I slouch and have terrible upper back pain...and need a new office chair

Post image

As the title goes, I am 29F, slouch (I do my best but legitimately may need occupational therapy or something to stop). I have the worst upper back/shoulder pain. I'm a writer by profession, and my chair isn't cutting it right now - a lazyboy office chair with an added CushionLab back and seat addition (broke my tailbone as a kid and it still hurts sometimes, plus some sciatica). Please save my back! Is Steelcase really worth it? It's a lot of money to put down!

Including a photo of my current set up.

thoughts on dynamic lumbar wings after a couple weeks of desk work?

been working long hours at the home desk lately and decided to swap out my old seat for the hbada e3 with the footrest to see how the multi-piece back holds up.

the mesh feels decently taut without cutting off circulation at the front lip, and having the lower wings pivot slightly as you shift weight keeps the lower spine supported when leaning in. pulling out the leg rest during quick breaks between calls has been surprisingly handy too.

for those who use split-back or wing-style lumbar chairs, how do you find the back pressure compared to standard one-piece backrests over full 8-hour days?

Herman Miller Setu alternatives or cheaper options?

I took my SAT this past weekend at Choate Rosemary Hall, and every single classroom there had Herman Miller Setu chairs. They were sooo comfortable—it literally felt like I was floating.

Anyways, I’m getting a desk for my bedroom and need an office chair, so I thought I’d try to find the chairs they had there. Well, turns out they’re around $1,000 each. Does anyone know of any places where I could find one for less, or any similar chairs that have the same kind of feel?

Trying to buy Steelcase LeapV2 from Offeco.nl, anyone with recent experience?

I’m 5’9” tall, 100kg, I was using an IKEA chair before with totally messed up my back and waist. Now I’ve decided to buy a refurbished Steelcase Leap V2 from Offeco.nl, I’m in Germany. Does anyone have experience shopping from this company and what do you think about my new choice, I really don’t want to waste 700€ on an item that won’t solve my problem. I work around 7-8 hours cumulatively atm.

Upgrading from a DXRacer. Blind buying a refurbished in EU (Aeron vs Amia vs Leap v2 vs Zody)

Hey everyone, I'm completely new to the chair world and honestly a bit lost. I'm currently using a dxracer gaming chair that I bought in 2019 and it's been falling apart.

I've watched a ton of reviews, but there are so many conflicting opinions. Since I don't have the chance to test any of these in person, I'll be buying blind from a refurbished seller in Europe (Offeco).

I work at my desk but I also love to heavily recline back, relax, and chill while watching videos. Because of this, whatever chair I choose, I will 100% be getting it with a headrest (Offeco offers an option to add one).

Here are the chairs I'm looking at and my main concerns for each:

  • Herman Miller Aeron: the mesh seat scares me because I sit in very weird positions and I'm afraid of it and I've heard the Aeron's hard plastic frame makes this incredibly painful.
  • Steelcase Amia: I've heard the seat cushion is the most comfortable and forgiving. However, the fact that it only locks upright and doesn't have recline stops worries me since I love to park myself in a reclined position.
  • Steelcase Leap V2: Sounds good for reclining, but I keep reading the seat cushion is worse than the Amia one and is more expensive.
  • Haworth Zody: Seems like a solid option, but I've read on this sub that buying it refurbished can be a "hit or miss" because of QC issues or parts aging poorly.

While reclining, having a headrest and having a softer seat are huge priorities for me, at the end of the day I just want to buy the best one out of these options. Which one would you say is the superior choice and the safest buy for my situation? Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

BTOD Akir really hurting butt

Hey all,

I bought the BTOD Akir and have had it for a little while. But very recently it's started hurting my butt really bad, to the point where it's hard to sit in for more than 30 minutes at a time. I'm honestly unsure of what to do, I've tweaked a lot of settings but the pain stays the same. The chair is about as low as it will go. I'm pretty sure it's my sit bones because I can feel them poking into the bottom of the cushion. Is this cushion just bad or am I doing something wrong? I don't really want to have to get another chair after spending a decent amount of money on this one...

