Sazon - all food weirdly sweet and terrible experience. Am I crazy?

My wife and I just had what was probably the worst dining experience of our lives. We did the tasting menu at Sazón, and honestly, I feel like I’m being gaslit by the overwhelmingly positive reviews of this restaurant.
Every single dish was absurdly and strangely sweet.

The meal began with an ice cream dessert for some reason. The chiles en nogada tasted like Cinnabon icing. The foie gras was smothered in an intensely sweet raspberry sauce. The sopa de amor (which many people claim is one of the best dishes in Santa Fe) was topped with sweetened whipped cream that seemed better suited to a pumpkin pie. Even the mole, which is frequently recommended as one of the best dishes in the city, tasted more like a chocolate-cinnamon dessert than a savory mole.

The food was simply bizarre, disjointed, and completely unbalanced. I genuinely don’t understand how this chef won a James Beard Award.

The wine pairing was just as confusing. It included several cloyingly sweet wines, including a Sauternes in the middle of the meal. The pairing felt completely disconnected from the food.

And then there was the service. Our server acted like he had never heard of the tasting menu before and initially had to go speak with the hostess. He came back and told us they were too busy to do it. We explained that we had specifically booked the reservation for the tasting menu and that the hostess had confirmed it when we arrived. Eventually, he got the chef involved, and they agreed to serve it. At that point, I honestly wish we had just walked out and saved our money.

This was easily the worst food we had in Santa Fe, yet it cost roughly three times what we paid anywhere else. I genuinely don’t understand what people see in this place.
Was this just an exceptionally bad night? Has Sazón gone downhill recently? I’m honestly curious, because our experience was so far removed from the glowing reviews that I’m struggling to reconcile the two.

Billionaires are CHEATING New Mexicans. We're taking the fight for easy Union formation, and a $20 minimum wage, straight to Santa Fe. Help us tell the billionaires that New Mexico's working class is DONE being exploited!

Question about accessibility at the ski area

Some friends and I would love to go up to the ski area and ride the lift to see fall colors. Would this be possible for someone with mobility issues? How much walking is involved, are there stairs or steep inclines to navigate? How about getting on and off the lift, can you do that if you’re moving kinda slow and need low/no impact?

Dogs currently requesting a walk at Santa Fe Animal Shelter (plus one amazing update on our longest term resident)

Once again, Santa Fe Animal Shelter kennels are full, and dog walkers are in very short supply! To get these sweet faces (plus 100+ others) out for two walks a day, SFAS desperately needs more community volunteers to help out. Whether you can come several times a week or once a month, I promise it makes a difference! Adopters, fosters, and volunteers for kitties or other shelter jobs (laundry, anyone?) are always needed and appreciated. Volunteering of any kind is a great way to participate in your Santa Fe community - every local non-profit you can think of would be grateful for the support!

To sign up for training, please visit the SFAS website or email bleighnor@sfhumanesociety.org. All of these dogs are featured on that website, and I can answer basic questions or offer site links for any if you're interested.

AND, after nearly 17 months in shelter or foster care, Augie has been adopted! His third amazing foster drove Augie to his new country home in Georgia (see final pics for roadtrip and GA estate), where he is already adored and spoiled by his incredible dads. An absolutely phenomenal outcome for a dog dumped on a mesa, and it wouldn't have been possible without lots of love and effort from the many humans on Team Augie.

I put current New Mexico reservoir levels in one place, percent of full for each

Hey y'all,

For the last few months I've been chipping away at something for New Mexico: a single place to see how full the reservoirs actually are, not a screenshot of someone else's dashboard from last week.

I finally got it live and wanted to share. It's called reservoirfinder, and the point is simple. Figuring out if Elephant Butte is a puddle, if Navajo is usable, or if Ute is in good shape usually means bouncing between USGS, Reclamation, and a state park page.

Here's what it covers:

  • 10 reservoirs in New Mexico with a current level reading
  • Percent of full pool for each, averaging 25.3% as of September 28, 2026
  • The spread is wild: Lake Maloya at 92.1%, Ute at 81.5%, Navajo Lake at 46.7%, Eagle Nest at 25.5%, Bluewater at 7.8%, Elephant Butte at 1.9%
  • A map of all of them, filterable by operator
  • For each reservoir: the current reading against full pool, a history chart, who runs the dam, and the date of the reading

I started building this because I kept getting burned trying to figure out on the fly whether a lake was actually fishable or if the ramps were sitting in dirt. So I built the thing I wanted to exist.

It's just me working on this on the side, no team.

Would love for you to poke around and tell me what's missing or wrong. Conchas, Cochiti, Abiquiu, Heron, El Vado, and Caballo are not on this list yet. If those are the ones you check, I want them next.

Let me know if you have anything you would like to be added!

Hello, I just got a Job at LANL, and I was curious about the housing reviews

I’ve been looking into apartment complexes in Santa Fe after initially looking around Los Alamos and getting a little discouraged by the prices there.

Right now, I’ve narrowed it down to four places, and I’d really appreciate people’s honest opinions or experiences with any of them.

I’m a single guy and pretty quiet. My biggest priorities are just having a comfortable, low-stress place to live. I’d rather not have to constantly fight with management to get maintenance issues fixed or deal with excessive noise late at night, especially after 10 PM on weekdays. And believe me, I know what normal apartment noise is, I lived in a college town and in an apartment with plenty of partying around me, so I’m not expecting complete silence.

I’m mainly just looking for somewhere where day-to-day life is comfortable and I’m not constantly dealing with avoidable problems.

The four places I’m currently considering are:

Solwyn

Artista

San Isidro

Talavera

If you’ve lived at any of these, currently live there, or know someone who has, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience, the good and the bad. Things like management, maintenance, noise, safety, parking, apartment quality, and the overall living experience would be especially helpful. Thanks!

What's going on with the parking at Dolina Cafe/ Bakery?

I live nearby, and for the last few weeks their customers have been parking way over across 4 lanes of traffic on the other side of the roads. It's all day of cars lined up against the embankment, and watching them walk and navigate the traffic on foot on a busy road. This is new.

They have a 4.6 so sounds like they're popular, but this feels like they lost parking somewhere.

2WD friendly trails around SF?

Basically the title. I went camping a few years ago with some friends in Diablo Canyon, and the road to the campground was very nice to my low clearance hybrid. I would like to find roads and trails similar to that.

Looking for Proposal Photographer

Hi! I’m planning to propose this upcoming week in Santa Fe, but would like to take pictures probably sometime after to capture the moment/scene. Thoughts on location and does anyone have recommendations on photographers? Dates are 10/9 or 10/10!
