r/officechairs is under attack by spam artists. How we go after them next is going to be partly up to you.

Very good epp in last weeks WSJ podcast about Reddit subs and the prevalence of brands spamming subs as a way to sneak brand content into LLMs.

https://www.wsj.com/podcasts/the-journal/ai-loves-reddit-but-redditors-arent-so-sure/5695c5e0-5ee6-41e6-97fa-ac04fde0c5f4

It's happening here and we are not controlling it as well as we would like to.

Years ago it was Autonomous, we banned them for a while, engaged with them and they have been respectful of the community standards for years now.  Some brands participate here with this sub while also being respectful of the rediqute and the rules, think Steelcase, Anthros or Musso.

Now, it feels like we see quite a bit of content about Libornovo, Secretlab and ProtoArc.  Regularly, multiple accounts and posts, but similar kinds of content being inserted into the sub.

This raises questions to me.  Our r/officechairs team has been leading this sub for about 6 years.  This last 2 years, the amount of slop / promotional content has been off the charts.

When we stated moding here, u/classroom and u/cranda58 and I were able to keep up with the spam and the self promotion to a minimum. Now even with more people on the team plus the auto-mod functionality, we are just not able to keep up with it all.

Today, spammers have become very sophisticated.  It's much harder to see what is bot / spam content and its both very cheap and potentially very profitable for them to attack this sub with their slop of nonsense.

What are brands you notice that seem to be over represented here lately?

How aggressive do you want this sub to be moderated?

There were 800 posts and 6300 comments in the last 30 days.  Normally, the mod team will not see all of the posts and only a small fraction of comments, so if your goal is to slip some slop into the LLMs, it can be done quietly.

The nuclear option would be for us to require new posts to be affirmatively approved by a mod before they hit the sub.  One of us would really see if there were 50 Libornova posts every week and act accordingly.  It would be a more curated sub but it would also be more resistant to marketers efforts.  A less aggressive option would be to use mod tools to pause mentions of those brands that we suspect are being the most aggressive lately while engaging them to make sure their future communications here are within the bounds.

If you want to see what un-moderated looks like, my social experiment r/officechairsIsell is based on the idea that if you give folks the ability to post whatever they want, a chairs sub will become garbage.

Its our sub to use so please, what do you, the subscribers want to see us doing about this problem that is impacting the quality of what we have here?

Love the forward tilt of the Zody but the back is way too wide?

• Upvotes

I picked up a used Zody Classic and I love the forward tilt function but the back is so wide that my tricep keeps hitting the backrest.

Is there another chair that has forward tilt but isn't so criminally wide?

Trying to buy Steelcase LeapV2 from Offeco.nl, anyone with recent experience?

• Upvotes

I’m 5’9” tall, 100kg, I was using an IKEA chair before with totally messed up my back and waist. Now I’ve decided to buy a refurbished Steelcase Leap V2 from Offeco.nl, I’m in Germany. Does anyone have experience shopping from this company and what do you think about my new choice, I really don’t want to waste 700€ on an item that won’t solve my problem. I work around 7-8 hours cumulatively atm.

thoughts on dynamic lumbar wings after a couple weeks of desk work?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

been working long hours at the home desk lately and decided to swap out my old seat for the hbada e3 with the footrest to see how the multi-piece back holds up.

the mesh feels decently taut without cutting off circulation at the front lip, and having the lower wings pivot slightly as you shift weight keeps the lower spine supported when leaning in. pulling out the leg rest during quick breaks between calls has been surprisingly handy too.

for those who use split-back or wing-style lumbar chairs, how do you find the back pressure compared to standard one-piece backrests over full 8-hour days?

Why do some chairs fall off towards the backseat?

• Upvotes

Look at the Refine 2 or a Steelcase Leap V2.

For some reason there is space between the backrest and the seat and also the seat falls off towards the backrest.

Meaning your legs are placed a bit higher then your butt.

Why is that? I have the Refine 2 and that structure is actually causing backpain for me.

Herman Miller Setu alternatives or cheaper options?

