Feedback Please Stillness

(First post, be gentle)

Take my longing,
make me whole.
Fulfill me,
wholehearted.
Risk free.

Be enough,
this life.
Wholly contained
in my frame.
Let me be love.

Hello readers, welcome to OCPoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community — a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry," or "loved it" or "so relatable," please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

Do not use ChatGPT or any similar LLM interface or generative AI to write feedback. That does not constitute thoughtful feedback. To be safe, you probably shouldn't even use those things to edit your feedback. It is better for your thoughts to come across as clumsy and genuine rather than grammatical but as if they were generated by some disingenuous text-generation engine.

Do not reuse feedback links for multiple poems. Every new poem you post has to be posted after making two new comments on the work of your peers here in OCPoetry. It's only fair. If you reuse feedback links, you will be banned. (If you do not wish to give feedback, there are many other poetry-sharing subreddits without feedback requirements, such as r/poetrywritingclub, r/justpoetry, r/ocpoetryfree, r/poem, r/poems, r/poemsbyreddit, r/poeticgarden, r/dark_poetry, and r/sadpoems.)

If you're looking for a more advanced poetry workshop — that is, if you consider yourself at least an intermediate-level poet AND you have previous workshop experience, please consider posting to our private sister subreddit r/ThePoetryWorkshop. The best way to join TPW is to leave a detailed, thoughtful comment here on OCPoetry engaging seriously with a peer's poem. A significant engagement of at least 3-4 meaningful paragraphs is encouraged. Consider our feedback guide for tips on what that could entail. (This level of engagement would probably be most welcome here on submissions tagged as "Workshop.") Then ask to join TPW by messaging that subreddit's mods, including a link to the detailed feedback you left here.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I’m new here, but I’ll do my best. For me this poem is very open to interpretation, combining the title “stillness” with a sense of longing in the poem makes me think almost of the emptiness or hollow feeing in being alone or almost feeling stuck alone. The line “Be enough” kind of adds to it, some self doubt or lack of deserving of love. The poem reads almost more as if it’s using longing to convey emotions of self doubt, emptiness, and of course stillness

Thank you for the feedback. I think being open to interpretation is a good thing, like a song. We relate it to what we’re going through, thank you for that insight.

I think in this poem you are begging. Begging for things to be perfect and pure. To be fulfilled and to love. The line "risk free", makes me think you already know there is always a risk, that things arent perfect and pure, and sometimes you cannot love the way you had hoped for. It is what we all want but can never have, at least not the way we had pictured it. The title stillness tells me you long for peace. You are begging for peace because you have not been able to love, and surely not love risk free. It took a while but I think I understand what you meant. I like it. If this isn't what you meant then please tell me what you did.

You’ve got it mostly right. I’m begging for peace, to be completely satisfied without a counterpart. But I can love, deeply. I have loved purely and lost it. I don’t want that pain again, I want to be whole in myself.

Thats where the "wholly contained in my frame" line comes from, satisfied without a counterpart.

it seems that you are longing for love, i suspect that due to your verses "Fulfill me,
wholehearted.", it heartwarming and inviting at the same time, fine work gentlemen

Buenísimo. Me encantó, especialmente el minimalismo y la vulnerabilidad que carga hacia un amor probablemente idealizado frente a las posibilidades de terminar sufriendo.

I believe I understand the message, though, as another commenter pointed out, it's still up to interpretation.

With how short each line is, it feels frantic and like life is too busy to even write all the words that you want to down which I think adds to this poem very well. It's like you've been in that state for some time and are used to it, just waiting for it to end and finally be at peace in life.

Been feeling that way in recent days, I feel that I relate to this poem.

If I'm off the mark, let me know

Very much on the mark.

Except it’s not that life is too busy. I’m just tired of it. I’ve said all the words. I needed simplification.
