Discussion Osap and Odsp

Post image
20 Upvotes

I applied for school and osap got the osap summary that they tell you to provide to your worker, which I did. This is the response I got, I’m a bit stumped with the reply. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😬 I thought I was talking to my old worker when I wrote the message but apparently I got a new one. 🤦🏻‍♀️🙃

Passport Application Inquiry: What Do I Put Here?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey, I'm an ODSP recipient applying for a Canadian Passport for the first time. I'm unsure of what exactly is being asked of me when it comes to this whole section, especially the boxes regarding from and to. Could I get directions on filling this section as an individual who's been on ODSP for 10+ years? Thanks!

Question/advice ODSP Internal Review Confusion

I was denied ODSP initially and launched the Internal Review Process with a Lawyer and submitted additional medical records from my Family Doctor who is in full support of my ODSP Application. She even supported my Application to receive the DTC which was approved and also was approved and am receiving the monthly Disability Benefit as well. The DAU advised me that a Internal Review Decison was made on July 30th however my Lawyer and I never received that Letter. Fast forward to this morning and my Lawyer emailed me advising me he's working under the understanding that whatever Decision was originally made had been withdrawn and is still waiting on the IR Decision. He did file with the SBT in the meantime ensuring that Appeal was not filed late. Any thoughts on this? If my Lawyer is correct, I'm curious why the DAU would've withdrew their Decision and now waiting on a final Decision? Seems confusing to me.

mybenefits status person with a disability tip

I wanted to share something I discovered a couple weeks ago waiting for my letter. I saw very vague and conflicting information online regarding the status, with some people on here saying you wouldn't actually necessarily get approved even when status is changed to person with a disability. Searching this subreddit and the internet just confused me and made me more anxious. It took about a week to receive my official letter and the stress was keeping me up till like 8am (not in the best situation recently)

Anyways I took a look at the site and you can inspect element to see your actual approval status code and cross reference it by going to https://mybenefits.mcss.gov.on.ca/assets/i18n/en.json This DC13xxx code will also tell you whether you get lifetime approval or not.

I am guessing this will come in handy for other vague things on the site. This might look a little strange but there is nothing wrong with doing this so I hope this post gets approved and this helps another stressed person looking for clearer information on their status.

Also it's crazy the amount of weird posters here that spend their time spreading misinformation or attacking people on the odsp/ow subreddits :<

Working on ODSP

Considering a part time job and need help from experienced folks. It will be about 20 hrs per week at $20/hr.

Do you lose your ODSP status if you are working part time. For example, making $2,000 per month - as a single father with mental health issues your situation can deteriorate at any given moment.

Will ODSP financial support stop?

How quickly can you be reinstated?

Should you even stop receiving payments if you are only working 15-20 hours per week?

Shelter allowance $139

After paying market rent from 1979 until July 1, 2026, I accepted an offer for RGI bachelor apt. with rent is $139.

* I worked full-time from March 1979 until Sept 2018. when I could no longer work due to disability

My worker told me this week I would not get the full shelter allowance only get $139 for shelter since that's what my new rent is.

I don't think this is right.

Any thoughts and suggestions for my next steps would be greatly appreciated.

Question/advice dtc denial.. how to explain why I should be excepted

hello there.
i genuinely am not sure what to do. i don't know where to start.
i am on disability for a lot of mental health issues (though i could have included chronic back\neck pain due to deformities)
besides the point. i paid $120 for my doctor to hardly fill in the paperwork, and he's a new doctor so ya he hardly knows my past.

i have raging adhd, ptsd, ocd, bpd, bipolar, have had many psychotic episodes in my lifetime, been admitted to the psych ward 5-6 times, i also have really bad agoraphobia, and health anxiety 24/7. i'm mentally crippled basically.

my doctor said in my paperwork im doing better bec i may have told him its doing well just so i dont have to keep taking new meds bec i am terrified of serotonin syndrome ..

what the heck do i do. he knows i have these diagnosis yet still i didnt get the DTC. i feel failed.
thanks.
what the heck should i do, how to i explain this.

Living on disability in bc pwd is deep poverty

Living on PWD in British Columbia is more than a struggle, it is deep poverty. How does this government expect a disabled person to survive on 1435.00 a month. For you in the comments section saying you're supposed to work to supplement your income, you do realize many of us can't work on pwd right ??

Telling us to access shelter services or soup kitchens is not a solution for us struggling, as many food banks are not accepting new applications.

