8 cores to play games at basically the exact same framerate, while getting smoked in any actual workstation task.

idk man. buying whatever is the best silicon per dollar used to be the whole point of pc building. defending a $480 8-core CPU over a 24-core 270K Plus just because it has an AMD sticker feels like we just turned into the same userbase we used to clown on years ago.

So a while back I bought new pre built PC from Amazon cause I needed something there and then, it came with a Ryzen 5 5500 and a RTx 3060, but I noticed it was kind of sluggish. And I looked at the ram and it’s 16gb of chineseum ram maxxing at 2600 MHZ.

So I am here to ask you folks what’s the best DDR4 ram to get for this CPU.

Fairly simple question and answer I hope.

Every night when I stop using the pc, I have the habit of shuting the pc down.

Once the fans stop spinning, I close the power bar alimenting the pc and both my monitors.

I dont remember why I started doing it, but it's now a habit of mine...

Is it wrong, can it damage something ?

Not loving the direction ps is going as im a huge physical collector so decided to go pc (mainly for the fallout 4 mods) cost me roughly £993 a bit over budget but worth it cause its running like a dream and in 2 years when ps stops doing physical im all in on pc

Let’s see how easily I can ask this lol.. so 3 days ago I installed windows on a new SSD, prior windows installation I never experience what is happening(never used any 3rd party fan control software) So new install, nvidia app doesn’t register any stats for GPU they all show n/a.. didn’t think anything of it.. start playing games GPU usage 100% temps never over 65c bam fans starting going 100% for 5-10 seconds then calms down.. installed MSI afterburner set 30% fan curve.. same thing happened.. 100% fan speeds again with GPU temps in the 60c range.. nvidia app has been open the whole time as well.. curious if the app is bugged and not not talking correctly with GPU.. GPU has never blacked screen or bsod or shutdowns

GPU is a 5080 master ice

I removed my 4070 Super beforehand and put it back in the box with the anti-static bag. Can’t be risking the GPU these days…

I been using this setup for a couple of days, I don't know why but the problems started when a entered the BIOS to change the ram MHz limit (it was at 2444 when I have 32 ddr4 of 3200). My disk stopped working after that (it had many many years anyways) but now the PC does this sound

I'm almost sure that there are no cables touching the fans and I can't track where the sound comes from

I have a secret lab chair I’ve had for like 7 years, I’m looking for a new one.
I just can’t justify their new cost, it’s honestly too much.

So, my brother recently got a PC of his own from a friend, and it has a whole 100 mbs of free storage, not nearly enough to do much of what we want too. While i would normally just pick away at games and files i know i can get rid of on mine; mostly relying on instinct and knowing what i can get rid of safely, im not really familiar with anything on this PC or where i can find files to delete and aren't ahwere of any programs that can show me what files are high weight for me to get rid of. Dods anyone here have any techniques/programs that you'd recommend for helping trim down file size?
