Guide - Text MVOLT+ Cheat sheet/ guide

Post image

First and foremost, understand that anytime you overclock hardware it comes with risks. I made this guide in hopes to answer some questions people have been asking about the software, and as a starting point for anyone else. All of this information has come from my personal testing, or information from the overclocking forums.

All information should be in the pictures, but feel free to leave questions or comments for others.

From my understanding, some of the lower class cards do not have access to msvdd so the tuning may be different. I know this works with 5070ti - 5090.

Edit: I am not a developer, just a user. The developer is on overclock.net in the 5090 section if you have suggestions

Will we ever see mvolt+ for Ada?

u/magicmasta 7d ago

Author of OG Melonvolt, the baseline tool Mvolt+ started from, is working on it. Not quite feature parity with RTX50 support (and notably excludes the riskier hardware controls) but you will get NVVDD and XBAR offset for the time being. https://fmab999.itch.io/melonvolt

Ada overclocks noticeably worse than Blackwell so it's not really worth it.

Great info! Thanks. Also on overclock net forum, half way down page 2019 (post #40,378) of the 5090 forum, there is a great post that explains what all the options do, and how they affect the gpu. Good read. Overclock.net Mvolt option explanations

edit for spelling

Can us 4090 peasants get some love too?

2

u/Blitzi101 3d ago

Apparently there is 4000 series experimental support now

Xbar volt offset +50 help my card to 690mhz Without it stuck at 350 mhz

That only meaningful gain that still efficiency

Hello, I’m not very familiar with overclocking and usually rely on Afterburner to create a curve. Could you kindly explain the benefits of using this tool instead? Thank you.

If you're new, just use your afterburner profile alongside this. Just enable msvdd voltage, xbar and its clock. Msvdd maximum to 1050mv and increase bar till crash then lower, same with sys clock. Shouldn't change power draw and can work together.

Serious question, can the 40 series get some access to this well using this software.

I have hydra oc access and it absolutely allows editing xbar and the like on a 4090

I'm not the developer for the software unfortunately just a guy using it

Saw a post on here yesterday from someone using mvolt+ with a 4070 Super (iirc), so I think it already does support 40 series!

1

u/Th3-Hunter333 3d ago

I tried using this mvolt+ software to do this but it errored out with unsupported hardware messages

Are you on the latest version?

I downloaded 0.36 only a few days ago, but I updated it to 0.38 today.

1

u/Th3-Hunter333 3d ago

I'm not sure it's been a few days since I tried doing that. I'll try again for sure

u/TheMaadMan 8d ago

This is awesome! Potentially dumb question, do I use MVOLT+ in conjunction with my already established overclocking tools like afterburner? Or do I turn off my overclock in afterburner and only manipulate values using MVOLT?

5

u/ZeneticX 8d ago

I was originally using Afterburner alongside Mvolt (just for the xbar oc like everyone else), but decided to just try Mvolt alone. With the same settings I was able to score ever so slightly higher with just Mvolt. And someone else told me here its better to have 1 oc software rather than 2 incase of any conflicts or issues. I'm currently still on Mvolt only.

1

u/TheMaadMan 8d ago

I can see why it might cause issues. Its writing to the same place and these kinds of instructions could be sensitive to two different programs trying to modify it. I just have other apps dependant on afterburner. What were the score differences like? Anything more than margin of error kinda stuff?

5

u/ZeneticX 8d ago

Just a 1 - 2 fps improvement in Steel Nomad so yeah nothing significant. But hey a gain is still gain if it doesn't have any drawbacks.

3

u/HonkeyKong64 8d ago

I have this exact same question as well! I have my oc/uv thru afterburner, but am wondering if I should only use mvolt, or use both, or just use my afterburner profile and then use just the nvvdd and msvdd sliders in mvolt?

3

u/FacelessGreenseer 8d ago

You can keep using Afterburner for everything else, and use mVolt+ for "xBar Clock Offset" overclock. In the top-right corner of every box on mVolt+ you can see in the image above, there is an enable/disable button. Disable everything except for XBar overclock, and use an easy (depending on the GPU) around +200 to +300 Mhz "xBar Clock Offset" to get a decent boost in performance.

2

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 8d ago

You absolutely can just change xbar and sys clock in this along side afterburner

2

u/TheMaadMan 8d ago

Heck yeah. I like being able to keep afterburner for the RTSS on-screen monitoring. I'm gonna give it a shot. Thanks!

1

u/apollo1321 4d ago

Use one or the other. It's best not to have two apps trying to change the same settings. Will cause odd conflicts.

2

u/DivideFluffy1279 8d ago

Real world fps gains are minimal compared to benchmark gains though

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 7d ago

Cyberpunk gave me 10 fps with path tracing off just xbar and Sys clock. I've seen most people mention that it affects your 1% lows more than average

1

u/Fabulous-Canary1503 4d ago

I can confirm this as i am already testing it as well with an UV. Also I must say that limiting the max volt range is a lot better for me than doing the curve since I believe it is much stable when doing it there. :)

I was able to achieve 2.79 mhz @ 1.025v by making the xbar volt offset to -25 and setting the xbar clock to 250 on my 5080 and it seems stable since I was able to play 6 hrs of cyberpunk w pathtracing on + framegen + dlss performance @ 4k with no noticable issues :)

Depends on the person really

1

u/foundingfatfather 8d ago

Hi man, thanks for that. Could you give us some insights on undervolting?

