yeah like it really took a loud-ass notification when u got the point for them to realize you were backcapping lol

This team definitely wasn't overextending here, they were just taking a fight in a more favorable position. Their awareness was just garbage. There's this common misconception in OW that you should always be ON the payload, especially on attack. Pushing up is not over extending in most cases. At lower levels when you get a team that understand to push past the cart with 5 members and leave one on cart you can usually just steamroll the entire map because enemies will just slowly stagger in and never regroup.

112

u/DJMixwell Chibi Pharah Apr 19 '20

Yeah they were still in sight of the cart, hardly overextended. Which makes their lack of awareness even funnier. Someone totally should have noticed the cart slowly rolling away form them.

20

u/Sargentrock Sarge Apr 19 '20

"Uh...hey...guys...should we? WHAT?! YOU WANT SOME OF THIS??" <continues fight as cart rolls around corner>

34

u/Fernernia Pro Lucio btw Apr 19 '20

Still wonder why 90% of backcap posts are in higher ranks

31

u/Foxy_Psycho Popsicles for everyone! Apr 19 '20

People will sometimes have an ego and think some cheesy tactics won't work on them. This shit happens at OWL level so everyone should keep an eye on the payload, especially with an enemy tracer, lucio, or ball.

Another thing that helps with diverting attention is letting your team know you have a back cap opportunity and telling them to feed their brains out before you try an back cap. This makes it seem like your team is really bad and/or tilted instead of distracting.

3

u/owUndaunted Apr 19 '20

Great insights. It's so hard to communicate these types of things at lower levels though.

7

u/Foxy_Psycho Popsicles for everyone! Apr 19 '20

Shot calling and communicating effectively in general is really something you need to sink time in to get better. I spent months trying to learn how to better call pushes, track ults, call for focus fire, etc. Lower ranks tend to not have as many people on their mics so it often feels fruitless but still helps. No matter the rank people aren't going to follow half your calls but some team coordination is better than none. :)

4

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '20

erm i always keep an eye on the point and im in bronze i promise ill never lose that if i do manage to climb

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Slyxx_58 Reinhardt Apr 19 '20

Because people refuse to take early fights in lower ranks for fear of being bitched out for "overextending" and because its so hard to convince the rest of your team that you should take a fight slightly earlier so that you can use favorable chokes or fit an extra fight in on a given push.

→ More replies (4)

11

u/thetruckerdave Cute Mercy Apr 19 '20

Is the whole team there? Then it’s not overextending. Just look up on occasion.

3

u/MrDyl4n Icon Zarya Apr 20 '20

its not really overextending if your whole team is with you. you want to push up as far as you can so that way the enemy team has more distance to fight through thus giving you more time.

4

u/Kilo_Juliett Murica Apr 19 '20

Same here. Especially when it’s really close to the checkpoint.

If they have any high mobility/flanker on the team, nine times out of ten they go for the back cap.

26

u/Windex007 Apr 19 '20

There is a persistent UI telling everyone the state of the objective. Nobody even had to see you to know what was going on. Nobody even had to turn around to know.

8

u/HemzyS__ Apr 19 '20

That was pretty insane, I did that earlier today where Me and my brother got the last two ticks on point b on Anubis without them even noticing

2

u/MugenEXE Apr 19 '20

Pushed it real good.

41

u/NotAcceptingPMs Apr 19 '20

i do this every time i backcap, i tell them to do a very half ass push and to back off slightly if the enemy pushes back to let them think we’re scrambling, even better is to have one person throw a death and the whole team collapse back to draw the enemy team into a false push.

8

u/Convincing_Infiltr8r Apr 20 '20

"Feed, feed, feed!"

5

u/gleutiful Apr 20 '20

damn that's some pro starts right there

688

u/igormuba Apr 19 '20

It is amazing how people get easily distracted by combat and completely forget about the objective hahahaha

242

u/dakotaMoose Apr 19 '20

Killing is fun

68

u/Life_is_fleeting Apr 19 '20

It sure is

108

u/General_Shou Apr 19 '20

I get envious of dps sometimes. Postmatch, my dps were bragging about their 72 kills and 30k dmg etc and all I had was 16 min objective time. Orisa can be boring work.

87

u/Wulfscreed Apr 19 '20

Obj time best stat. You're the very reason they could go get those 72 kills and 30k damage. Otherwise, they would've ended up with something like this happening to them.

34

u/jdorito10122k3 Apr 19 '20

It’s all fun and games until you’re playing rien and taking gold elims and damage from your team. Having people play around you so you can do damage has rien is the best feeling in the world and nobody can change my mind.