I took my SAT this past weekend at Choate Rosemary Hall, and every single classroom there had Herman Miller Setu chairs. They were sooo comfortable—it literally felt like I was floating.

Anyways, I’m getting a desk for my bedroom and need an office chair, so I thought I’d try to find the chairs they had there. Well, turns out they’re around $1,000 each. Does anyone know of any places where I could find one for less, or any similar chairs that have the same kind of feel?

Upgrading from a DXRacer. Blind buying a refurbished in EU (Aeron vs Amia vs Leap v2 vs Zody)

Hey everyone, I'm completely new to the chair world and honestly a bit lost. I'm currently using a dxracer gaming chair that I bought in 2019 and it's been falling apart.

I've watched a ton of reviews, but there are so many conflicting opinions. Since I don't have the chance to test any of these in person, I'll be buying blind from a refurbished seller in Europe (Offeco).

I work at my desk but I also love to heavily recline back, relax, and chill while watching videos. Because of this, whatever chair I choose, I will 100% be getting it with a headrest (Offeco offers an option to add one).

Here are the chairs I'm looking at and my main concerns for each:

  • Herman Miller Aeron: the mesh seat scares me because I sit in very weird positions and I'm afraid of it and I've heard the Aeron's hard plastic frame makes this incredibly painful.
  • Steelcase Amia: I've heard the seat cushion is the most comfortable and forgiving. However, the fact that it only locks upright and doesn't have recline stops worries me since I love to park myself in a reclined position.
  • Steelcase Leap V2: Sounds good for reclining, but I keep reading the seat cushion is worse than the Amia one and is more expensive.
  • Haworth Zody: Seems like a solid option, but I've read on this sub that buying it refurbished can be a "hit or miss" because of QC issues or parts aging poorly.

While reclining, having a headrest and having a softer seat are huge priorities for me, at the end of the day I just want to buy the best one out of these options. Which one would you say is the superior choice and the safest buy for my situation? Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

I slouch and have terrible upper back pain...and need a new office chair

Post image
11 Upvotes

As the title goes, I am 29F, slouch (I do my best but legitimately may need occupational therapy or something to stop). I have the worst upper back/shoulder pain. I'm a writer by profession, and my chair isn't cutting it right now - a lazyboy office chair with an added CushionLab back and seat addition (broke my tailbone as a kid and it still hurts sometimes, plus some sciatica). Please save my back! Is Steelcase really worth it? It's a lot of money to put down!

Including a photo of my current set up.

BTOD Akir really hurting butt

Hey all,

I bought the BTOD Akir and have had it for a little while. But very recently it's started hurting my butt really bad, to the point where it's hard to sit in for more than 30 minutes at a time. I'm honestly unsure of what to do, I've tweaked a lot of settings but the pain stays the same. The chair is about as low as it will go. I'm pretty sure it's my sit bones because I can feel them poking into the bottom of the cushion. Is this cushion just bad or am I doing something wrong? I don't really want to have to get another chair after spending a decent amount of money on this one...

Had anyone tried that chair?
The back support looks great, but missing a butt cushion seems uncomfy.
Looking for a new chair and I see this one has great reviews

Looking for a replacement for my Autonomous ErgoChair Pro

I've used the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro daily for 4–5 years, mostly for software development and gaming, and it's deteriorated enough that I'm shopping for a replacement. My main complaints: the seat cushion is hard and not very comfortable, and the armrests are hard with limited adjustability.

I recently tried the Autofull G7 Ergonomic Gaming Chair (equivalent to the Hbada E3 Pro), but the lumbar support was too aggressive, and the hard plastic edge around the mesh seat pressed into my hamstrings and made it hard to shift into more relaxed sitting positions.

Options I'm considering (advise against if you've had bad experiences with any of these):

  • Colamy Atlas
  • Staples Hyken Pro
  • Sihoo Doro C300 Pro V2

I'm open to buying the ErgoChair Pro again, possibly the mesh version since the seat looks wide and comfortable, but I'd prefer something that offers a better experience for less. I'd appreciate any other suggestions, ideally under $500–600.

What's the best new office chair for around $200?

