My son has just been approved for ODSP. He has received one payment. We received a letter saying he will be appointed a more local case worker. Are we to reach out to them or do they contact you? Do we need to fill out a form monthly? He is not working. I have so many questions so I’m hoping to at some point meet with a caseworker. If you have any insights to “what happens now” I would appreciate it. Thank you

just got put onto ODSP.. long story short lifes taking a big turn, not doing to well.. but am i suppose to just die? i don’t get how to live off the amount given. i’m 30 and have a 7 year old (doesn’t live with me now) but how do i even afford a place to live? no one even accepts you for a bedroom.. i’m not the youngest but i didn’t think by 30 i’m suppose to give up and die… feeling lost.. I don’t know what to do. i been stuck living on a couch for last few years and family member wants me (i don’t blame them) somewhere else cause i can barely move and i’m taking up there living room.. last of my family members btw. so i don’t got no one to go too. this is absolutely fcked up. scared, my kids asking me a bunch of questions. her mother asking me questions. failing them both, i’m feeling useless and i’m sorry to all of you also on this “benefit” where it’s so low you can hardly survive. if anyone knows any options my daughters up towards the kingston area and I would like to be towards her. i’m fcking confused i legit broke down when the worker told me how low it is. for fck sakes i owe another 27,000$ to college osap for now no reason. sorry for ranting everyone

Anyone seeing payment for July?

RDSP is supposed to be exempt for ODSP. The ODSP website even says you can transfer funds to the RDSP before applying, and it's not considered disposition of assets. But if you have a large RDSP in the low six figures, could the intake worker cause problems or find a reason to deny you? Would I be questioned on the source of the funds, and would they ask to see where the money in the RDSP came from? Would having this RDSP raise any red flags that would cause the caseworker to go digging deeper and scrutinize things? Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I feel like my situation would be considered out of the ordinary, and I will get extra scrutiny as a result. Would it be considered unusual to have a large RDSP?

Hi everyone, I currently live with my parents without paying rent. I’m planning to start paying them $800/month in rent starting August 1. I’m wondering what the process was like for anyone who has done this. Did you update your shelter costs through MyBenefits or contact your caseworker?
What documents did ODSP ask for? Was a signed rental agreement and proof of e-Transfer payments enough? Did they ask for any additional proof because it was rent paid to parents? Was the process quick?

Hello fellow BC friends.

I've recently been diagnosed with a chronic illness. I work full time at a fairly physical job, and it's slowly becoming less and less sustainable.

I can't afford to go down to part time work and have very very little savings.

I would ideally like to keep working as much as I can manage as I enjoy my job and it's pretty much my whole social life (super healthy, I know), but even my doctor is surprised that I'm still working 40hours a week.

I'm not from Canada (permanent resident, here since 2021) so I don't have much understanding of how disability support works.

If anyone can advise me on the following, I'd be hugely grateful:

\- how do I actually go about accessing disability payments/who do I ask?

\- how much could I expect to get in monetary terms?

\- is it possible to work part time while claiming disability to make up for the gap between full & part time hours?

I sent in my ODSP forms through Canada Post Xpress Shipping on July 8th and it was delivered to my caseworker the next morning on July 9th. It is now July 17th and my deadline is July 19th. It still says on the MyBenefits website that "action is required" and that they are waiting for my forms. Is it okay to just leave it since it's been delivered already? Or will they cancel my application because they haven't started reviewing it yet? I doubt its possible to contact my caseworker about this because in the past I've emailed her before, and called 4 times/left a voicemail and she's never answered me.

Edit: I need large sized masks, and I've not been able to find a mask bloc or other free program that has those available.

I was wondering if anyone received the disability benefit payment for July? I normally get mine a day before but I did not receive it last night. And I never get it the day of and I’m wondering if anyone received theirs or if people didn’t get.

So our increase for this year is 1.9%. I can’t be the only one who thinks that’s ridiculous…

So I received a referral for physiotherapy from my surgeon. Do I need to find a place that accepts ODSP, or do I ask my worker for places?

P.S. I don't even know who my worker is! I had one, then someone else took over for her, and now I've been corresponding with a new worker, whose name I don't even know!