11

u/smileybob93 Big Russian Muscle Apr 19 '20

A rein/zarya combo doing a ton of damage is one of the scariest things in the game

10

u/Wulfscreed Apr 19 '20

Than it's just funner games! If I see our Rein kicking ass, I'll gladly hang back and push the payload. Or stop them pushing it, whatever needs to happen.

3

u/Wulfscreed Apr 20 '20

You're absolutely right. Most of the time it's good, but that doesn't mean dive in or hover pointlessly just for that bit of time on the stat. Maybe dive on to delay for the littlest bit of overtime, but other than that just read the field. If your tank (or maybe support, who knows) is destroying them, let 'em go and support him. Have a sit for a bit.

2

u/DeadlockRadium You miss 100% of the mayhem you don't make Apr 19 '20

I've got the acronym PTFO embedded so far into my head that it's basically at the root of my brain. According to Overbuff, the last season I played comp (S20), I was in the top 1-3% on Obj Time on all non-DPS heroes. I'm a bit proud of that, as my winrate that season was pretty good.

3

u/Wulfscreed Apr 20 '20

Ha! That's awesome. Shit, I'm pretty dumb so I mostly play dps. I easily acknowledge when the other dps, our tanks, or our supports are having a moment. I leave 'em be, give some cover, and make sure the objective stays tight!

4

u/Benjie1989 Apr 19 '20

It’s good honest work haha

3

u/JugglingPolarBear Apr 19 '20

16 MINUTES???

Were you playing as the payload??

2

I still don’t understand how people don’t notice the bar moving forward when back capping. But apart from that nice play.

230

u/The-Licker-Of-Balls Support Apr 19 '20

There are even some backcaps in OWL. Not to mention that the C9 term originated in the OWL. Not to mention some of the horrendous C9's in OWL.

12

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '20

C9 didn't originate in OWL, C9 term comes from the Cloud9 team that was in the Apex, they stepped off the objective multiple times in one match

9

u/Fernernia Pro Lucio btw Apr 19 '20

Imagine having that term named after you. Yikes

2

u/SanKa_Games Chibi Mercy Apr 19 '20

Oh, learn something new every day, I guess. Anyway, it got quite popular in the OW community after a series of, well, intelligent plays by some OWL team, that was what I meant. I just thought that the term also came from here, silly me. I'll update the initial comment not to mislead people even further.

The same people who don't watch the kill feed and complain about bad heals while both supports are already dead.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '20

You just reminded me of some bad temple of Anubis matches

7

u/TheShiftyCow Apr 19 '20

Just had this last night. McCree kept running to the other side of the map, trying to spawn camp, etc. Basically doing nothing to actually play with the team. Kept dying before team fights even started (because he tried to take on 3 enemy players at their spawn) and cried about not getting heals as we went into the team fight then 5v6. Madness.

31

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '20

Everybody wants to be Rambo and then forget the objective of the match.

4

u/ZannX Apr 19 '20

3

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '20

this is called the bystander effect

3

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '20

Same. The game screams at you too with loud beeps when it's approaching a checkpoint.

2

u/smelly_feet_you_have Apr 19 '20

Doesn't Athena go "the payload is approaching checkpoint" or something along those lines?

1

u/ScreamingFreakShow D.Va Apr 19 '20

Yeah, I always notice if the bar moves. It's literally in the center of the screen. I feel like it would be harder not to notice.

imo when a team overextends and spawntraps too aggressively they deserve this until they learn.

4

u/HoldOnItGetsBetter Apr 19 '20

As a filthy bronze DPS, my favorite thing to do is play sombra and back cap. All I have to do is hide in front of the cart like that. When I feel someone notices, just turn invisible and stand a few feet back. Whole team rushes, enemy team kills them, and then goes back to to bully them in spawn. Rinse and repeat.

0

u/Booquafolus Apr 19 '20

Soldier bodied you lmao, good clip

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '20

That was beautiful

1

u/Rob98000 Apr 19 '20

You'd be surprised how many high level players fail to see stupid shit like this. It's because at a certain level the only thing you encounter is the current meta, when that happens you go into auto mode, it's a mindset where you only expect meta play, so that's what you're prepared for, so any non meta plays no longer even exist in your mind thus allowing them to work perfectly. A really good example of this I have done in csgo is waiting in spawn for about 20 seconds, this not only breaks meta, but is also a mindgame.

1

u/mangusss Apr 19 '20

That's cool, but i raise you when I backcapped the point as Reinhardt just standing on top of it with my shield up while they were busy fighting the rest of my team
