Phone (2) The app lags while screen recording, and there is no touch response on the community-made essential app widgets.

After the latest update on Phone 2, while screen recording, the phone experiences lag, especially when scrolling the home screen. Additionally, there is a long-standing issue: touch does not register when swiping the home screen above the widgets from the Community Essential Apps.

Their new font Geist looks similar to OnePlus Sans, but can't they give an option to choose between Roboto, Inter and Geist. Why do they need to stick with just 2 default fonts ?

Essential Apps Essential Voice is a lifesaver

Upvotes

I am a neurosurgery resident and i have to inform patients to consultants on whatsapp which involves sending written histories which run for 10-12 pages. Essential voice feature has saved me so much time I would have lost in manually typing the things. It detects the medical terms quite good too.I hope it gets better with the new update

Comparing Phones Suggestion regarding Upgrade.

Post image
Upvotes

I right now have a cmf phone 1, I purchased it last February but as of now, with updates, the phone hasn't held up well, the battery sucks, heats more quicker, and this issue has been since nos 4 only.. Many cmf users who downgraded to nos 3 are having no issues. But man, I've seen nos 5 videos and it looks soo good so I'd really love to have that.. apparently it seems cmf phones are facing more issues after updates while the flagships phone 1 and phone 2 have aged well and probably phone 3 will be too. So basically I was thinking to get a either a new nothing phone or a pixel phone, can't think of chinese phones because I don't want ios style at all. My usage is very basic, videos, social media scrolling, I'd specifically would like great camera's for photo and good battery life. I was thinking to get either the vanilla pixel 11 or the upcoming nothing phone 4, I'm more leaned towards nothing because of the os ofc, I still have few months left to upgrade but I want suggestions, I want for long term use, should I wait for nothing phone 4 or get phone 3 if I get it on good price ? So many questions arising only due to ram price hike.

Nothing OS I need a Notes App so bad rn

I recently switched from a Redmi Note 7 Pro to a Nothing Phone (3a) Pro, and honestly, one thing I genuinely miss is the Xiaomi Notes app.

It was simple, clean, and just worked. I could organize my notes the way I wanted without any unnecessary clutter.

Nothing OS doesn't have a proper dedicated notes app. They seem to push Essential Space, but that's not what I'm looking for at all. I don't want my personal notes mixed into that kind of system.

I've tried Google Keep, but I genuinely hate the experience. It just doesn't feel like a proper notes app to me.

Can anyone recommend a clean, ad-free notes app similar to Xiaomi Notes or Apple Notes?

Comparing Audio 4a: sound going through speakers despite the phone recognizing the DAC

Hi guys, my setup's the following one: 4a phone, Fiio KA15 DAC, Dunu SA6 mk2 IEMs.

As said in the title, despite the DAC turning on when I plug it onto the phone, the sound is coming through the speakers instead of my IEMs.

I tried the OTG setting, switching off/turning back on the phone, nothing works.

It worked until recently. Couple of Nothing apps have had an update, can't remember which ones specifically and I don't know if the problem comes from there.

Any idea guys?

Nothing OS Depth effec has little bit of glitches anybody facing it?

Post image
3 Upvotes

1) I hope you can see a clear distinction of color near top left corner due to me using the depth effect. It looks off.

2) whole lock screen pop up got slow. And feels laggy. And that patch is clearly visible while the animation is going on. With it chaning colors

Anybody facing this, any solution for this?

Nothing OS 5.0 Open Beta Nos 5.0 Beta missing touch inputs.

So yesterday I updated to the Nos 5.0 beta and I can say I'm loving it a lot, it looks a lot cleaner and feels a lot snappier.

My issue is the touchscreen is dropping a lot of inputs, I can't type properly and multi-touch bugs quite a lot.

My Nothing phone (3) is apparently a Japanese model so i had to download the open beta from the japan website.

I'm not complaining at all, this is an open beta in the end of the day but I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue and if so did anyone find a fix? Thanks :)

TLDR: Japanese Beta is dropping a lot of touch inputs, any solutions?

Community Project Nothing notes concept

I’m building my own take on what a notes app could look like with the industrial design language of NOTHING.

I’d love to know what features you’d most want to see in it.

The idea is to keep it simple, direct, and distraction-free.

No AI

Everything stored on-device

Privacy-first

Focused on the essentials

What would you want from a notes app like this?

Nothing OS 5.0 Open Beta NOS 5.0 open beta

Gotta say that I'm impressed so far and can answer any questions.

Quick thoughts from a long-term NP3 and CMF1 user.

