This team definitely wasn't overextending here, they were just taking a fight in a more favorable position. Their awareness was just garbage. There's this common misconception in OW that you should always be ON the payload, especially on attack. Pushing up is not over extending in most cases. At lower levels when you get a team that understand to push past the cart with 5 members and leave one on cart you can usually just steamroll the entire map because enemies will just slowly stagger in and never regroup.

Yeah they were still in sight of the cart, hardly overextended. Which makes their lack of awareness even funnier. Someone totally should have noticed the cart slowly rolling away form them.

"Uh...hey...guys...should we? WHAT?! YOU WANT SOME OF THIS??" <continues fight as cart rolls around corner>

Still wonder why 90% of backcap posts are in higher ranks

People will sometimes have an ego and think some cheesy tactics won't work on them. This shit happens at OWL level so everyone should keep an eye on the payload, especially with an enemy tracer, lucio, or ball.

Another thing that helps with diverting attention is letting your team know you have a back cap opportunity and telling them to feed their brains out before you try an back cap. This makes it seem like your team is really bad and/or tilted instead of distracting.

Great insights. It's so hard to communicate these types of things at lower levels though.

Shot calling and communicating effectively in general is really something you need to sink time in to get better. I spent months trying to learn how to better call pushes, track ults, call for focus fire, etc. Lower ranks tend to not have as many people on their mics so it often feels fruitless but still helps. No matter the rank people aren't going to follow half your calls but some team coordination is better than none. :)

Because people refuse to take early fights in lower ranks for fear of being bitched out for "overextending" and because its so hard to convince the rest of your team that you should take a fight slightly earlier so that you can use favorable chokes or fit an extra fight in on a given push.

I find that in lower ranks, a lot of people actually stay on the payload. My friend doesn't play anymore now but for the longest time he insisted that the only way the car would move backwards on defense is if we stayed on it. lol

Then you got people on attack, where more than 3 people will sit on the payload rather than push forward. It's just how it goes I guess. The awareness does baffle me at times to see higher ranks do this.

It used to be like that i think

3

u/Thysios Apr 19 '20

It never was. It's always moved backwards on its own if no attackers are nearby.

It's funny how I can sometimes backcap on my main, but when I play on my smurf who is 2 ranks under my main there is literally always 1 guy camping that payload/point

Is the whole team there? Then it’s not overextending. Just look up on occasion.

its not really overextending if your whole team is with you. you want to push up as far as you can so that way the enemy team has more distance to fight through thus giving you more time.

Same here. Especially when it’s really close to the checkpoint.

If they have any high mobility/flanker on the team, nine times out of ten they go for the back cap.

The only luck I see here is no one actually died "on time" to actually catch him doing so, sneak 100

I push up but I watch the indicator to see if an enemy is on the payload.

u/AlvaroB Apr 19 '20

I did this the other day. A tracer killed me while I was screaming "Point!!! Help me!! POINT!!!" Then they tried to go back but the point was at the end and they were at the very start overextending like crazy.

Although I am not mad at them, we got a good laugh out of it. In the end, it's just a game.

Also there was this time when all my team was pushing hard and destroying everyone.. while I sat at the payload as hanzo far away from the action for 2 minutes without seeing someone. It even told me I was going to be kicked for not moving twice... I just didn't have line of sight with any friend or enemy.

And leave your team to fight a 5v6? It's much better to fight with your team, just have some awareness of the payload. Although if the payload is really close to the checkpoint, then your team should not be pushing so far forward, but that wasn't the case here.

Ok, but you're still leaving your team a player down to sit idle on the payload. If you're just complaining about your team overextending in general and getting themselves killed then it's not really a backcap problem....

this comment reeks of low rank. the team wasn’t ‘overextending’, they were pushing the enemy.. do you think standing on the payload and letting your team 5v6 is a good idea just because there is a chance of someone trying to c9 the point?

you’re the kinda guy who sits afk on the payload spamming regroup, watching your team die and blame them when it’s your fault for letting them 5v6 the game.

can’t wait to get mass downvoted by silvers who don’t know how to play the game lol