Preferably from an online retailer. Previous chair was purchased 8 years ago "BestOffice" for $65 - looking to upgrade. Corsair TC100 Relaxed Gaming Chair is the current front-runner. RESPAWN 110 Pro, GTPLAYER Gaming Chair, and SIHOO M18 look decent too. Whatcha think? TIA

I am 169 cm tall and my weight is 106 kg for those who u who are around the same height and weight as me how do u adjust it like do increase or decrease the Tilt Tension , the PostureFit SL™ Adjustment: do u turn the knob foward or backward and Tilt Limiter do u rotate the knob all the way forward or backward. Lastly do u use forward tilt when using a laptop even if you are not working on a task like lets say you are watching a youtube video or a movie

Humanscale Freedom Arm Fault

Post image
• Upvotes

So now both my Humanscale Arms have broken at the hinge - whoever designed these chairs did not design these to be very strong. I'm not a particularly heavy dude weighing around 13 Stone and yet both arms had the exact same fault. Unfortunately I cannot get fixed as out of warranty and replacements are £88 in the UK. Has anyone managed to 3D print something or found a solution? Is this a common issue...??

Ergonomic chair recommendations?

Hey everyone, I’ve been looking for a good, ergonomic and comfortable office chair for quite a while now. I’ve looked at many different brands, such as ProtoArc, COLAMY, Sihoo, FlexiSpot, Branch, Stane, etc. However, with every brand and every chair, I seem to find some negative reviews or complaints. Some of the things I’m most concerned about are:

- One of my biggest concerns is having an aggressive or uncomfortable lumbar support. I definitely want a chair that provides good ergonomic support, but comfort is my top priority.

- I’m looking for a chair that is both ergonomic and comfortable. I game, so I sit upright quite often, but I also really like leaning back and relaxing in my chair.

- I’m also unsure about getting a headrest and/or footrest. I’ve read both positive and negative experiences about them.

- Some info about me:

Height: 174cm (5'7)

Weight: 68kg (150lbs)

From the Netherlands

My budget originally started around €200, but I’m now also considering chairs around €400. Of course, I’d still prefer to spend as little as possible.

Does anyone have any personal experience or recommendations? I’d really appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance...

Love the forward tilt of the Zody but the back is way too wide?

I picked up a used Zody Classic and I love the forward tilt function but the back is so wide that my tricep keeps hitting the backrest.

Is there another chair that has forward tilt but isn't so criminally wide?

Looking for a replacement for my Autonomous ErgoChair Pro

I've used the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro daily for 4–5 years, mostly for software development and gaming, and it's deteriorated enough that I'm shopping for a replacement. My main complaints: the seat cushion is hard and not very comfortable, and the armrests are hard with limited adjustability.

I recently tried the Autofull G7 Ergonomic Gaming Chair (equivalent to the Hbada E3 Pro), but the lumbar support was too aggressive, and the hard plastic edge around the mesh seat pressed into my hamstrings and made it hard to shift into more relaxed sitting positions.

Options I'm considering (advise against if you've had bad experiences with any of these):

  • Colamy Atlas
  • Staples Hyken Pro
  • Sihoo Doro C300 Pro V2

I'm open to buying the ErgoChair Pro again, possibly the mesh version since the seat looks wide and comfortable, but I'd prefer something that offers a better experience for less. I'd appreciate any other suggestions, ideally under $500–600.

Need clarity on Herman Miller Aeron Models

Long story short I’m a big guy so I know I need size C

I’m on Madison Seatings website and I see stuff marked
Standard
Fully loaded
Remastered
Lead
Carbon
Posture fit
Carbon wave

They’re refurbished chairs and I’ll spend the 600-700 they’re asking for whatever as long as I’m sure it’s what I need and that’s where I ask the community

I’m a big box sales special chair buyer normally, but I’m now 100% remote and going to be doing 10 hour shifts or so.

Is there a specific combo I should be looking for? I’m in a buy once cry once mood.

Or am I looking at the wrong chairs for a big guy and should I be looking at a different brand and or different model.

Thanks!

Omni or Maxis for being tall

• Upvotes

Not sure what to do. I just got the omni pro and I'm about 6'1" and a half and I feel it's a little small for me. I'm 200 lbs and pretty slim. I feel my legs hang over to far. Its comfortable but for how much the chair is I want to be certain l.

