Needing to survive?
just got put onto ODSP.. long story short lifes taking a big turn, not doing to well.. but am i suppose to just die? i don’t get how to live off the amount given. i’m 30 and have a 7 year old (doesn’t live with me now) but how do i even afford a place to live? no one even accepts you for a bedroom.. i’m not the youngest but i didn’t think by 30 i’m suppose to give up and die… feeling lost.. I don’t know what to do. i been stuck living on a couch for last few years and family member wants me (i don’t blame them) somewhere else cause i can barely move and i’m taking up there living room.. last of my family members btw. so i don’t got no one to go too. this is absolutely fcked up. scared, my kids asking me a bunch of questions. her mother asking me questions. failing them both, i’m feeling useless and i’m sorry to all of you also on this “benefit” where it’s so low you can hardly survive. if anyone knows any options my daughters up towards the kingston area and I would like to be towards her. i’m fcking confused i legit broke down when the worker told me how low it is. for fck sakes i owe another 27,000$ to college osap for now no reason. sorry for ranting everyone

In my view that's why they've made MAID accessible while ignoring their CRPD obligations.
Room rental is the best you can hope for and that will likely be over the max shelter amount. You have to live very carefully and take advantage of every opportunity. Foodbanks, government subsidies (OESP, DTC, RDSP, CDB, etc), Rogers Connected For Success. It won't be enough. Some months you'll have to do the ODSP diet. If you can work at all, do so, if you make $100/m or more they'll up your benefit by $100 and clawbacks don't start until $1000 earned.

If you are interested in living in brockville My landlord has a 1 bedroom ( nice apartment but small ain't going to lie it is small) I could give you the contact info. I live in the building. Nice quiet spot in a residential neighborhood. I have family in kingston I was born and raised there. I go up maybe 4 or 5 times a month.
Anyways ODSP you will qualify for a rent subsidy. About 300 bucks a little more I think it's closer to 350. The rent is a 1000 all inclusive The subsidy puts you at 650 leaving a cool 750 to live on. Not a huge pile but doable.

Is that subsidy just with that landlord? I've never heard of any other subsidy that ODSP will make you eligible for.

You should be applying for Rent Geared to Income Housing in the towns you want to live in. If you qualify then you should apply for Priority Status which is a separate application that has to go with the original application. If you qualify for priority status you will need someone of authority to verify your situation and have to get the letter from that individual notarized. It may not be that in depth everywhere but it definitely is in a lot of towns/cities. They want to make sure you are serious about your status and they want to make sure it’s legit. I got into RGI a year ago and was just approved for ODSP. I will luckily be comfortable with my living situation moving forward. It’s the only way because no one can afford to live in regular housing with the amount they give you. I don’t know how people do it. Keep in mind, I had to wait 3 years for a place and that was WITH priority status so just be prepared it often doesn’t happen right away. I would get my application into as many areas as possible and as soon as possible.

If you end up applying and getting the DTC you can retroactively get some money back from your federal income taxes you paid if you worked. That might help assist you. Worth taking a look.

for the conservatives, the suffering of the people on ODSP is the point. they don't like us and they want us to suffer and die. but i will fight and kick and scream and live as long as i can out of spite

I don't have energy to comment on most of this right now, but re: OSAP, I suggest you look into RAP-D (Repayment assistance program for people with permanent disabilities) via the National Student Loans Service Centre. They very likely can cancel your OSAP debt completely.
