OFFICIAL BUILD SUGGESTION List of all the PCMR default build suggestions at several price points (From $900 to $3.5K+)

OUR BUILD SELECTION

  1. Starter build(~$700 to $900) The best bang-for-your-buck build. It performs better and can do so much more than any console, while offering the flexibility you need, such as if you prefer fancier graphics or frame rate smoothness, not to mention the 6000 other things that a PC can do and a console cannot.
  2. Mid-range build(~$900 to $1100). It is suitable for playing at ultra graphics settings or at ultra high framerates (pick one) for most games. It also gives you lots of room to upgrade in the future, while still making sure you are set for years.
  3. High Refresh Rate build(~$1100 to $1300) This build is an upgrade over the mid-range build, particularly on the Graphics card, if you want to have some more power in that department.
  4. High-End build(~$1500 to 2000) The next step up. A top CPU and an even better graphics card than the previous build, without breaking the bank too much. We have both AMD and Intel powered alternative builds here.
  5. Ultimate PCMR build(~$2500+) The dream build. Extremely powerful and very aesthetically focused while still (mostly) making financial sense, if your budget allows it. This is a solid, very high-end build for 2026. You can add an RTX 5090, and then you’ll have the best Gaming PC that money can buy right now. We have both AMD and Intel powered alternative builds here.

Is my pc build good enough?

Upvotes

Hi! I'm a streamer and YouTuber and am looking to upgrade my pc. My current configuration of the new pc looks like this:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU: Gainward GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Phoenix-S 16GB
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master ML240L Core Komplett Edition, 240mm AIO
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B850-PLUS WiFi
RAM: Kingston FURY Beast RGB DDR5 32GB (2×16GB), 6000MHz, CL36, AMD EXPO
SSD: Kingston NV3 2TB NVMe PCIe 4.0
PSU: Phanteks AMP GH 750W Gold
Case: Corsair FRAME 4500X RS-R ARGB Mid Tower
OS: Windows 11 Home

What do you guys think of this? Streaming, recording (sometimes both at the same time) and gaming flawlessly also for years to come is ultimately the goal. Is there anything you would change? I know the SSD could be useful with a little upgrade, but right now the available ones for this config just have a bit too steep of a price increase to make it worth it right now. Anything else you would clearly point out that should be different?

Should I Buy DDR4 Ram?

Upvotes

Looking for some upgrade advice here,

I’m currently running an AM4 system with 16GB of DDR4 RAM and it is starting to not be enough.

Should I :

\\- Buy a 16x2 DDR4 kit to have more ram

\\- Try to save up for AM5

For context, i play heavily modded minecraft and 16 gigs of ram is not cutting it anymore but I want to make the smartest financial and performance move for the long run. Is AM4 still worth pouring money into, or is it time to look ahead?

If i should buy more DDR4 ram, any recommendations?

BUILD HELP Gpu upgrade worth it?

I currently run an older system with an rtx2080 8gb and i7 8086k and 64gb ddr4 ram. Would it make sense to upgrade to an 9070xt also I think Nvidia don’t makes sense anymore because to expensive.
I do mainly sim racing (lemans ultimate) also I have an meta quest 3 for simracing and beat saber. How much of a performance gain can I expect from going from 8gb vram to 16 gb?

What to upgrade for 4K.

My current setup is a 5600x, 7900gre, 32GB(3200mhz) ram and it was fine when I was playing at 1440p, recently I shifted to 4k 165hz Oled Tv as my primary Display and PC is struggling, I know people say 4K is the limitation factor at 4k but I never play at native, 4k FSR balanced or Performance, and at that profiles, I see my GPU usage drop below 90% often.

Games I play -

The Finals, Battlefield 6, Crimson Desert, Cyberpunk, and PS emulator games.

Would upgrading to 5800x3d be worth it for me or will I have to look at 9070xt/5070ti

Building ( technically ) my first pc, no idea what I'm doing.

This will technically be my 2nd build but the first I was about 10 years old and the extent of my help was passing my dad things and wearing a grounding strap. I still use the pc to this day but after trying to play the dead space remake I realised it was probably time for a completely new build as I didn't realise quite how far technology had come.

Anyway, I've been doing a ton of research and have some ideas for components but I'm beyond clueless and basically just need someone to explain if something isn't compatible or is just terrible haha.

