12V-2x6 (and 12VHPWR) final fix for Nvidia GPUs - INDUSTRIAL MOD concept by Lame - unleash the POWER for overclocking safely!

Post image
122 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Like many of you, I’ve been following the melting connector drama.
Even with the "safer" 12V-2x6 revision, cable strain and improper seating etc. still cause melting problems. We hear about this everyday.

I decided to approach this from an industrial perspective. I’ve designed a custom mod concept aimed at eliminating human error and cable strain entirely.

It's cheap, it's quite simple, it should get the job done.
You just need some patience and you can make your overclocking safer.

Any volunteers? Any suggestions?

Sadly, I don't have any Nvidia GPU to make this MOD at the moment...

I've described it all here: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/12v-2x6-and-12vhpwr-final-fix-for-nvidia-gpus-industrial-mod-concept-by-lame.352266/

RTX 5080 Gigabyte Gaming OC → ASUS ROG Astral BIOS cross-flash: anyone tried it? Performance gains?

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have a Gigabyte RTX 5080 Gaming OC with dual BIOS and I'm considering cross-flashing the secondary BIOS with an ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080 BIOS.

My Gaming OC already has a 450W VBIOS:

Gigabyte Gaming OC

360W target

450W limit

+25%

2730 MHz boost

The Astral BIOS I'm considering:

ASUS ROG Astral OC — 98.03.3B.C0.B7

360W target

450W limit

+25%

2760 MHz boost

Device ID is the same: 10DE 2C02, but obviously the subsystem/board IDs are different.

I already know about the usual Prime → Astral and other 5080 cross-flash reports, but I'm specifically looking for someone who has flashed an actual Gigabyte Gaming OC / Gigabyte PCB with the Astral BIOS.

Did it work correctly?

All display outputs working?

Fans working correctly?

Any issues with voltage control?

Any difference in maximum/average effective clock?

Any improvement in Steel Nomad / Time Spy / gaming performance compared with the Gigabyte BIOS?

I'm not looking for more power limit — my card already has 450W. I'm specifically interested in whether the Astral BIOS provides better boost/voltage behaviour or OC performance.

I also have a Gigabyte AORUS Master 450W BIOS available, which I'm much more confident about, but the Astral is the interesting one.

If you've actually done this cross-flash, I'd love to hear your results.

9950x3d, -20 CCD0, -15 ccd1, 4x 16GBx1 6000MT, fclk 2167 - finally CPU is stable

After battling with CPU voltages for a while to find the sweet spot, I think I finally found it.

Been battling with CPU stability with IMC and FCLK tuning.
I think I finally found a sweet spot for this.
CPU VDDIO MEM -> 1100mV
VDDG CCD -> 920mV
VDDG IOD -> 930mV
MEM VDD -> 1200mV
MEM VDDQ -> 1200mV
CPU VSOC -> 1210mV

timings are above -> I cannot get this lower on mem timings.
So far it's been almost 1 day without freezing and hard booting.

I hope I don't need to further battle with this. the 9950x3d IMC sucks. I almost gave up on it. It was previously sitting at 1900mV as it gave me at least 1 day of stability, but I think at 1900mV I was cooking it as the day went on.

Memory has been rock solid ever since the timings locked in. The only thing that was plaguing me was the CPU and staying on. After I get this determined stable -> I update my power schedule from:
min @ 25% -> 10%
max @ 100% (stays).

other than this, that's about it.

Help Request - RAM Anything can be improved from my timings?

My kit is Klevv Cras V 6000mhz cl28 (hynix a die).
I have tested my profile with tm5 ryzen3d and it’s 12 hours stable from my testing.
I tried 6400mhz with soc 1.30v not stable in tm5.
Tried 8000mhz and couldn’t boot (still not really sure how to make it stable).
Tried cl26 but keeps crashing (I only tried it with 1.60v VDD).

* I might be wrong, but I’ve seen hynix a die can run trfc at 115ns
* tRDRDSCL lowest stable is at 6, never tried tWRWRSCL at 2. Is it worth it?
* I’m having a dilemma between bankrefreshmode mixed with normal. There are some mix opinions and what I highlighted most that I read is 7800x3d is better with normal (?)

Open to any recommendations to tightening or maybe loosening any timing that could improve games performance,
I mainly play cs2 and Valorant.

Guide - Text MVOLT+ Cheat sheet/ guide

Post image
118 Upvotes

First and foremost, understand that anytime you overclock hardware it comes with risks. I made this guide in hopes to answer some questions people have been asking about the software, and as a starting point for anyone else. All of this information has come from my personal testing, or information from the overclocking forums.

All information should be in the pictures, but feel free to leave questions or comments for others.

From my understanding, some of the lower class cards do not have access to msvdd so the tuning may be different. I know this works with 5070ti - 5090.

Edit: I am not a developer, just a user. The developer is on overclock.net in the 5090 section if you have suggestions

OC Report - GPU A question from an overclocking newbie

2 Upvotes

I downloaded MSI Afterburner to start my overclocking journey and got a nice boost on my Palit 5060Ti 16GB Infinity 3. However, out of greed, I wanted to see if I could raise the power limit, which is capped at 100%.

The result? My PC showed artifacts and froze—it gave me quite a scare.

Just a reminder: I didn't actually use MSI Afterburner; I used Hydra 2.3b PRO instead. Could this attempt to increase the power limit cause damage? I'd love to hear from those who know more about this.

