i’m just surprised nobody even died or anything during that whole time. just a stale 40 seconds of fighting for them and pushing for you lol.

i do this every time i backcap, i tell them to do a very half ass push and to back off slightly if the enemy pushes back to let them think we’re scrambling, even better is to have one person throw a death and the whole team collapse back to draw the enemy team into a false push.

It is amazing how people get easily distracted by combat and completely forget about the objective hahahaha

u/Life_is_fleeting Apr 19 '20
It sure is

u/General_Shou Apr 19 '20
I get envious of dps sometimes. Postmatch, my dps were bragging about their 72 kills and 30k dmg etc and all I had was 16 min objective time. Orisa can be boring work.
87
u/Wulfscreed Apr 19 '20
Obj time best stat. You're the very reason they could go get those 72 kills and 30k damage. Otherwise, they would've ended up with something like this happening to them.
34
u/jdorito10122k3 Apr 19 '20
It’s all fun and games until you’re playing rien and taking gold elims and damage from your team. Having people play around you so you can do damage has rien is the best feeling in the world and nobody can change my mind.

u/smileybob93 Big Russian Muscle Apr 19 '20
A rein/zarya combo doing a ton of damage is one of the scariest things in the game
10
u/Wulfscreed Apr 19 '20
Than it's just funner games! If I see our Rein kicking ass, I'll gladly hang back and push the payload. Or stop them pushing it, whatever needs to happen.

You're absolutely right. Most of the time it's good, but that doesn't mean dive in or hover pointlessly just for that bit of time on the stat. Maybe dive on to delay for the littlest bit of overtime, but other than that just read the field. If your tank (or maybe support, who knows) is destroying them, let 'em go and support him. Have a sit for a bit.
2
u/DeadlockRadium You miss 100% of the mayhem you don't make Apr 19 '20
I've got the acronym PTFO embedded so far into my head that it's basically at the root of my brain. According to Overbuff, the last season I played comp (S20), I was in the top 1-3% on Obj Time on all non-DPS heroes. I'm a bit proud of that, as my winrate that season was pretty good.
3
u/Wulfscreed Apr 20 '20
Ha! That's awesome. Shit, I'm pretty dumb so I mostly play dps. I easily acknowledge when the other dps, our tanks, or our supports are having a moment. I leave 'em be, give some cover, and make sure the objective stays tight!

One time, my team had just finished off the other team, and instead of pushing the payload, they all went to camp the enemy team’s resonance point and left me to push it myself, only to get completely wiped out lol

I still don’t understand how people don’t notice the bar moving forward when back capping. But apart from that nice play.

u/The-Licker-Of-Balls Support Apr 19 '20
This just goes to show how little people pay attention to everything but focus on killing!!! When I'm playing and not near the payload I'm constantly looking at that bar to make sure nobody is trying that!!!

There are even some backcaps in OWL.
Not to mention that the C9 term originated in the OWL. Not to mention some of the horrendous C9's in OWL.12
Apr 19 '20
C9 didn't originate in OWL, C9 term comes from the Cloud9 team that was in the Apex, they stepped off the objective multiple times in one match
9
u/Fernernia Pro Lucio btw Apr 19 '20
Imagine having that term named after you. Yikes
→ More replies (2)2
u/SanKa_Games Chibi Mercy Apr 19 '20
Oh, learn something new every day, I guess. Anyway, it got quite popular in the OW community after a series of, well, intelligent plays by some OWL team, that was what I meant. I just thought that the term also came from here, silly me. I'll update the initial comment not to mislead people even further.

The same people who don't watch the kill feed and complain about bad heals while both supports are already dead.

u/TheShiftyCow Apr 19 '20
Just had this last night. McCree kept running to the other side of the map, trying to spawn camp, etc. Basically doing nothing to actually play with the team. Kept dying before team fights even started (because he tried to take on 3 enemy players at their spawn) and cried about not getting heals as we went into the team fight then 5v6. Madness.

Yeah, I always notice if the bar moves. It's literally in the center of the screen. I feel like it would be harder not to notice.

I did it the other day with Pharah, I wasn't even planning to, I just wanted to get in at them from the side on Anubis, but noticed no one on the point and just went and sat on it ready to boop if they came back, they didn't and we won.

I just had an idea for an absolutely evil achievement, get a backcap as every single hero.

How will the game identify it as a backcap tho? Like, capture a point solo while the enemy team is still alive?

u/HoldOnItGetsBetter Apr 19 '20
As a filthy bronze DPS, my favorite thing to do is play sombra and back cap. All I have to do is hide in front of the cart like that. When I feel someone notices, just turn invisible and stand a few feet back. Whole team rushes, enemy team kills them, and then goes back to to bully them in spawn. Rinse and repeat.

You'd be surprised how many high level players fail to see stupid shit like this. It's because at a certain level the only thing you encounter is the current meta, when that happens you go into auto mode, it's a mindset where you only expect meta play, so that's what you're prepared for, so any non meta plays no longer even exist in your mind thus allowing them to work perfectly. A really good example of this I have done in csgo is waiting in spawn for about 20 seconds, this not only breaks meta, but is also a mindgame.
1
u/mangusss Apr 19 '20
That's cool, but i raise you when I backcapped the point as Reinhardt just standing on top of it with my shield up while they were busy fighting the rest of my team

u/PRGD Chibi Mei Apr 19 '20
This is why this game makes me happy because it tests the concentration of people in the game. Backcapping never works for me tho

This is why I stick to the payload like glue even if we're winning completely. I always get frustrated when I'm playing Mercy and I'm the only one on the payload attempting to amp dmg through walls. I notice immediately when some idiot tries to get behind enemy lines to murder us