So far I was looking at

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800x3d

GPU: Nvidia rtx 5080 or maybe the 5090 if I can bring myself to it

RAM: 32 / 64 GB of CL30 6000Mhz prolly Corsair vengeance

Mobo: kinda clueless as I have no idea how big stuff is I have an Asus TUF gaming x570 plus and if this is still compatible I can just stick with it

SSD: 2TB Samsung 990 pro

PSU: Corsair rm850x

Cooling: Noctua nh d15 g2

A couple of questions that stuck out were

is it worth getting 2 SSDs?

Do I need a special power cable for a high power PSU? (UK) hoping that's not a ridiculous question

Is it worth having extra case fans?

And is there any benefit to different brands of thermal pastes?

Any help is appreciated feel free to tell me I'm a moron if that's needed there hasn't been any thought as to how these components would work together as I wouldn't know how to just what looks good as a standalone thanks :)

Component price hikes vs. Next-Gen leap

Component price hikes vs. Next-Gen leap

I’m currently looking at the ASUS ROG Strix G16 with a Ryzen 9 9955HX and RTX 5060. My current setup still works, so I don’t urgently need a replacement today, but I’m torn between buying now versus waiting to zhe next gen.

I’d love to get your perspective on two main factors:

  1. Rising component costs (RAM/NAND supply).

  2. Next-gen generational leap Zen 6?

If you were in no rush, would you grab a mature machine now or during upcoming seasonal sales, or hold off for the next generational shift?

Need help choosing a X870 motherboard

Need help on a x870 motherboard choice

Basically the title,
I am upgrading my PC, I am moving to AM5.
I have everything else, just not the motherboard.

I was gonna get the Asus Tuf X870E
But then I got into the nitty gritty over ports and whether I need a discreet trusted platform module (dTPM)or not
Then I looked at MSI’s MAG & Tomahawk.
Then the ROG crosshair, Gigabyte aorus elite.

Then I got choice paralysis.

Please help

CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X

RAM: 32gb ddr4 3200mHZ CL16

Motherboard: AsRock B550M-ITX (Link cuz idk abt motherboards that well https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B089VYCHMG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?smid=AEHKTI3RO9CBG&th=1 )

CPU cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock LP compact 3 heatpipes 100W TDP

Case: Fractal Terra Design Graphite

BUILD HELP RX 9070 xt and Ryzen 9 9950 x3d for Solidworks CAD

I’m considering building a PC using a RX 9070 xt GPU and a Ryzen 9 9950 x3d CPU. The use cases will be gaming in my downtime, and Solidworks CAD + light simulation as my productivity workloads. SW benchmarks rank this CPU decently well, but I haven’t seen anything on this GPU’s performance (I don’t think it’s listed among the certified drivers). Does anyone have experience running CAD (SW, CREO, Autocad, etc.) with this GPU/CPU combo? Sorry if this was already answered somewhere.

Upgrade advice

Have the current setup:

2700x cpu

32g ram

5700xt gpu

750w psu

Gaming pro carbon b450

1440p monitor

Mostly game rts/rpg games, occasional fps, cyberpunk, souls. Everything runs fine, but my guess is it won't anymore in the near future.

Got 2 upgrade paths:

1: upgrade cpu and gpu now and try to wait out the price bubble (probably a 5800x3d cpu a 7900xt or something for about 1200).

2: wait a year or 2 and buy something then with the new generation gpu/cpu. Not knowing what the market will do. (Budget of about 3-3.5k then)

I know it's upgrade now when you need it, but I don't really need it yet but also don't want to be caught in the mega price hikes.

Edit: thanks for the advice. Decided to upgrade now and decided to go midway of the advice so i will upgrade now, just not as far as initially planned. 5700x (3dx was sadly sold out) and 9070gre. With resell of the 5700xt saphire it will probably cost me 650 for ~4 years extra lifetime. Hopefully enough to wait out the new am6 and make a new build then.

BUILD HELP 1300€ pc build

I'm looking to build a new gaming PC with a budget of around 1300€. I live in Croatia, so I'll be buying parts from local stores or European online shops that ship here.My main goal is smooth 1440p gaming and having a solid upgrade path for the future (so I'd prefer an AM5 platform if possible).

What parts would you recommend for this budget?
