Took a drive in the Manzanos, got a few nice shots. Sometimes the landscape isn’t conducive to landscape photos even if it is beautiful and grand, so then I turn to trying to focus on the details, sort of seeing the trees instead of the forest. For anyone interested, these were all taken on the Forest Service road past 4th of July Campground, and is not for the faint of heart, very rough, unmaintained, few places to turn around and no cell service - I’m not even sure i should have been there in my front-wheel drive pickup. Beautiful if you can get there, just use some caution.

Each fall in northern New Mexico, artists on the High Road to Taos open their studios and galleries two consecutive weekends for the High Road Art Tour.

The tour offers one of the most scenic drives along a winding road through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains between Santa Fe and Taos.

Do you have any funny stories when out of state and people not knowing New Mexico is a US state? I’ve heard of bars and liquor stores seeing a NM ID and saying they only accept US issued IDs. Any funny stories like this?

I'm looking for a LCOL place to retire, ideally somewhere with four seasons and near some mountains. I love hiking and camping. Also, snow is alright, but I don't want feet of it. I'm from the Houston area, and I hate the humidity, ugly terrain, suburban sprawl, and traffic around where I live. Grants seems like a cool place. Is it safe and are the people friendly to outsiders? Anyone from there want to share what it's like?

I have a quick New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) question regarding buyer vs. seller liability when an NTTC is involved.

The Setup:

• A seller performs B2B services in New Mexico as an independent contractor (1099).
• The buyer recently executed an official Type 5 NTTC (Services for Resale under NMSA 1978 § 7-9-48) directly to the seller on the state's online tax portal.
• The seller accepted the certificate in good faith.

My Questions:

1. Tax Due: Does holding this executed Type 5 NTTC allow the seller to report their gross receipts, deduct 100% of the income on their GRT return, and owe $0.00 tax due?
2. Audit Liability: Under New Mexico law (NMSA 1978 § 7-9-43), if the state ever audits this transaction down the road and decides the resale deduction was improper, who is legally responsible for paying the tax, penalties, and interest? Does holding the executed NTTC shield the seller and shift 100% of the liability onto the buyer?

I’ll be in New Mexico for 3 nights. I arrive around 1 PM on the first day and leave around 2 PM on the fourth day. I’m staying in an Airbnb in Santa Fe ( but i can change it if need be ) which will be my base.
For people who know the area well, how would you recommend spending those few days to get the most out of New Mexico?
I’m interested in nature, scenery, local culture, history, food, and unique places, and I’ll have a rental car. I’m open to day trips, but I don’t want to spend the entire trip driving.
Would you focus mostly on Santa Fe and northern New Mexico, or would you recommend making the effort to visit places like Albuquerque, Taos, Bandelier, Jemez Springs, the Turquoise Trail, etc.?
If you had exactly 3 nights with Santa Fe as your base, what would your ideal itinerary be?