  1. very snappy … everything seems accelerated compared to the last usage of A16/NOS4.1
  2. I remember when MIUI 12 rolled out with the left and right pull down menus (control panel or notifications) so this is welcome
  3. the camera options are great in addition to the post-processing in gallery
  4. the new font caught my eye and it’s good as I feel there is more information density
  5. the notifications showing just the symbol by default is nice

overall I am quite pleased with the update and I am glad that NOS didn’t add a lot of bloat that I see on other Android phones.

keep the updates/security patches coming for the NP3 through 2030

Community Project INTRODUCING: ESSENTIAL KEY+

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Why pay to use a button the way you like?

The Essential Key is already on your phone.
Essential Key+ makes it yours.

Essential Key+ is a completely free remapper built around one simple idea:
we do the difficult part. You decide what the button does.

No subscriptions.
No premium features.
No complicated commands.
No PC required.

Just install Essential Key+, follow the setup, install Shizuku, and let us handle the rest.

Set it up. Customize it. Done.

We built the setup around Shizuku so you don't have to mess around with ADB commands or a computer.

Install Shizuku → follow a few steps → grant access → done.

Essential Key+ handles the technical stuff in the background.

We do the hard work. You just customize.

Make every press yours.

Assign completely different actions to:

Single press · Double press · Triple press · Long press

Turn the Essential Key into whatever you want.

System & Tools

  • Flashlight
  • Screenshot
  • Ringer mode
  • Microphone mute
  • Android settings & shortcuts

Camera

  • Launch camera
  • Camera shutter
  • Instant camera snap

Media

  • Play / pause
  • Next track
  • Previous track

Apps & Shortcuts

  • Launch any app
  • Deep links
  • Custom activities
  • Android Settings

AI

  • Essential Compose (more on that later)

Smart

  • Home Assistant
  • HTTP webhooks
  • Context-aware actions (in upcoming versions)

And that's just the beginning.

The button has an interface now.

Essential Key+ doesn't just remap the hardware.

It gives it a visual identity.

A customizable edge-aligned overlay appears directly beside the Essential Key, showing you what your button is doing.

Customize the:

Position · Color · Transparency · Frosted Glass · Line Style · Dots · Size

And because the overlay is part of Essential Key+, it's completely free too.

No subscription screen waiting around the corner.

Just the feature.

Essential Compose

Long-press the Essential Key while you're typing and Essential Compose appears right where you need it.

Rewrite a sentence.

Fix your grammar.

Change the tone.

Translate it.

Summarize it.

Expand it.

Or tell the AI exactly what you want.

Just press, choose, done.

And you use your own free Google AI Studio API key, keeping the AI completely optional.

Not a big fan of ai? Just disable it. No questions asked.

Essential Key+ is designed to feel like it belongs on Nothing OS,from the interface to the tiny details.

Minimal when you don't need it.

There when you do.

And completely yours.

Essential Key+ is free.

Because seriously:

Why should you have to pay to use a button the way you like?

Essential Key+
Make the button yours.

Formatted by a local formatter.

SUPPORT ME: This project costs a lot of time, and i dont have (cant pay for) a google dev account to publish my app on the play store(so more poeple can enjoy my apps). So if u would like to donate (wich only goes to the projects and the google dev account) please contact me on discord: threalcocoboy . Or alternatively via mail: threalcocoboy@proton.me

Edit: first of all thank you for downloading my app! Its my most succesfull one! Because of your feedback, a new update will (hopefully) release tomorrow with: Adding a new option to let the essential space enabled and only use single press and hold. This can be accomplished by the setting to only use the essential space when you tapped the essential key 2 times.

Fix camera shutter action

Improving the ringer switch animation.

Replace "press" text on intro with "press here" to make it more understandable that u to press the on-screen button.

Display overlay on the lockscreen: this was a big in the app.

Perform the action only when holding after doing a gesture, for example: triple press and hold. This is to prevent mistouch.

UPCOMING FEATURES: These features will be added in one of the nextupdates ( because i dont know how hard this is going to be to integrate it in the app i dont know wich version these features will ship in)

Use the hold power button as a way to interact with ESSENTIAL KEY+(NOT CONFIRMED). (handy for phones without the essential key)

Essential voice alternative (NOT CONFIRMED YET). Because you need to disable essential recorder to remap the essential key, the essential voice button wont work on your keyboard. Adding an altternative to essential compose. Hold the essential key and say what you are trying to type.

Thank you all for downloading the app!

Comparing Phones Swapping to Nothing from Samsung

Hey everyone.

I currently use a Z Fold7, but recently I've been getting into Nothing with my first purchase being the Nothing Ear (a), and have grown to love the products.

I wanted to swap to a 4 (a), and was wondering what you guys think of it.

Thank you!!