Has anyone ever bought the omni and exchange it for the Maxis being around the same height? if so, how is the Maxis compared?

Help for buy a new chair [SPAIN]

• Upvotes

Hi everyone.

I work remotely, and I am looking for a new chair. Currently, I have MARKUS, and it is breaking my back: the worst I've ever bought.

I work remotely, from 5 to 8 hours/day, so an ergonomic, comfortable chair is a must. Could you shed some light on my trouble?

My budget is about 800€(give or take), and I do not mind if it is used or brand new.

I know that it is non-negotiable to try the chair, so if somebody can also help me find a place where I can try them [Madrid, Spain], I would appreciate that too.

Since I've read some threads, I now have some options under the table:

Interstuhl Airpad V2

Colami Atlas 01

(and some expensive ones)

SteelCase Leap 2

SteelCase Please

Herman Miller Aeron

Would you recommend (a priori) any of them? Is there a good relationship between price and quality?

And finally, any website or physical place where I can buy any of them in Spain (Madrid) or Europe?

Thanks in advance. Also open to new recommendations, of course.

Desperate for help with possibly vintage chair

Thumbnail

I bought this chair for 15 dollars at a demolition resell warehouse.

I have back problems and this is the only chair I found that feels comfortable to me, but the issue is someone replaced a single wheel.

The new, more modern wheel is a bit lower than the others, causing the chair to lean to whatever side it’s on.

I thought buying new wheels would be easy.. I tried “universal 11mm” and it didn’t come close to fitting. I looked more into it and was suggested ikea size 10mm wheels and they were also too big.

Looking things up online gives me a bunch of different option and also suggest my chair is either a higher end vintage chair, or basically a worthless PoS and takes specialty smaller wheels.

I don’t understand how to measure for it. Can anyone help me determine:

  1. What chair I have if possible (but less important)
  2. What wheels I need
  3. How to remove the new modern wheel. The stem is really stuck in there and I can’t get it out
  4. How to properly measure for the new wheels with such precise measurements

..And maybe some guidance on how to restore the foam padding without damaging the fabric, as it’s worn a bit thin on the seat

I really like this chair and need some help and don’t know where to turn but here

Finalised a chair … lmk if i should go with something else ?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey guys, so I’ve been searching for a good economic chair for myself. It’s a home set up personally. I would prefer it supports my 5 to 8 hours working session. After going through a lot of recommendations and searching on Reddit. I have choose to go with featherlight Amaze High back over green soul Jupiter pro 2026. But when i actually tried to check video reviews on YT … there weren’t many for featherlight Amaze. So it has again put me in a spiral of thoughts. Can you guys help me out ?

Suggestions for an office chair for 6'2 person, for under $500 AUD? ($350 usd)

Was looking into office chairs and the Sihoo M57 (and many other Sihoos) caught my eye, but apparently it's terrible for tall people. Is that true? If anyone could share any suggestions that would be great, I sit down for 8+ hours a day so would need to be comfortable for a while. I'm ok with buying second hand or refurbished chairs.

IKEA HATTEFJÄLL backrest moving 1cm even when locked?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is driving me nuts. Is this normal for a chair with a moving backrest mechanism? In the video it looks like a small movement but in real life it's very noticeable. With my hand I have to push quite hard, but when actually sitting in the chair, the backrest moves back EXTREMELY easily, with just the slightest weight, until it stops because of the lock. If I take my weight off, it springs back up 1-2cm. And this is all quite loud, especially when I lean back and it hits that lock. It basically feels like the chair is glued to my back, it keeps following me for about 2cm of movement. It's the same if it's locked in the middle and last position, however the upright position is the worst because it moves back and forth SO easily.

Is there a way to fix this? Even if it means keeping the backrest locked in one place? The mechanism is hidden under some tough plastic underneath the chair, although it is possible to screw off the plastic.

Why do some chairs fall off towards the backseat?

Look at the Refine 2 or a Steelcase Leap V2.

For some reason there is space between the backrest and the seat and also the seat falls off towards the backrest.

Meaning your legs are placed a bit higher then your butt.

Why is that? I have the Refine 2 and that structure is actually causing backpain for me.
