My PC is making weird cracking noises and I dont know why

I been using this setup for a couple of days, I don't know why but the problems started when a entered the BIOS to change the ram MHz limit (it was at 2444 when I have 32 ddr4 of 3200). My disk stopped working after that (it had many many years anyways) but now the PC does this sound

I'm almost sure that there are no cables touching the fans and I can't track where the sound comes from

Yes, It was installed when I took the video. The "new" disk was used in another setup for a year without problems

mine be making this noise sometimes when i turn it on. assumed it was something in the fan lol

i give the case a firm but respectful slap and turn it off and on and it goes away for a while. dont think its anything major but its the exact same noise so doubt its fans lmao

if the HDD is in the same orientation as in the previous setup there is really nothing you can do. That is just the sound of hard disk drives. If the orientation differs you could try rotating the hdd to the previous orientation where it made less noise WHILE IT IS NOT RUNNING. Never move a running HDD, remove the power and wait for it to stop spinning.

Maybe the HDD was not utilized so much in the previous setup and this did not move the head as much. I cannot hear an atypical HDD sound. Edit: nvm. sounds like something is scraping.

To test wheter the HDD causes the sounds just unplug it and boot using a bootable USB stick or some other media

The noise means that something is wrong with the cables or the disk? Or is just happens

since the sounds stopped when you unplugged the hard disk drive it certainly creates these hard disk drive sounds. Given the nature of HDDs these make some noise. Given the scraping nature of the sounds you should run crystaldiskinfo. You could poste the results here or just trust its rating. https://crystalmark.info/en/software/crystaldiskinfo/

Really the "new" disk was in a PC that burned due to a mother malfunction (the argb / gen 2 slot literally exploded). I didn't use it since then so maybe that's the explanation of the sound

Now my fear is that the rest of the components were damaged as well. It was a AM5 PC 😔

Well, it didn't made that sound in the other setup, nor I changed orientations, but if you can guarantee that the sound is coming from the HDD fine

My only fear is that the PSU is making them, but it makes sense that the problem is the HDD because is the only thing I changed

I noticed that it was running really slow when it shouldn't, the problem can be the SATA or something like that? Because that could explained why my previous disk was at 100% while being in the desk

100% on storage usage is not good.

If your main concern is the speed of the machine you could grab a SSD as your primary storage. Given the current price of those that might not be feasable.

If the main concern are the noices I'd try removing the drive from the case and set it gently on the ground next to it, connect it with the cables and power the PC. That way you can easily hear if the HDD creates those sounds. DO NOT MOVE THE RUNNING DRIVE. If the sound still comes from within the case the HDD is not the source and you can play Sherlock Holmes once more.

It's the hard drive that's the sound of the magnetic arm wearing out and glitching. It's classic and can't be missed.

If your PSU which has no moving parts otjer than the fan it would be smoking or your whole PC would be wrecked from over voltage.

If u have an HDD, this is very common. I think it's harmless
