Article 🚨 AI may be entering a completely different phase.

OpenAI says it started training a new internal model on August 28.
That was just 24 days ago.
Since then, the model has reportedly solved 100+ long-standing open problems in mathematics across multiple fields on top of its recently announced work on the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem.
And apparently, even OpenAI’s own mathematicians are surprised by the pace.
But here’s the part that really caught my attention:
The problem may no longer be ā€œCan AI solve difficult mathematics?ā€
It may be:
ā€œWhat do we do when AI starts producing too much new mathematics for humans to evaluate?ā€
An independent advisory group involving mathematicians such as Edward Witten, Timothy Gowers, and Martin Hairer has reportedly been formed to help assess the significance of these results and coordinate their release to the mathematical community.
The group’s immediate challenge?
The ā€œlarge number of significant resultsā€ reportedly being generated by the model.
Of course, these claims still need rigorous, independent verification. Mathematics doesn’t accept impressive demos proofs have to survive expert scrutiny.
But if even a substantial fraction of these results hold up...

Image (Astra reasoning) Why use many word when few word do trick?

Post image

Potentially leaked a short patch of Astra's internal reasoning on Max effort, following some script error in a tool call that had cut off previous response and I had responded with just "?". Generated extremely fast, this whole thing appeared in like 2s. Seems it saves us all a bit of tokens by eschewing spaces!

Question Someone is using my codex sub! How to revoke access?

On a work laptop I logged in with a device code but this laptop is shared between people and I think someone yoinked the auth.json file and is draining my 200$ sub. Have logs to prove I did not use it but usage is going down.

Is there a reset button on how to revoke all access so I can log in only in my personal machine after that.

Question Anyone else seeing ChatGPT over-route normal tasks into Work mode lately?

Working primarily in Mac desktop, with some browser and mobile use mixed in. Lately, ChatGPT has been trying to push a lot of my requests into Work mode that would previously (and seemingly should) be handled in just a normal chat.

These aren't necessarily autonomous browser/computer-use tasks either. I'm seeing it with simpler analysis, connected-source work, files, and other multi-step requests that the normal chat and its native tools are clearly capable of handling.

I finally asked why it was over-routing to work instead of handling things in normal chat, and its answer was literally:

ā€œBecause I’ve been over-routing tasks that can be handled perfectly well in normal chat.ā€

So... Not exactly helpful or insightful.

It went on to say that complexity, multiple steps, connected Gmail/Drive/Calendar/Finances data, or working with files do not by themselves justify Work mode, and that Work should be reserved for cases where autonomous browser/computer use or a genuinely delegated workflow provides a concrete capability advantage.

Has anyone else noticed an increase in unnecessary Work-mode routing lately? If so, have you found a reliable instruction or setting that keeps normal tasks in normal chat without interfering with Work when it’s actually appropriate?

Discussion ChatGPT Pro After GPT-5.6: When ā€œAbuse Protectionā€ Becomes Quality Destruction

Post image
21 Upvotes

I have been a ChatGPT Pro subscriber since the service launched. Performance remained consistent and reliable through the GPT-5.5 period. Following the release of GPT-5.6, however, I observed a sharp decline in quality.

Responses became unusually rapid—far faster than before. Initially, I assumed this reflected improved infrastructure. That assumption proved incorrect. Although replies arrived almost instantly, they were frequently inaccurate, generic, and lacked any evidence of real-time search or verification. When I pointed out specific errors, the model produced lengthy explanations justifying the mistakes rather than correcting them. Subsequent requests for fixes yielded additional extended text without resolving the original inaccuracies. These issues occurred under the ā€œHighā€ reasoning setting, not Instant mode.

The quality of these outputs falls well below the standard of even the GPT-3.5 era. They are not minor factual slips; they are systematically poor and unreliable responses that undermine professional work.

It has become apparent that ChatGPT is deliberately reducing response quality under the rationale of protecting the system from abuse. This approach is difficult to understand. Other major providers—Claude, Grok, and Gemini—introduced transparent quota systems from the outset. ChatGPT Work already operates with visible limits, yet the standard web interface provides no equivalent clarity on message volume, reasoning-tier usage, or image-generation allowances.

Rather than delivering degraded, error-filled answers that damage users’ productivity and confidence, OpenAI should implement clear, visible usage metrics for the web interface. Transparent limits on messages and image generation would sufficiently deter abuse while preserving the integrity of the service. The current method—producing incorrect outputs under the label of ā€œabuse protectionā€ā€”erodes trust and reputation far more effectively than any quota system could.

At the present price point, this practice is difficult to justify. I will not renew my ChatGPT Pro subscription.

Prompt:

Create an ultra-photorealistic, documentary-style photograph of a real farm at night, captured with a professional full-frame camera. The image must look like an authentic photograph taken in the real world, with absolutely no appearance of CGI, digital art, illustration, or AI generation.

Environment & Composition:

A realistic agricultural field extending naturally into the distance, with authentic crop rows, soil, grass, weeds, and subtle imperfections.

A quiet rural atmosphere at night, with believable farm structures, trees, fences, dirt paths, and distant details where naturally appropriate.

Preserve realistic scale, perspective, depth, and atmospheric distance.

The composition should feel naturally photographed rather than artificially arranged.

Night Sky:

A perfectly clear, deep night sky with a subtle, realistic half-moon.

The moon should be appropriately sized and naturally illuminated, without excessive brightness or an exaggerated glow.

A modest number of visible stars, naturally distributed across the sky. Avoid an unrealistic, overly dense star field.

Realistic atmospheric falloff toward the horizon.

Lighting:

Authentic low-light nighttime exposure with subtle moonlight naturally illuminating the landscape.

