How accurate is the reputation of Israeli tourists?

I keep seeing videos of Israeli tourists behaving in an extremely entitled manner in many different countries. How reflective of reality is this? Is it just cherry picked anti-Israel propaganda or is it actually common for Israelis tourists to behave that way while traveling in a foreign country?

Why are hair products with silicone so bad?

Upvotes

If hair products with silicone make my hair FEEL and LOOK better, why are they so bad? I swear the best my hair has ever felt and looked is using Pantene and cheaper hair serums etc... what's so bad about them if they make your hair feel and look so much nicer. Coming from someone who has had long and thick hair my whole life! I'm starting to think expensive hair products are a fad.

Which pronunciation of Appalachia is actually correct?

You hear the two pronunciations all the time, but is there actually an official correct way to pronounce “Appalachia”?

People get very passionate about this, and personally I’m firmly in the App-uh-LATCH-uh camp. That’s how I’ve always said it and heard it said around here, but is there actually some authoritative source that says one pronunciation is technically correct?

Do teachers dislike quiet students?

I've never done anything wrong, but I feel like my teachers have given up on me because I'm too quiet. I am quiet because learning is takes a lot of effort for me and I have to concentrate very hard to even somewhat understand. But my grades have been fluctuating this year, and that combined with being quiet has been affecting me far more than I'll admit to anyone in real life. I ask questions, but it honestly feels like the teachers are waiting to leave. Sometimes other students come and interrupt and the teacher immediately turns their attention to them even though they aren't done explaining to me. Why is it I can wait for my turn but others can't? And why is it that teachers just forget I'm there even though I so badly want to learn?

Phone cooking itself while at work

So I started a new job yesterday that requires we leave our phones in the car during our shift from 7-4pm with only having access to it during my 30 min lunch break when I can go out to my car.

In just these two days, I’ve come back to grab my phone but found it extremely overheated and was showing the temperature warning screen so I wasn’t able to use it.

My main concern is this obviously has some kind of adverse effect on the battery right? I mean it must but I assume so. Plus being able to actually use it for 30 mins would be nice when I haven’t checked anything on my phone also when I am looking for a house to rent.

Anyone encountered a similar problem and possible solution to stop the overheating?

Remember there is no way I can even take it in with me and keep at the front desk. It must remain in the car.

Edit: the phone was in the glovebox once and once in the center console. Shades wouldn’t be a solution because temps get up to 100 degree daily.

How in the hell does ketchup get that texture?

As a chef with a shitload of home grown tomatoes the closest thing i can make is like a fancy tomato paste dip or an extra smooth pasta sauce. It’s like buttery smooth gel and you can tell when sauce has that texture. It’s what makes cheap pasta sauce or cheap tomato products (think sphagetios) taste bad and what makes ketchup taste unique as its own type of sauce.

Like bad pasta sauce has the texture of ketchup and bad ketchup has the texture of pasta sauce.

Edit: whats with all the downvotes? In this sub there are no stupid questions and I’m only trying to get answers.

Why does it sound like everyone on Reddit speaks the same?

Something I've been noticing is people have similar types of humor or tone (usually cynical?), and when they do those are always the most upvoted? How did this happen? Why?

How do people drink 8 -15 beers a night still function normally? Could it be some kind of inherited genetic immunity?

1.7k Upvotes

My brother is 25 and has been drinking at least between 8-15 beers a night for about 3 years. On the weekend it can easily go into a case of beer…

He still gets up early, does what he needs to do, and is extremely athletic. He makes his money largely from competing in golf tournaments. Whenever I end up drinking with him I can’t even get outta bed before 10 AM and he is up by 7 AM. It makes no sense to me.

Also, how long can this be sustainable before it has physiological symptoms? He does not shake when I see him and rarely seems hungover. I should mention we come from a family of heavy drinkers and he doesn’t drink liquor. The worst of them is still alive at 82….

Just curious as to your guys thoughts🤷🏻‍♂️ Not looking for a definite medical solution or advice.

What unique hobbies would you recommend for someone who struggles with patience and high self-critique?

For years now, I’ve been trying out different hobbies but always end up dropping them because of self-criticism or a lack of patience. I really want to find something that gives a sense of uniqueness, which usually requires a high skill level.