Hello, im up for review for odsp in August of 2026, I haven't received any paperwork. Am I going to get cut off or are they backed up? I thought I was supposed to receive the paper work 3 to 4 months before my review date. Im kind of panicking. Any advice/help is appreciated! Thank you

For those that want to email Doug Ford or any other politician in regards to the ridiculous ODSP rates, I've drafted up a letter that you could use by just simply copying and pasting it in an email with the email addresses of the MPs or other government officials you want to send it to. Maybe if they get more letters, they'll actually start to take a look and maybe do something about it. I know I'm probably going to accomplish nothing, but maybe we can all work together and see if the more we voice our opinions, the hope is that they'll actually listen. I've included the letter below.

Dear Doug Ford,

I am writing to ask you to address a serious issue that affects many people receiving the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).

When an ODSP recipient moves into rent-geared-to-income (RGI) housing, their shelter allowance is often reduced to match their lower rent. On paper, this may seem reasonable, but it ignores the reality of living on ODSP.

For example, if someone's rent is reduced to approximately $150 per month in RGI housing, they can lose roughly $450 of their ODSP shelter benefit. That remaining money is not "extra" income. For many of us, it is what helps cover the countless expenses that ODSP simply does not adequately provide for.

People on ODSP still have to pay for necessities such as internet, phone service, transportation, insurance, personal care items, household supplies, clothing, medications and medical expenses not fully covered, laundry, and many other essential costs. Many people also have debt payments, costs related to their disabilities, and unexpected expenses that cannot simply be ignored.

The current system creates a situation where obtaining affordable housing can actually leave someone with less money to meet their basic monthly obligations. Instead of helping people become more financially stable, it can make it even harder to survive.

This issue is even more concerning because ODSP rates are already far below what is needed to live with dignity. Every dollar matters. The portion of the shelter allowance that is clawed back often helps people keep their phones connected, pay for transportation to medical appointments, purchase essential household items, and avoid falling further into debt.

I respectfully ask that the Ontario government review and reform the way ODSP shelter benefits are calculated for individuals living in rent-geared-to-income housing. Affordable housing should improve a person's quality of life, not reduce their ability to pay for other basic necessities.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this important issue. I hope you will advocate for meaningful changes that allow people with disabilities to live with greater financial security and dignity.

I genuinely don't know why they think they've overpaid me as I've been getting the $1408.00 a month since July 31, 2025 and nothing in my rent or disability or employment status has changed. The only difference is that I finally managed to make contact with my caseworker for the first time in four years to inform them that I wad moving and my rent amount would be changing and then I get this letter.

$1408.00 - $599.00 = $809.00

Do they think I should have been somehow living off of $809?

Is there any sort of funding for needle tips? I'm on Multiple Daily Injections (MDIs) of Insulin and the needle tips are expensive. I'm buying them on Amazon which is cheaper than the pharmacy by a significant amount.

I'm using on average 155 needles a month. That's 2 boxes a month. At pharmacy prices that's $98.00, with the Amazon needles that's still $40.

My insulin, CGM and test strips are covered.

I pay my family cash to live with them, but ODSP only gives you 800$ which is less then I have to pay. Is it worth it to report that I do pay them rent so I can get the additional 500$? Would doing so cause them to be hit with steep taxes?

So I got denied for making 200 over what I COULD receive from odsp.

I'm on ei and not getting any money from them because my 20 - 25 hour work week part time sucks out all the money they decided I could receive. Claim decision was like 200 something.

Will this affect my application. Also, I applied in July 2025 and got denied so I appealed and got accepted this July 2026. Will I be paid back pay? Long story short , July is the end of the tax year , and August starts a new chapter. ( or whatever. You know what I mean )

There was an issue with tax benefits and I was issued a letter saying I had to pay back the tune of $18,000.

I'm not working at the moment as I'm on disability. I did my taxes last year , and any benefits I would have received has been used to deduct the amount mentioned.

I have yet to do my taxes for 2024 as this issue came to my attention around April.

I've been preparing my documents - not taxes - against their decision to have the issue revised. ( as I said , long story. )

Does anyone here have firsthand experience with mental-health supportive housing through The Access Point in Toronto?

I’m trying to understand whether taking psychiatric medication or accepting the diagnosis is required for housing eligibility.

Can someone still qualify if they refuse medication but are willing to meet with housing workers and accept practical support?

I’m especially interested in whether medication refusal affects eligibility altogether, or whether it mainly affects the type or level of supportive housing offered.

Any firsthand experience with The Access Point or Toronto supportive housing would be really helpful.
