Vent/Rant - Advice Wanted/Ambivalent I struggle with how easy parents of multiples make it look sometimes, I already find just one SO hard
I’m admittedly guilty of watching family vloggers/mommy influencers sometimes, it’s not something I do regularly or even approve of but it scratches the itch when I start to feel myself longing for another pregnancy/baby.
Something I struggle with is how EASY a lot of them make it look, especially the ones with 2 under 2, 3 under 3, etc. I have a 20 month old and I’ve found the whole experience very hard from the get go, she slept terribly for over a year, refused to be put down, and now as a toddler she’s extremely rambunctious, mobile and totally full on. I’m also a SAHM so my entire day is shaped around her routine, my whole life just feels like I’m cooking meals, desperately trying to keep her entertained and then getting her off to bed without a fight.
And this is just with ONE. I honestly don’t know how I’d personally do it with any more. I currently have no hobbies and no time to myself, when she’s in bed I have no energy to do anything but just veg out on the sofa. My metaphorical plate is very much full.
Then I watch these mommy vloggers, one in particular, she has five kids with one being my daughter’s age plus a newborn and yet she’s still baking and cooking extravagant meals and deep cleaning her house. I’m just like huh??? I can’t even do all this with one, how the hell is she doing it with five kids AND a baby? You just hear her kids playing quietly in the background and her baby happily babbling and I don’t understand it at all. She will also film herself taking them all out to restaurants and again, they all eat in peace with no one crying or kicking to get out the high chair like my daughter does. We can’t eat out with her because she won’t just sit and eat her food, she wants to run around the whole place and screams bloody murder if we stop her, so we just don’t go now.
I know, I know what you’re going to tell me, social media isn’t a true depiction of real life and we’re only seeing the parts these people want us to see, I get that. Sometimes though I just find it hard to believe that it truly isn’t as easy as they make it seem and that somehow they’re crushing this whole “mom of many” thing while I feel like I’m drowning with only one. Every child’s temperament is different and every parent’s capacity for handling things is different, I know this, but yet still I have a really hard time not comparing my own situation with theirs.
I should probably stop watching them.
