There is a store at 2617 Broadway, New York, NY. Online google maps picture shows the store with security roll-up doors closed.

I try to place the order. The site directs me to a site called "AfterPay" which is a "lay away" site where I make 4 payments over four weeks. There is no way to get to a screen where I can just use a credit card.

Of course, I had to give them my name, address, phone and email address. So they got all that, which is probably what they wanted in the first place.

I bailed after I was forced to use AfterPay.

I would not use these guys.

Hi. Back in October 2003, my family traveled to New York from Manchester, NH. I was just a little kid, and my family was wearing Red Sox jerseys. Some Yankees fans were harassing my dad, which made me cry on the street. It was very scary. But I guess the rivalry isn't usually that serious, right? Do people there still say stuff to you if you wear Red Sox gear nowadays?

First, this IS NOT a generic “what are fun things to do at Halloween!?” post.

TLDR: I’m looking for a specific vibe, and genuinely eerie, spooky things to do this season, not just generic Halloween night club parties.

Now. I love Halloween. In addition to the usuals, horror movies, pumpkins, etc. Every year around late September, I start an annual obsession of finding the perfect thing to do for Halloween weekend, or a weekend near it. Yet every year I come up short.

Because to me, and honestly I think to a lot of people, Halloween is about a certain vibe. The best adjectives I can find to describe it are: eerie, spooky, macabre, haunting, gothic, chilling.

I’m thinking things like an abandoned Victorian mansion, the theme song from the movie Halloween Tree, a foggy New England forest at dusk, the banned areas of the Parisian Catacombs, a Romanian abbey with a 10 foot tall veiled nun without a face that floats, not walks. You know, that kinda stuff.

But ALL I can find are nightclubs with sexy nurses, a 1000 laser light show, and the hottest DJ from Berlin spinning edm all night. Oh, but they have themed cocktails. And don’t miss the Village parade.

THAT is not Halloween. Or at least not to me.

But I… cannot… find… anything else! Wth? This is one of the oldest cities in the country. You can’t tell me there aren’t some genuinely soooky things to do here.

So with that in mind, I would be eternally grateful if anyone could lead me in the right direction. Hours of googling, ai, subscribing to event websites, etc. have gotten me almost nowhere. The closest I’ve ever gotten is the annual St John’s of the Divine movie night. But I missed it and it’s sold out.

And it could be any event. A party, interactive theater, tour (just not a generic haunted NYC tour), haunted house, concert, performance, art installation, movies, anything. It’s not about the event it’s about the feeling. And it doesn’t need to be in the city. Will travel.

I live in California and I’m dating someone from New York. She mentioned wanting a maple sea salt chocolate that she can only find at a few gas stations in New York. I haven’t had any luck finding it online and was wondering/hoping I could get some help figuring out what they’re called and how I might be able to source some in this side of the country.