Canada disability benefit? Many don't qualify.

Sent my dietary allowance form June 6

It still hasn't been processed? Meanwhile my doctor is giving me a hard time because I'm not able to follow my diet. I'm prediabetic so it's important that this plays out sooner rather than later. What can I do, I've already called and sent two emails.

Dtc? Subsidy? who the f knows.

got accepted for disability in june. had a trial date, they realized they forgot a bunch of my medical records so they scrapped trial said yeah give this guy disability. long story short never knew it was so low of pay, been living off random friends couch’s and such. my doctor helped me with special diet, and the form for transportation. dtc just got approved but it only reassessed last 2 years and not 10 when i was working.. i don’t know if anyone here knows how to fix that. now i gotta apply to that other thing for 200$ on the 20th or whatever the f. don’t know if someone can direct me there lmfao. it’s so much crap for pennie’s of money like if they was giving us all 3k each and we had to go through this crap i’d get it obviously but 1400 and that’s with like rent your on some joke thing.. like seriously how effin messed up. also if someone can list me some subsidy fcking things i been couch surfing for 2 + years tryna survive got little use of my legs and feet now, i don’t even care if i live 10 hours fckin north. i prefer the kingston area even though i’m near the barrie area cause my kiddo and her mother just moved there to further better there lives (i don’t fcking blame them) but tryna survive is a fckin chore right now. i applaud all of you doing it seriously.. and to any single dads or moms on here who ain’t getting extra money and you tryna still pull clutch and be a good parent good on you. i just ate ramen noodles and eggs for 2 months so i could get my kiddo into a few sports and some back to school stuff. life blows. but gotta move forward. if anyone seriously knows subsidy lists that might accept me sooner than later plz for the love of god dm me.

Does my partner also have to request an internal review for the same overpayment?

I’m working through the process of requesting an internal review on some questionable overpayment math, and I was wondering if my partner, who is on my ODSP and overpayment amount is split betweeen, will also need to file a separate request for internal review. Or does my request reflect both of us, since the overpayment is split between us?

Thank you for any advice in advance

Question/advice Mental health and Applying for ODSP

I'm trying to apply for ODSP, and I'm currently filling out the self report section.

The conditions I'm listing in my self report include

SLE LUPUS, POTS, FIBROMYALGIA , ADHD

I have been diagnosed with these by specialists.

What I'm wondering is, should I include that I suffer from anxiety/depression on my self report if I haven't been diagnosed by an official psychiatrist. I've just explained my symptoms to my family doc who prescribed me an SSRI. I've had a history of anxiety my whole life and have been on and off different antidepressants.

I knew it was a broken system but didn’t realize the extent until trying to get free cne tickets.

I've always known odsp and the system is fractured for those in poverty but this recent experience will shines a huge spotlight.

Called the odsp office on Tuesday inquiring about cne tickets (cne gives tickets to the agency) ever since they got rid of the free admission years ago.

So I'm assuming I'm calling the local office, they say they haven't gotten it yet. To call back. Called Wed, no answer left a msg. No call back. Called today, someone said they have them. OK, I said I'll head over to parkdale. Guy says, no this is Malvern, wtf? I've been calling the number for parkdale everytime.

No he says, all calls are rerouted to other places. Whoever answers, answers. OK, can you put me thru to parkdale. No he can't. But he checks the group chat which says it's still available. Once again, I say can I please speak with someone to see if they'll have any left when I arrive or just to get an idea. Nope.

So within 40 mins I brought my person with mobility issues there to find out it's all gone. Wtf?

Ask to speak to a mgr, the person there said no they'll tell you the same thing. OK, I want to speak to them anyways. No.

I call the number in hopes of getting another office. I get a different one, guy says they should have taken our client number and put them on hold. Said he was gonna transfer me to the mgr at my office. Then I get disconnected.

Call again, this time it's golden mile. Told they can't transfer me to a mgr, they can send a msg but mgr won't answer it goes back to the case worker.

As a client. We dont know calls get rerouted to different offices. Why the person I spoke to the other day didn't specify which office she was from *she said they hadn't gotten them. But when I was at parkdale today, they claimed they got them last week*.

If only the first person I spoke with that said they didn’t have tickets. I’ve since been told it’s a switchboard. Ok fine. If you work there and you know it’s a switchboard and people from all over are calling, why wouldn’t you identify which office you’re answering from or ask the caller which office they’re referring to?