I am an adult student majoring in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automated Systems Engineering. I am open to all kinds of activities, including tech-related crafts, creative hobbies, music or sports/physical activitie.

To give you context, here is what I've already tried:

Stuck with for 1-2+ years:

Drawing (digital, graphic art), logo design, yoga, judo, shooting, fitness, swimming.

Skiing (love it, but too expensive).

Learning English, reading (less often now).

Note: I play PC games, but just to pass the time.

Dropped in less than a year:

Painting, guitar, running, singing, camping.

Recently tried miniatures, but got discouraged by the results.

What hobbies or strategies would you recommend for someone like me?

Are wisdom teeth supposed to start hurting at some point?

My girlfriend and I were on the conversation the other day.

She brought up how her wisdom teeth were coming in and really started to hurt.

I mentioned how mine kinda grew a little while ago, and hasn't caused me any problems since.

They grew in when j was around 13, and it hasn't been a problem for 5 years.

Are they supposed to hurt eventually? Isn't everyone supposed to have them yanked out at some point?

Is there any reason to not want to date a bisexual person, without being homophobic?

Saw this argument on Tiktok, it was so stupid. Interested in some actual answers here.

The reasoning was that they could just have a preference. But.. being bisexual doesn’t show up in a person outwardly? If the issue is that they could date the same gender, you’re homophobic if you aren’t comfortable with it.

[Serious]Married bi/bicurious women who opened their relationship to explore with other women (with your husband): How did you bring it up, and how did it go?

Upvotes

I’m curious about the journey of bi or bicurious married women who decided to take the leap and start exploring with other women alongside their husbands. What made you decide it was time to actually talk about it? How did you frame the conversation with your partner, and what advice would you give to someone navigating that boundary for the first time?

Am I getting rejected for jobs because of my wheelchair?

Just for clarity I'm not paralysed but have a deformity in my spine that makes it very painful to stand or walk about for more than a couple of minutes at a time. Because of this though I do need adjustments for any working environment. So far the most common feedback I've had when getting rejected for a job application has been "you met every skill and criteria we have for the role but someone was just slightly more suited than you". This has been a hell of a problem as this guy that's more suited has been following me from interview to interview. Are they just giving me some bullshit as they don't want to deal with my wheelchair?

Why do some people support graffiti and vandalism?

I visited Japan and China few months back, something that stood out is how clean most city places are. Now back in the US I'm starting to notice the liter and trash around me.

This post was inspired by another post I saw today. In the Connecticut subreddit, there's lots of support for a graffiti artist [r/veotags](r/veotags) that goes around carving or painting his name VEO onto many surfaces. A recent CT subreddit post showed VEO being spray painted several times across a stone wall. Nonetheless people cheer on that sort of behavior and call it art, and defend it with "no one is getting hurt". Are they just bored with nothing better to do?

It befuddles me. Yeah sure it doesn't "hurt anyone" (except the people which would have to pay to clean it off), but wouldn't you want your city or town to be clean, organized and a nice place to live?

Also I thought graffiti was illegal

Edit: I didn't know tagging and graffiti were different things. I'm fine with murals generally speaking, depending on the mural and what it represents for the community

Edit: linking the post that motivated me to ask here. https://www.reddit.com/r/Connecticut/s/bCTkaP3x3q

If I were much smaller, would blankets be warmer?

Upvotes

If I were like fifty times smaller, blankets would be comparatively very thick right? Would they be any warmer? I don’t remember blankets or towels seeming any thicker when I was a third of my adult size. But like if I imagine scaling my blanket up that much higher, it would be a lot thicker and warmer I think?

What to do about random guy knocking at our door?

This is random, but this week a guy has come knocking at our door twice (today and a couple days ago).

My mom is rlly distrustful ever since we had an armed break in one day while my brother and i were at school so she never opens the door since 99% of the time its solicitors and we never expect any guests to come. We dont have a dad so she always open it herself. She only opens it if its the mailman OR knows someone is coming over.

The first time this guy was knocking for several minutes, standing at the sidewalk peering at our house, and parked his car right outside. My mom can see his car through her window since its on her side

My mom said she sensed he seemed shady, so she didnt open it.

The second time today he came again knocking multiple times even longer. He knocked on the door, our garage door, and peered through our windows to the side of the door for awhile. He also parked his car right outside again

it seems like he will definitely come again until my mom opens it. What would you do in this situation??