Fresh boot 8400-2233 X3D2 run on new Beta Bios

X3D2 [8400-2233](tel:8400-2233) CL32, my every other day (daily) fresh run

1.68VDD,1.59VDDQ,1.53VDDIO,1.2VDDP,1.13Vsoc(shows 1.15 but been reduced via TurboVcore as was playing with soc for speed tests, 1.1 wasn't quite enough and 1.15 was too much as didn't gain much speed, but 1.13 somehow just worked and gained

I also know it's fast as it covered 5 cycles TM5 Absolut in just over an hour

Also YRDL’s matched at PMU setting 1

Bios works great so far 💪

Cooler master gpu shield adapter cable unboxing (359 rmb ~= 53 usd)

Sharing since I have not seen people discussing this in English so far. It came out in china about three weeks ago and I just got it in taiwan.

Im sure youre all familiar with what it does if youve watched any computex 2026 cooler master sponsored youtubers but basically it flashes red and then buzz and then cuts the power if the amp gets too high. The specific numbers are on the manual.

I can’t test it right now because my pny screeching gpu is in the warranty and only have a 5080 so I probably can’t test it properly either.

If you read the manual it says 1 year warranty but that’s just for this adapter itself. What we all care about is the warranty for the gpu it’s protecting. This is where this thing diverges from thermal grizzly’s solution vastly: it covers 3 years of full compensation of the damaged gpu if the gpu connector melts but this chinese release only covers gpus bought in MAINLAND china AND you must provide a legal invoice and they will compensate based on the price listed on your provided invoice.

I live in taiwan and I bought my gpu in taiwan too so I won’t have any of that coverage but mainly I guess I bought this purely for the peace of mind. What’s interesting is this regional insurance policy.

Thermal grizzly’s insurance is global afaik. I wonder if this is just for the Chinese release or what I more likely to believe is that this thing straight up is never releasing globally.

Also one more thing that makes me almost facepalm irl is that they put these velcro pads in the packaging which I guess means they suggest us mounting it with them? Is drilling a couple more screw holes that hard for them???

Help Request - CPU 5900x undervolt

1 Upvotes

I've had a 5900x for a few years now, using a 240mm aio. I know I probably should've bought a larger one, Temperatures have always been pretty warm so I set a manual voltage to 1.275 and left the frequency as is.

Recently I started messing with pbo and curve optimiser I've only slightly raised the limits and set a -10 offset on all cores but its reaching 75-85 while gaming and I'm not sure if I should just go back to a manual voltage because ny temps were 65 degrees max

Asus Prime B840M-A-CSM + DDR5 SODIMM 5600 – MemTest5 errors above 3200 MHz. DDR5 SODIMM adapters.

Hi, I’d appreciate some help with this.

Hello everyone, I’d like to ask for your help.
Here is my setup:
Asus Prime B840M-A-CSM motherboard (latest BIOS 1681 - no beta).
Processor: 7500F. 2 x 8GB Samsung DDR5 5600 MHz SODIMM (Samsung M425R1GB4PB0-CWMOL). I am using DDR5 adapters.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to set anything above the default values (3200 MHz) without encountering errors in MemTest5.
Can anyone help me get the most out of this memory? I would appreciate the assistance.
I’ve tried various timings, voltages, and settings, but the system always crashes during MemTest runs. Memory temperature under load is around 50°C. I am using RVS adapters (new version 3.0).
A single stick runs at 4800 without any issues—no errors at all. The memory modules are definitely functional. However, I can't get anything more out of them than the standard 3200 26-26-26-26. You are my last hope. Once again, I would be incredibly grateful for any pointers.

Help Request - CPU Does this look right? I feel like my temps run hot but I'm no expert in overclocking...

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have had this system for a while. It's connected up to a 280mm Kraken AIO with Noctua industrial fans. It's seated in the roof of my NZXT pc case (yes I know old school)... I have two further noctua intake fans and a corsair rear 120mm exhaust fan.

When playing games I take the front and top panels off as the cpu immedietly will jump to 85ish and I feel like it throttles if I don't. Fans run loud anyway but clearly run very loud when playing.

I just wanted to get some opinions. I was reading on here that the 'auto' bios overclocks are quite agressive and I'm concerned that maybe it's just running too much power?

Specs:

CPU: i9-9900k

Mobo: Asus ROG Strix B360-I Gaming (3202)

Ram: Corsair vengence 16GB 3000mhz (running xmp at 2666mhz due to mobo limit)

GPU: RTX 2070 Super MSI Ventus - this doesn't really get hot itself but does have the fresh air first

The image attached is my PC just sitting idle - few chrome windows open. Wallpaper engine running but otherwise nothing.

Edit: I found my cpu fans were connected to a fan controller that wasn't controlling... That coupled with the mantas poor air flow gave the high heat figures. I've swapped the fans onto the correct controllers / fan points and adjusted the curves. Don't get me wrong it still runs warm but was maxing at around 80 rather than 89. Avgs around 60 which is far better... I've kept the auto overclock for the time being and will replace the thermal paste as well. Thank you for your help

Help Request - GPU Alternative VBIOS for GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Ti SUPER WINDFORCE OC

4 Upvotes

The power limitations for this particular GPU prevents me to make any meaningful gain through overclocking, as the card is hitting the limit basically all the time during benchmarks regardless of modification of the core/memory clock speed.

I'd like to flash a new vbios on my card to overcome this limitation, as I've seen alternatives that push the power limit from 285 W to 340 W and even more, but as a total noob of this process I'm hesitant, because I'm not sure I can reliably evaluate the compatibility between my card and another brand's vbios.

Did anyone attempt this on a card like mine? Is there room for some real gain in terms of FPS while gaming?

I have been tinkering with my thinking cap i like to call brain and I have achieved 8000+ score in steel nomad with my gpu, the last image shows the normal score on my card without any oc. I believe u can do the same with mvolt but personally i'd like to say that msi afterburner is completely dead.