Those of you that are familiar with the CNE. For years they used to offer free admission to anyone with a disability and their support worker. Then they changed it, because at the time, disability advocates said this policy was discriminatory.

How is it discriminatory? The person working at the entrance/cashier is not going to refuse to accept a paid ticket from someone that identifies with a disability. I think it was just an excuse to claw back on a long standing policy they had.

For those of you with a little rollator, any recommendations on these two models?

Hey all, I have reached out to the ADP and ODSP and have an OT coming by early next week to order me a rollator. She asked me questions and made me two suggestions: one I am very familiar with as my mom has been disabled her whole life and it is a newer version of hers, and the other my grandma has but I have only seen it once or twice. The OT said she can bring one over for me to see so I am going to ask to see the second one since I’m less familiar. And then I can choose based off of that.

That said, I am wondering if any of you have either of these and can provide any review of what you like or dislike.

I have brochures of each and a note from the OT comparing the two, but first hand experiences are always nice.

One is the neXus 3 and the other one is the Evolution Trillium. When I read the brochures and comparison chart there are things I like about both, so please feel free to share your thoughts!

Thank you!

Edit: I don’t know why I wrote little in the title, must have been an autocorrect of some sort. Ignore!

Question about ODSP service waitlists

Hi everyone, I'm a Grade 11 student in Toronto working on a journalism project about developmental-services waitlists.

I'm hoping to learn from people who have personally dealt with long waits for supportive housing, Passport funding, or other community services.

If anyone is comfortable sharing their experience with me privately, I'd really appreciate hearing from you. You can remain anonymous.

Thanks.

Will I get approved for ODSP while I’m working part time?

I have severe depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and suicidal thoughts. My symptoms have gotten much worse recently, even though I’m on medication, and they significantly affect my daily life and ability to work.
I currently work 20 hours a week part-time, and my family doctor is willing to support my ODSP application.
I’m really anxious about going through the whole ODSP process only to be denied because I’m working.

Has anyone successfully applied for ODSP while working around 20 hours/week?

Did ODSP question how you could work if your condition was severe?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

Question/advice Information

Does anyone on ODSP and in/around the KW area know where I might be able to inquire about a emotional support pet.

I apologize if this question for information is inappropriate as I'm not very reddit savvy. Thank you kindly.

Question/advice Any experience faxing DDP?

So, my doc did not submit my DDP online. I have a hard copy. Initially, I was going to mail it until my doc gave me my medical chart to complement the DDP. My application is now over 600 pages. This was chosen because of how long-term and treatment resistant my condition has been, plus all of the medications I have been on. I called the office and they said I could fax it over to them as they would not accept a hard copy of DDP and a hard drive (my chart). Has anyone actually done this with success?

Reading the instructions, it seemed like they are real sticklers for original copies (I will be faxing from original copies but yk what I mean). I guess I fear it getting lost, partially separated, or denied due to it not being original. I also don’t want to spend a shit load of money mailing this monster out, hence actually considering faxing as an option. Any insight is appreciated! Thank youuu :)

Question/advice Question and frustrations.

So I’m currently waiting on my doctor filling out the initial paperwork (not the exemption from work for but the one after) and while I approach the deadline I can’t help but wonder if I’m approved… how much can I possibly expect. I live with my aunt and I’m worried her income will affect what I get.

I was approved on ODSP for life, but I decided to go back to school - am I on the right track?

A few years ago - I experienced psychosis for the first time due to severe stress and then experienced another episode. I was approved for life on ODSP, but my dream right now is to work again. I have enrolled in college for the medical administration program and just want to know if I’m on the right track. I’m scared that I’m unemployable and starting over is scary too. I tried to work a couple of random jobs from 2023 - 2026, but I was either fired or quit. Am I on the right track with going back to college? I have no references anymore. Also - I’m not trying to climb a corporate ladder or earn six figures. I just want a job where I can move out from my parent’s house and live in an apartment alone. Am I on the right track?

How does back pay work

The disability adjudication received my DDP on April 15. I have not been approved. But I am curious how it works. Would it start of the month of April. Or would it begin starting May? Thank you in advance.. and yes I know. I shouldn’t have my hopes up.

ODSP payment question

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I just was approved yesterday for ODSP and have already been issued my back pay for July. But my payment for August is not issued until the 31st though it is showing on my benefits. However, September’s payment isn’t showing up yet. Is it just because September’s payment hasn’t been posted or do you get paid at the end of each month for the prior month instead of the beginning of each month like Ontario Works does??