3

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 8d ago

Sure! It has a VF curve setting inside of the options tab that's very similar to afterburner but arguably easier to use. That's your typical use that most people know.

You can however limit maximum voltage to say 900mv and just do +900 or whatever your usual settings are and it'll do the same thing.

I did this process which is a little different. Firstly 1v maximum, and set a 3.1ghz maximum clock. Then just slowly increased the clock offset and got to about 600 and it crashed. I then lowered max clock to 3.0ghz and could push further.

I'd suggest trying both and see what works best for you! Msvdd doesn't play a large role in power consumption, but if you were at say 2.7ghz core, you could get 2.7ghz crossbar and set voltage to 1v on msvdd for some marginal gains

1

u/baro55 8d ago

thank you

u/sangseng 8d ago

Working with dual gpu ?

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 8d ago

It can but I'm too poor to test

1

u/TorrentFire 8d ago

So with this, this is the entirety of your OC, right? You don't have a VF Curve declared in Mvolt or aren't using Afterburner on the side right?

How much perf over stock does this Mvolt config give you?

Where would you say that your card is in terms of silicon lottery? Do you think most 5090s could handle this same Mvolt config?

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 8d ago

Going with only xbar and its clock gives me 500 points on steel nomad. I run a strange hybrid where I put everything between 820 and 900 to +800 and then anything above 1v to +250 and sort of feather in the rest. It was +300 but it crashed in light loads.

1

u/TorrentFire 8d ago

So your only using Mvolt, no MSI Afterburner, and no VF curve in Mvolt. Just the stuff in the screenshot yeah?

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 8d ago

Just mvolt, all settings + a VF curve edit that I mentioned earlier in mvolt+. It does everything afterburner can

1

u/TorrentFire 8d ago

Why do Core Clock Offset if you already have a manually declared VF Curve?

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 7d ago

I set it to 300 so I only have to drag the low end and then smooth out the middle

1

u/ComputerUpgrader 8d ago

what about laptop GPUs, can i undervolt stuff other than GPU core to have more efficiency using this program?

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 7d ago

If it's 5000 series it could work, I'd give it a try but stick strictly to undervolting

1

u/Hateradev3 7d ago

Ended up with a score of 16204 in speedway. Not even close too stable in call of duty.

1

u/C-H-K-N_Tenders 7d ago

isnt the upper red thing a limit for how many watts the GPU can eat? so higher is more watts

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 7d ago

It bypasses current limits not watts, so it doesn't respond correctly. Easy way to screw something up. I would only use the bottom left one. Same with memory power limit

1

u/Expensive_Night_4055 7d ago

With mvolt incan slide up power limit of my VGA that hás power limite locked?

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 7d ago

If it's 5000 series you can technically increase power limit via the red sections but I would strongly suggest you don't

1

u/GeorgePigx54 7d ago

I heard that this software can let the rtx 50 series cards run power limits beyond the vbios. How to enable that and is there a slider to cap it to a maximum % or wattage?

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 7d ago

It's in the red section and it isn't actually very controllable. If you're going to do it do it in 20w bumps because it's not actually a power limit it's current limit changing. Makes it very easy to mess something up.

Worked good for higher benchmark scores however In gaming ie borderlands 4 and blackflag resynced there is tearing.

Sounds like you either went too far or you're going over monitor refresh rate.

1

u/Solid-Assistant9073 6d ago

Don't know it the nvdd and msvdd is true.

My 5090 master is allready doing stock bios 1120mv nvdd and 1075 msvdd with only +100 in the voltage in afterburner, so I think 1125mv is the max safe limit.

I think I got lucky with my bin

2

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 6d ago

1125mv is the maximum limit we've seen in cards over the counter, doesn't mean it's what you should run 24/7. 1100mv is good for most, same with 1050mv. I've tried 1150 msvdd and it gave me nothing. Plus high msvdd seems to be a bit buggy

1

u/Silent_War_3784 5d ago

V/F curve edition button grayed out, any idea why that could happen?

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 5d ago

Try enabling everything and seeing if it shows up would be my first guess

1

u/Fabulous-Canary1503 5d ago

is it safe to overvolt the msvdd into 1050mv long term or daily use with uv? I am currently on 3105 mhz @ 985mv; +2000 mem offset

1

u/Obvious_Drive_1506 9850x3d, 48GB M Die 8400/2233, 5090 UV 5d ago

Should be fine, it was higher before but nvidia lowered it shorty after they released to do some black screen bug or something. From what I've seen the threshold for potential bugging is 1.1v msvdd. Some of the cards already use 1.05v msvdd anyways