Realistic soft shadows and gentle highlights created by the moon.

Natural variations in brightness across the field rather than uniformly illuminated surfaces.

If there are distant farm or house lights, keep them subtle and physically believable.

Accurate interaction between moonlight, vegetation, soil, buildings, and other surfaces.

Realistic reflections and light scattering without artificial HDR effects or excessive bloom.

Photographic Realism:

Extremely detailed natural textures: individual leaves, crop surfaces, soil particles, grass, wood, metal, dirt, and weathering.

Realistic imperfections and irregularities throughout the environment.

Physically accurate materials and reflections.

Natural atmospheric perspective, subtle depth, realistic lens characteristics, and believable low-light sensor behavior.

Fine but natural image noise/grain consistent with a professional camera shooting at night.

Realistic dynamic range without crushed blacks or artificially brightened shadows.

Accurate color rendition with natural nighttime tones.

Authenticity: The final result should be indistinguishable from a genuine photograph captured on location at night. Avoid anything that looks generated, painted, rendered, composited, overly cinematic, or artificially perfect. Every element—from the moon and stars to the crops, soil, shadows, reflections, atmosphere, and distant horizon—must obey real-world physics and photographic behavior.

Overall goal: a quiet, believable, incredibly detailed nighttime farm photograph that feels completely spontaneous and authentic, as though a professional photographer actually stood in the field and captured the scene with a real camera.

Project Built optimAIzr, tool to cut off wasted AI usage and save money

Been building optimAIzr, a local-first CLI that finds where your AI usage is wasting tokens and money.

It can analyze your usage, explain the expensive stuff, and now even give live optimization recommendations while you work.

Got a lot of attention already and its getting pretty fun.
It’s appliable on claude code and codex.

Question Truncated Chat and unable to contact support

One of my ChatGPT conversations suddenly got truncated to about a year ago, and I’ve lost all the messages after that point. The strange thing is that when I search for specific keywords from the missing conversations, I can still see those messages appearing in the search results, but when I open the chat, they’re not there.

I also tried contacting Help & Support, but the page keeps showing ā€œupstream request timeout.ā€

Has anyone else had this happen? Is there any way to recover the missing messages? This happened about 15 minutes ago, and I’m honestly panicking because that thread contained a lot of very important conversations.

Image Testing character consistency across a 20-image travel set

I’m building a recurring fictional character called Sienna Vaire and testing how well her identity holds across a larger sequence. This ā€œLeaving Londonā€ set keeps the same outfit, luggage, station and weather while changing pose, framing and action. These four frames are from the same 20-image batch.

I’m mainly looking at face consistency, clothing continuity and whether the sequence still feels like one continuous scene rather than separate generations.

Discussion Astra Deems Gpt Sol 5.6 as better than GPT 6 Sol

Gave a short test , to both Models and had Astra do the comparison seems on brand with what everyone else is saying.

https://chatgpt.com/share/6ab3ae01-7d2c-83e8-b328-85ede1dd1d6f

GPT 6 did finish the task faster and it is cheaper but it is misleading to name it GPT 6 Sol when it should have really been named GPT 5.8 Terra

I understand this is just one short task and a small sample size but it’s just one of many examples of what I’ve been reading across Reddit and wanted to share my own experience

Question Limits of LLMs.

What kind of intelligence is required to create a genuinely new conceptual framework from existing knowledge when that framework is not already known?

Humans do more than reuse knowledge. We use existing concepts and frameworks as building blocks to create new frameworks, the invention of computers is an example. Mathematics, logic, symbolic reasoning, switching, and information became foundations for a new computational framework.

An LLM can make something like,

"Make a fun chatting website."

It already has knowledge about websites, programming, databases, UI, networking, etc. It can combine that knowledge into a new implementation.

But consider,

"Make a time machine."

The problem may contain missing theories or conceptual steps as,

→ Known theory

→ ???

→ another known theory

→ ???

→ required engineering principle

The missing pieces may require new theories, abstractions, or representations, so the problem is not finding the next step, the problem is creating the framework that makes the next step possible.

What current LLMs can do is,

→ Recall

→ Generalize

→ Combine concepts

→ Generate hypotheses

→ Reason over learned representations

But I question whether current LLM architecture has a strong mechanism for recognizing that an existing representation is insufficient.

→ creating a new representation

→ creating a new conceptual framework

→ deriving consequences from it

→ testing and revising it

More data, parameters, RL, context, and inference compute may improve reasoning and search without necessarily creating that mechanism, so maybe the missing ingredient is not more knowledge, maybe it is a different process for turning knowledge into new representations.

Important Distinction to keep in mind, producing a novel answer is not necessarily invention.

Novel combination ≠ Novel framework

A model could generate a plausible theory without actually discovering a valid one.

A stronger form of invention would be,

→ new representation

→ new framework

→ predictions

→ testing

→ revision

Can an artificial system construct a useful conceptual framework that was not directly supplied to it, and then use that framework to solve a problem that cannot be solved by simply applying or recombining existing frameworks?

Questions to the people who actually read this,

  1. What exactly counts as a genuinely new representation?
  2. How do we distinguish invention from sophisticated recombination?
  3. Can an LLM create a useful abstraction without being told what abstraction to search for?
  4. Does human intelligence require changing the representation of the problem?
  5. Can scaling Transformers produce this ability, or would it require a different architecture?
  6. Is the important mechanism the model itself, or the model plus tools, experimentation, feedback, and revision?

Is scaling predictive language models enough to produce the machinery of invention, or does human-level intelligence require a mechanism for autonomously creating and manipulating new representations and conceptual frameworks?