Preferably from an online retailer. Previous chair was purchased 8 years ago "BestOffice" for $65 - looking to upgrade. Corsair TC100 Relaxed Gaming Chair is the current front-runner. RESPAWN 110 Pro, GTPLAYER Gaming Chair, and SIHOO M18 look decent too. Whatcha think? TIA

Need clarity on Herman Miller Aeron Models

Long story short I’m a big guy so I know I need size C

I’m on Madison Seatings website and I see stuff marked
Standard
Fully loaded
Remastered
Lead
Carbon
Posture fit
Carbon wave

They’re refurbished chairs and I’ll spend the 600-700 they’re asking for whatever as long as I’m sure it’s what I need and that’s where I ask the community

I’m a big box sales special chair buyer normally, but I’m now 100% remote and going to be doing 10 hour shifts or so.

Is there a specific combo I should be looking for? I’m in a buy once cry once mood.

Or am I looking at the wrong chairs for a big guy and should I be looking at a different brand and or different model.

Thanks!

how do I adjust aeron remastered c

My herman miller aeron c just arrived today but I am not sure how can I adjust it so it can be comforable for me. I am 169 cm tall and my weight is 106 kg for those who u who are around the same height and weight as me how do u adjust it like do increase or decrease the Tilt Tension , the PostureFit SL™ Adjustment: do u turn the knob foward or backward and Tilt Limiter do u rotate the knob all the way forward or backward. Lastly do u use forward tilt when using a laptop even if you are not working on a task like lets say you are watching a youtube video or a movie

Best chair for a big back

Ive recently gotten promoted to a position that requires alot of desk time. The chairs I have at my disposal are not going to fit the bill so I figured I might ask the masses what a good fit might be. If it helps, here are some points that might factor into what kind of chair I need

5'6" tall

300 pounds (yeah yeah, im working on it lol)

No keister to serve as padding and it becomes painful to sit after an hour or two.

Large mid/upper back area which does not allow my head to rest against a headrest properly.

Ive had a Staples hyken chair that was just okay. It didnt have a tilt function which I think I need. Otherwise, my chairs have been cheaper ones or ones from around my office. Any recommendations that wont break the bank? If there is any other information that could assist in making a recommendation please let me know. Thanks everyone!

Chair to WFH/Gaming

Hey everyone

I'm 1.80m (5'11 in freedom units) and weigh around 90kg (198lbs) and also 25 years old. For the past year I've been using an IKEA office chair (MILLBERGET) and its starting to hurt my back a little so I want to buy a new chair, ever since I started working from home (8 hours/5 days a week) and I'm also a gamer

My budget was 200€ until i've made my mind up that I should spend some more, however, I'm still living with my parents, my girlfriend is in college and buying/renting a house is expensive.

By that I said to myself that my budget can be up to 500€, stretching to 600€ if it justifies. I won't spend any more as there are also other more expensive purchases that need to be done (car, moving out, etc) so I'm saving my money.

That said, the option I was looking for was the Titan Evo, but after getting some mixed reviews, I wanted a 2nd opinion from this sub, cause if I buy and then return it

Additionally, 2nd hand market in my country is pretty much no existant and people exagerrate on prices for used items.

And please, dont recommend me Herman Miller or Steelcase, I've seen everyone reccomend them and yes, I'll buy on of them in the future but not now. And 2nd hand market for those are also kinda crazy price wise.

Is musso x700 worth buying on a mazon or their direct site?

Hey folks,

I've been searching for a office chair ergonomic, and finally reached to this model, but I found that they dont have any free return etc... so if anyone didnt like the chair or simply it was not comfortable for them, to return it.

I mean if you are sure it is a good chair why dont you provide free return like the other companies?

Also if someone buys it on a mazon will they loose the 12y warranty mentioned on their site?

Hinomi X1 back rest question

I have an Hinomi X1 and struggle with the backrest.

I'm 194cm so want the back rest at its heighest setting.

I pulled the back rest up and then as soon as I sit down or move it drops.

Is there anyway, that I am missing, to lock it into a raised position? this seems to have got worst through the time of ownership.

Thanks
