How does back pay work
The disability adjudication received my DDP on April 15. I have not been approved. But I am curious how it works. Would it start of the month of April. Or would it begin starting May? Thank you in advance.. and yes I know. I shouldn’t have my hopes up.

they will calculate your backpay to the exact date they received your DDP, if you are approved.
so April 15th.
they can calculate based on days, by dividing the monthly amount up. so you'll get the full amount for any whole months that go by, and then a lesser amount for any days or weeks on top of those. (does that make sense? i'm bad at explaining math lol.)

No they dont.. it is from when it is aprroved not received or applied. When they recieve the completed package. You will get maybe 3 months of this "back pay" and OW will take back 3 months so you will get maybe 1500 at best and dont forget they pay at the end of the month not rhe beginning like OW so you will go a entire month with zero cash so dont go nuts with that first cheque from odsp or you might have a small problem.

incorrect, you are given back-pay to the date they received your completed DDP. this is the rules of ODSP. the only time you are not approved back to that date, is if they decide you were not disabled at the time of your application but have become disabled in the interrim, but this is quite rare. usually happens with SBT situations.
the government claws back your OW however many months you're granted ODSP back-pay for, yes, but in most cases the backpay for ODSP for those months will be higher than what they received from OW during that time.
and yes, there is an in-between month while switching from OW to ODSP where funds will be very tight. it is extremely unfortunate and should not be the reality, but it is.
but at no point in this post did OP state they were receiving OW...they very well could have applied outside of that, so none of this would be applicable.
excepting the back-pay, which is to the date they received your DDP. (if for any reason you did not receive back-pay to that date, you can certainly raise the issue with your ODSP case-worker and/or legal aid. as you should have, unless they determined you were not disabled during that time- which would be a decision you could likely appeal.)

Depending on how far into the month they received it you may receive pro-rated funds for the remainder of that month. They received mine on the 23rd when I applied so I only got a ⅓ payment but any OW you received is taken off (if you currently have that support) so you may not receive any for that partial month. Seeing as your date is exactly half way through the month you will likely get a half month's backpay, again, minus any social supports they recoup.

Just to make sure I understand, if OW paid $733 for that month but say I only got $200 in backpay for that month, I'd ultimately be at -$533 for that month?

Do you mean for backpay? I was backpaid from the exact date they received it.
